best fans ever, I am a Chelsea fan but I have now adopted Wimbledon as one of my favourite teams, and I would love to see them get into the Premier League and give MK Dons a thrashing along the way!
Welcome back Wombles. I was at Eastlands yesterday to support you, as a season ticket holder at Manchester United, i can honestly say it was one of the most enjoyable football moments ive witnessed. Good luck in the future.
For me AFC Wimbledon are Wimbledon, in fact I think you should rename the club Wimbledon F.C. as it was originally. I am a Man Utd. fan and before all you others jump on me I must say that what happened to your club is an absolute disgrace and a travesty. I think I speak for all honest English football fans when I say that we have really missed you in the Premiership. I have a feeling the way your going you will eventually head back there, where you ultimately belong. Good luck boys, see you up!
If I am completely wrong don't go giving me shit. Tell me if there is more to the story than what I have said. Because I would like to know preferably from a wimbledon fan how they see it.
Guys, wimbledon were drifting. I'm sorry but they were. They were sharing with cp, lost plough lane & their last season was abysmal. Milton keynes technically saved Wimbledon! Otherwise they'd have gone under. I'm not tryin 2 offend ne1 cos i can't imagine how it felt 2 lose 'em & I'd hate it if it happened to Lufc But also if the fans were as committed to makin afc as trying 2 stop relocation then maybe Wimbledon would still be here. I am not trying 2 offend ne1 I'm Sayin how I view this story.
You clearly have no idea. The last season as Wimbledon was abysmal because the board had already announced the move and so the supporters had already left and decent players sold on. Before the move was announced we JUST missed out on the play-offs 2 seasons in a row, despite our chairman loaning out our players to opposition clubs and letting them play against us. We wouldn't have gone under either, crowds weren't brilliant but were enough to survive and easily flourish in a lower league.
And we protested like mad, the only thing we didn't do was resort to violence. We protested to the point where the football league said that the club couldn't be moved to MK and it wouldn't condone franchising. The chairman lied some more and got it to go to an individual commision of 3 people who voted 2-1 in favour of the move with no option of fighting it.
The move had nothing to do with "saving the club" & all to do with a music entrepreneur having a music venue built for him in the form of a stadium if he could get a club there, hence his dealings with the board at the time. He tried other clubs 1st, it's just that their boards wern't corrupt. They didn't even look at potential sites within Merton and refused to talk to the local council. Since the move, 7odd years later, they're 1 league lower than where we were, some saving of the club
Actually I can see where you're coming from . The football league said that the name and badge would stay the same, just in Milton Keynes. Another lie! But when you mentioned that most supporters had left but the rest protested like mad, that's what I'm saying. If they stayed they really could have stopped it. Or is there more to the story? Also good to hear a wombles side of the story too.
I said "the board had already announced the move and so the supporters had already left". All protested right up until the decision by the 3 man commission, however, the FA had made that the final say on the matter with no appeal from either side whatever the result. Once that decision was made we started setting up AFC Wimbledon, but it took Franchise a good year or so to move to MK because the stadium was being built. Therefore the last season was abysmal because they were already moving.
Oh I see... Well it would be good to see the turnout of the match between mk and afc Wimbledon. I can't help but think there will be a punch up or a riot. But thanks for filling me in on it. Was interesting.
For sake of any sanctity left in football, get this club back in the league and in the same division as MK Dons and smash them. You are a real football club in a time when there is so little of that left.
I'm a Cardiff fan, I've felt what Sam Hamman can do too. If you draw MK in a cup or get into their league, I want to go to that game, it'd be fantastic.
I'm a burnley fan, just saying I wish you the best of luck for next season hoping you get back in the football league, if it was up to me u'd be in League 1 at the moment and not Franchise F.C, who happen to have to be my local bloody team. Which you could guess is unlucky.
And I wish you the best of luck in next season and when you get to play MK Dons you can show them what a proper football team looks like.
And try not to laugh when you see a half built concrete ground next to asda. :P
Plough Lane? Sold by then chairman Sam Hamman to Safeway who couldn't get permission to build on it for years, before selling it on, meaning it is now a series of apartments.
Come on Lads the whole country is behind you, I was at Elland road last week watching my team stuff the fakes, All the Leeds fans were praising you, Come on you are so close,
We are three guys from Norway comming over in easter, just wonder if their are a lot of dons on the away game? We are thinking on away against Bromley.
I don't believe you are a new club either. Without the fans and the community a football club is nothing. You were fans of the old Wimbledon and you represent the community just as the old Wimbledon used to represent it so that's it for me, you are essentially the same club. So I hope you get Milton Keynes (sorry I put "Dons" in my previous comment!) one day and stuff them! As I know what the Bridge means to Chelsea I hope you return to Merton one day and get the ground you deserve!
From a Chelsea fan, I hope you prosper and reach the heights of the old Wimbledon one day and even beyond. It's right that you got the rights to old Wimbledon's honours as I believe that you are the natural heirs, and MK Dons know it. A real disgrace the way the club was torn away from you seven years ago, you had every right to re-found your club and I wish you every success. I always enjoyed the old Chelsea/Wimbledon encounters (and we share mutual legends) and I hope there will be more.
very good, short and precise, nicely summarised....does any1 know why there is a fatman scoop rapping about afc wimbledon at the end of this video, i heard that tune at the play offs semi's and forgot about it, i would love to know.....
When Phillo was a Kiss100 DJ he had FatMan Scoop in and got him to re record the song to mention us, he also did it with Lionel Ritchie to make it "I'm once, twice, three times a Womble"
i was a supporter at plough lane 4 twenty yrs,i nw liv in ireland, really heartening 2 see this video, you can repeat those g8 days, again, tnks 2 all the players, managers, etc who were at plough lane,4 such unforgetable memories, must gt over,2 london, 2 c afc,& gt a shirt,in the new season, best of luck all,kee believing, thanks.
