I am completely shocked. If he treats parrots like that, how does he mistreat the other animals in his shop? People like him make me SICK!

I don't really appreciate being called an idiot by someone who clearly hasn't thought about the subject. Companion animals rely on us to take care of them, because it was human being who domesticated them after all. Because we are able to rationalize we have a responsibility to treat them with respect. I agree what happened at VTech was horrible but 1. although these animals weren't killed, one life is no more valuable than another and 2. VTech has nothing to do with this video.

I guess it all depends on who or what you value more. To each his own. As far as animals living in misery under human care, think about it. For instance, the tropical birds in this video will live the rest of their lives (which are longer than ours) on the same perch in someone's room, most likely without any interaction with other birds. They would have lived a much healthier life in the wild. Unfortunately, so many of these animals have been domesticated and that will never happen.

well, i suppose we're talking about different cases then. i too personally think birds are not good choices as pets, however, reptiles and mammals may live longer and happier (if under proper care) under human care. domesticated dogs have a mutual relationship with humans, in which both species benefit.

Indeed. I think you make a fair assumption. There will never be a time when we see canines or felines back in the wild. They've become too domesticated and in fact benefit from being under the care (proper care, mind you) of humans. Birds and reptiles are adept to the wild however. And while reptiles may live longer in captivity, I can't say that I'd want to be stuck in an enclosure for the rest of my life. I get what you're saying though. :)
