This man's music had quite an effect on my young 80's self...scared many...yes the vid is understandably bad but good for the time...the music, wonderful, timeless

The video is indeed absolutely crap but not as bad as the video for Ink In The Well which was truly given the lowest budget ever...Thank goodness for the amazingly fantastic visuals of Red Guitar! Yay! All is saved!!
I disagree! David Sylvian's beautiful suave melancholy voice does not sound like Howard Jones's boring superficial pop musak, none of which we can remember now anyway!
Oh, sorry, could've sworn the first comment was yours also, don't mind me. But anyway, agree I do, that Howard Jones is a pop music mistake not meant to return.
exactly i was a hugh japan fan really suprised with this album but david just got better and better i love his music and how it develops over the years
The optics and concept of the video do no tribute to the wonderful artwork of the album BRILLIANT TREES, but the song was and is a revelation. I was stunned when I heard it first buying the LP after it was first published, and I am amazed ever since, every time I listen to ist.
Cant beleave I never knew there was a video to this sngle track, of which i bought the 12" single version, btw lol. Gr8 to see this for the 1st time, cheers, from a 80's skin who always was a New Romantic @ hart lol
One of my fave songs of DS. Nice to see that a vid was made for it but I can see why he does not like it. Tries too hard to be arty and it doesn't quite work. He looks uncomfortable and awkward, like he wanted to be anywhere else but there. Still cool to see for all of us Japan/Sylvian fans out there. Thanks for posting.
Managed to miss this video at the time...not the most interesting, and not what I was expecting, as the album has a completely non-80's feel to it in my opinion...still, nice to see so much of him in such a short space of time!
it's my favorite track of his. it does remind me of "the art of parties", but i love that song, too. the video is not awful, but it is extremely low-budget. but it's nice to see david in his youth!
Interesting video but what a great track! First cut from his first solo album- i've always thought of it as his way of saying goodbye to all that (i.e. Japan). The song reminds me a little bit of "Art of Parties", all jagged and stop/start, but with a lot more soul and emotion added. Thanks for uploading, moodyb!
you can see why David hates this video. Its very pseudo-arty! still, thanks for posting these videos. They are a real treat for an old Japan-head like myself.

im not suprised he hates it, its so cliche and typical of churned out tacky 80s videos and distracts from the song
songs like the end of his friendship to mick/japan era,yes he does look like diana everyone thought so at the time too.
bad time for david I think.

A shame he didn't keep making faster, "punchy" songs like this (and what he did with Japan).

You have probably answered this question before many times but why did Sylvian hate this video?
At 1:58 when he leans on one elbow, he looks exactly like David Bowie. Cool!

Icon sums him up quite beautifully.
A blend of skill and artistry, his looks are secondary in comparison to his musical prowess.

Sylvian might not have this in his favourite videos collection, but would have to admit that he looks pretty iconic!
Great track.
