The EASIEST way would have been to first PUSH the crane, then pull it out at a different angle. If they do not know how to do their job without getting stuck, they should not be doing it AT ALL.

Gov't workers do take a lot of crap, and any citizen who says "my taxes pay your salary" is an ass. However, citizens have a right to question gov't employees. Ideally, they do it in a civilized way.

Both drivers are clearly completely incompetent and a genuine danger to the public. They should be fired immediately.
I don't believe this was a situation where lives were in imminent danger if that equipment wasn't freed that very minute. Therefore there is no excuse for such complete disregard for that SUV, be it private property or a city vehicle. A few more minutes / brain cells and they could have done the job competently.
