The U.S. didn't belong in the Vietnam war. They just didn't want t Vietnam fall into communist hands and become a communist country. They were afraid once Vietnam was a communist country others would follow, so the U.S. had to stick their heads in and join a war they didn't need to fight. Millions of lives were lost cause of a war that the U.S. didn't need to fight in.
The US made 2 mistakes with the war, the first was joining the war, the second was not fighting it right. If your in a war, you at least fight it the right way. If war was declared with the North then there could have been direct military action against the enemy and it would have lasted 3 or 4 years at most and ended in victory.

The people of Vietnam were about to hold an election in 1956, as a part of the cease fire agreement between the french and the vietnamese. The communist knew that they would win the election so the just sat back and waited for democracy to do give them legit power. The US and the newly installed emperor of south vietnam didn't accept this and called off the election and thats how the war started. So I would say that you were fighting the communist people of vietnam.

Why do people find it strange that a documentary aimed at an american audience, in english, would lead with a discussion of the effects of the war on america, including the number of american deaths? The documentary could have been about the vietnamese perspectives, but it wasn't. I fail to see how this is a problem.
For an hour piece, there's just no way to tell the story from everyone's perspective- the complex relations between the Asian countries alone would take a week to tell.
As an historical piece, it should provided insight into both camps. Instead it exclusively covers american strategic and tactical decisions. Also, the emotional interviews with former US military man offer a very one sided picture on the horrors of war. So yes, it would be difficult to explain the complex nature of the Indochina conflict, but rather then confirming Americans in their biased views on Vietnam, they ought to learn from it to prevent history from repeating.
Any country who goes to war with an advantage of technologies and equipments doesn't need to brag of pawning a larger numbers of opponent with mediocre weapons. In any case, fuck the americans and their propaganda...we can see right thru you already.

When VietNam gained Her independence from French in 1945, USA gave support to Frenchies to come back instead Ho Chi Minh forces. Frenchies were kicked out and USA directly jumped in, despite Geneva Convention. If u say u fight on behalf of Democracy, at least, u should respect other people's freedom of choice, not making war !!!

The people of Vietnam were about to hold an election in 1956, as a part of the cease fire agreement between the french and the vietnamese. The communist knew that they would win the election so the just sat back and waited for democracy to do give them legit power. The US and the newly installed emperor of south vietnam didn't accept this and called off the election and thats how the war started. So I would say that you were fighting the communist people of vietnam.

Secondly, if you hit Hanoi, you hit the entire southeast Asia, Thailand, Cambodia, etc. Thirdly, if the US would have done that, China would have become involved. Both China and the USSR had nuclear weapons. And lastly, it was a local war, it was not world-wide.,its not that simple,idiot

Why do people find it strange that a documentary aimed at an american audience, in english, would lead with a discussion of the effects of the war on america, including the number of american deaths? The documentary could have been about the vietnamese perspectives, but it wasn't. I fail to see how this is a problem.
For an hour piece, there's just no way to tell the story from everyone's perspective- the complex relations between the Asian countries alone would take a week to tell.

As an historical piece, it should provided insight into both camps. Instead it exclusively covers american strategic and tactical decisions. Also, the emotional interviews with former US military man offer a very one sided picture on the horrors of war. So yes, it would be difficult to explain the complex nature of the Indochina conflict, but rather then confirming Americans in their biased views on Vietnam, they ought to learn from it to prevent history from repeating.
