  • Princess Diana... hahahaha xd

  • i wish he recorded his kind of stuff now instead of the no tune way out crap he records now this album was brilliant i still play it now

  • @colinraycyrus68

Stuck in the past much, Dear?

  • im not suprised he hates it, its so cliche and typical of churned out tacky 80s videos and distracts from the song

songs like the end of his friendship to mick/japan era,yes he does look like diana everyone thought so at the time too.

bad time for david I think.

  • I want to stab this video in the face.

  • nice hair

  • @russellfoureyes Agreed but it reminds me of Princess Diana...

  • @rhapsodyblue56 ha ha yes it does, I wonder if she was a fan ? of his music not his hair, ha ha.

  • @russellfoureyes Yeah, I noticed it just now. Never thought that untill today... lol

I always loved this album anyway. He is incrediblly talented.

  • @russellfoureyes

Di was a fan and yes, she copied his haircut.

  • how the hell does he sing over those synchopated beats

  • i totally agree with you that david sylvian is an underated artist..i live in montreal ans unfortunately not too many people know him...

  • When at his best, Sylvian cannot be beaten.

He soars up on high with the immortals....

  • i think it's the sweater

  • A shame he didn't keep making faster, "punchy" songs like this (and what he did with Japan).

  • This man's music had quite an effect on my young 80's self...scared many...yes the vid is understandably bad but good for the time...the music, wonderful, timeless

  • Reminds me of Level42.

  • david jensen is the underrated one

  • I find his mouth very alluring..............

  • Can do without the video - but this track is one of my favorites

  • david sylvian is a big musician and your voice is inimitable, nostalgic and melting but hot, true and snug.....

  • Don't care..This music (remember sans vids?) Cooks..

  • it's to see David has continued to do as he wants with music, love his new cd

  • You have probably answered this question before many times but why did Sylvian hate this video?

At 1:58 when he leans on one elbow, he looks exactly like David Bowie. Cool!

  • never saw this when I fist heard it. music v. video music winds hands down

  • Sylvian is a genius!!

  • I think this vid is ACE actually! What's your problem people?- ants in the pants!

  • David has always been a seriously underated performer / artist.

  • i wrote something about david that ended in aaaaaaaww and the audio preview made loose it....hotness!

  • Icon sums him up quite beautifully.

A blend of skill and artistry, his looks are secondary in comparison to his musical prowess.

  • Sylvian might not have this in his favourite videos collection, but would have to admit that he looks pretty iconic!

    Great track.

  • I disagree! David Sylvian's beautiful suave melancholy voice does not sound like Howard Jones's boring superficial pop musak, none of which we can remember now anyway!

  • In this video he maybe looks like Howard Jones but definitely does not sound like him.

  • You just said he sounds like him in this video.

  • What part did you not understand?

  • Oh, sorry, could've sworn the first comment was yours also, don't mind me. But anyway, agree I do, that Howard Jones is a pop music mistake not meant to return.

  • ehm, you do remember him, and I do obviously, but nevermind. LOL

Sylvian's voice is one to remember though...

    cheers

  • @Aviva2121 ha ha, I agree with you...Howard Jones is much different compared to David Sylvian... suppose Howard Jones is more like Rick Astley

  • Is Fripp on this? Great tune, never mind the video.

  • How many of the members of Japan were playing on this song and album?

  • Thank you for posting the brilliant David Sylvian, one of my faves for nearly 25 years. Cheers.

  • he is pretty!!! isnt he... SYLViaN!!!!!!

  • No he's BEAUTIFUL! Just "pretty" is not enough...

  • who is the trumpet player

  • Jon Hassell

  • Nice ideals Nice artist= Fuckin amazing songs

  • Iam 15 and HAPPY,Great.

  • I am 45 and 30 years your senior...go figure

  • Incredible arrangement. Unforgottable emotions.

  • What a drab, lonely video to such an upbeat song. I'm not fond at all, it doesn't do the music or the handsome guy justice.

  • So pleasant voice...

  • Brilliant Trees is a brilliant album, end of story.

  • exactly i was a hugh japan fan really suprised with this album but david just got better and better i love his music and how it develops over the years

  • The optics and concept of the video do no tribute to the wonderful artwork of the album BRILLIANT TREES, but the song was and is a revelation. I was stunned when I heard it first buying the LP after it was first published, and I am amazed ever since, every time I listen to ist.

  • Thank you, thank you for saying EXACTLY how I feel about Brilliant Trees.

It was on first hearing and still is a 100% revelation. It is satisfying beyond words.

    Its emotional consistency is humbling.

I have never tired of listening to it and never could. It's burned into my soul.

    Once more, thank you .

  • cool vid the album is even better saw japan 16 times in 6 months in 1982 before they split even met david twice what an ace cool gent

  • ofcourse the song is great, and David looks great but the video is a bit Warhol esq......Im defo not a fan of his........

  • Yummy yummy yummy. What more can I say? Delicious to look at, dreamy to listen to.

  • Raised in summer days of splendour...

  • All thanks to virgin!

  • Now, did Yuka Fujii have a vote in this or not??? Way off track video wise!

  • Cant beleave I never knew there was a video to this sngle track, of which i bought the 12" single version, btw lol. Gr8 to see this for the 1st time, cheers, from a 80's skin who always was a New Romantic @ hart lol

  • One of my fave songs of DS. Nice to see that a vid was made for it but I can see why he does not like it. Tries too hard to be arty and it doesn't quite work. He looks uncomfortable and awkward, like he wanted to be anywhere else but there. Still cool to see for all of us Japan/Sylvian fans out there. Thanks for posting.

  • Managed to miss this video at the time...not the most interesting, and not what I was expecting, as the album has a completely non-80's feel to it in my opinion...still, nice to see so much of him in such a short space of time!

  • wow i've never seen this vd b4, thx!

  • Never seen this video before. I wish I hadnt really :)

Its completely out of step with the album ( and the other videos from it) He looks completely self-conscious all the way through it.

  • it's my favorite track of his. it does remind me of "the art of parties", but i love that song, too. the video is not awful, but it is extremely low-budget. but it's nice to see david in his youth!

  • Interesting video but what a great track! First cut from his first solo album- i've always thought of it as his way of saying goodbye to all that (i.e. Japan). The song reminds me a little bit of "Art of Parties", all jagged and stop/start, but with a lot more soul and emotion added. Thanks for uploading, moodyb!

  • Genius English public schoolboy funk jazz rock ... I hope he is remembered when all this dross fascist empty stuff blows over.

  • i have the extended remix to this song. it sends a chill down my spine. much better than Eighties Bowie, IMHO!

  • Yeah the music is pretty amazing.

  • thanks

  • Even Bowie would have had problems doing a better impersonation of himself!

  • Well, I really like it!:) ... and, oh lordy, what a brilliant piece of music! ... Thanks so much for sharing, moodyb!:)

  • Wow! I always wondered what this looked like. I hate to say it (no I don't), I like it. :-)

  • I think its pretty cool for the time and glad to see it, a definite treat. At least it's not like Duran Duran's "Rio" or something along those lines.

  • what´s the problem with Rio?

  • what's right about it? didn't they intentionally TRY to pattern themselves after japan, as banal as they were?

  • btw, this is in response to the "rio"/duran comment. just to be clear...

  • you can see why David hates this video. Its very pseudo-arty! still, thanks for posting these videos. They are a real treat for an old Japan-head like myself.

  • lol. I Second That Emotion!

David cringed but it's all promo really. Hey, it's just fluff and fun. What's left is a GREAT song and amazing debut!
