Brilliant video. contrary to all those budding mechanics out there, It's a basic enough explanation for someone learning to drive to know what a clutch does. It doesnt have to bog them down with technical detail. You understand what a clutch does then you'll be better informed on how to control it. It's a great training aid for someone who's never sat in a car before. It's not a machanics lesson. It shows what happens when you press a clutch pedal in it's most basic and easy to understand form

Seriously? Its a simple animation to help understand how the clutch works WHILE driving, not a complex rational model. The mechanism is a lot more complex but this is the basic idea. The pressure pad is bolted to the flywheel in which holds the clutch disk inbetween. When you push on the clutch pedal the clutch disk moves away from the flywheel.

You don't have 4 clutch disks near each wheel! Thats just stupid!

The engine rotates. That clutch plate rotates and rubs against the other plate which is attached to the wheels. The wheels start to rotate until the two plates are locked together and the engine is totally driving the wheels. When you stop, you need to separate the two plates so that the engine is no longer driving the wheels. Punching the clutch pedal to the floor disconnects the two plates. Alan

The gas is irrelevant. Letting the clutch out smoothly is irrelevant.

It's not the way you lift the clutch... it's the way you stop lifting it. The two plates must rub together for a while. When the wheels are rotating, the clutch can then be left alone.
