THAT'S a really cool story. Ed Westcott was hired in 1943 to be the official photographer for the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge. He went everywhere and shot everything! He was an eyewitness to history. Without him, this story could never be told. When he was hired in 1943 he was just 21 years old. Amazing!
Maybe you could get the Oak Ridge Boys to sing a song about this and promote the idea. Joe's parents both served in WWII and he wrote a book about it.

the historical part of Oak Ridge is very interesting but your brief summary of the movie seems to have very weak storyline. as coming from japanese living in TN for 20 years, i've met many people with very interesting stories of WWII. i'm not really seeing the strong link of 9/11 & WWII Oak Ridge and family relationship & forgiveness in this video. anywho, good luck
Wow...... I'd see this movie in a minute. Hope it becomes a reality for you! I'm afraid of what America will become if we don't band together like they did back then in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. We need to take our country baack from all the ignorant people!

The government did not build anything. It should say that "American workers, working for the government, built..."
The other problem I have with this is that it speaks to "ending the war". I see it as a group of Americans coming together, in secret, to WIN the war! This was the last war we were allowed to win.
Let's say that Americans did not build anything, but that human primates, living as Americans, working for the gov, built it. Government is PEOPLE doing jobs that some of us think should be done & that the free markets don't do. Money isn't everything, and fiscal might doesn't make right. Want "small government," "no interference," a free ride on taxes & no contribution to common infrastructure ("Who will help me eat the bread?" said the Little Red Hen)? You want SOMALIA.
@Leo4aikman Wow! The White House???? Thanks for your help! Pass it on to all your friends. You may think you don't know anyone who could help, but you do know somebody..........they're just 3-8 degrees separated from you. Again, thank you!
@alliedesigns1 Thanks to everybody. Am starting to get a few views from the movie industry. There is some interest in this project building on the Internet.
I think that it is time that we learn the truth about such a historical event. I have lived in East Tennesee all of my 59 years of life and had never known the true story about Oak Ridge. I think that it is high time for our country to learn more about our country's fight for freedom. And, thank you so much for writing this script and I pray that it will be a Hollywood Blockbuster.
@eslinbre Many thanks for the kind words. You can help it get to Hollywood by sending this YouTube link to everybody you know. The more people that know this story, the better the odds become.
I love the idea of telling the Oak Ridge Story. It's well past time that all Americans had an opportunity to hear about the "Secret City". However, I would not try to tie in 9/11 to this particular story. I believe that the "Secret City" could stand alone.

@rcarp306 Many thanks for your insights. The 9/11 subplot was a risk. I have been amazed at how the story seems to connect with the viewers. I don't know what I expected, but certainly this is beyond what I dreamed.
I think the true story of Oak Ridge should be told, it's fascinating. I also think the movie idea, tying 9/11 to these people, is really stupid. They should NOT be connected. One would just take away from the other.
Thank you for starting to tell the story of Oak Ridge, the "secret city." My grandfather was one of the original scientists brought into OR. There are countless stories of personal sacrifice and personal determination to succeed in the mission. It's time the stories were told.
I moved to Oak Ridge with my family when I was in the 4th grade. My father was head of the General Accounting Office there (now called The Government Accounting Office). They were responsible for overseeing how all the money was spent on The Manhattan Project (he had started working on it in New York and was transferred to Oak Ridge). I attended Cedar Hill Elementary, Jefferson Jr High, and graduated from ORHS in '51. This brilliant presentation really brings back the memories.
@nancyxj8 One of the great gifts of posting this video has been all the folks sending me their stories about growing up in Oak Ridge. I hope, someday that the entire world will know this amazing story. Please keep sending this link to everyone you know!!!

@thienyshee I am almost speechless, or rather, I guess, typeless. This is not about me. It is about the story. It is about the 75,000 domestic soldiers who came to this secret colony in east Tennessee and ended the deadliest conflict known to mankind. Please send this YouTube link to everyone you know!!!!
Richard, wonderful idea. After working at and retiring from K-25 and Y-12 after 35 years, people on the street have little idea of the massive project. The Los Alamos end of the project has been told but the end here in East Tennessee hasn't and it is the most amazing part in it's size and scope and the short time it took to complete. Best of luck on this project. I will gladly support your efforts!
I will pass this on. I grew up in Oak RIdge, having moved there in 1948 when I was 3 years old. My father was working at K25 when the war ended. We lived in Knioxville at the time. Both of my parents continued living in Oak Ridge until their deaths in 2009 & 2010. I lived there until I went off to graduate school. I have many memories of what it was like in the early years. I hope you are able to find someone to use your screen play.
My grandmother was born in Robertsville, TN in 1894. Robertsville was taken over in 1942 by the U.S. Government when they started work on the atomic bomb (the Manhattan Project). They took land in that area, and our Gallaher family had to leave their Maplehill Farm after it had been in the family for generations.
We continually see historical war movies from other countries. It's long past time for America to tell it's story. Thank you for doing just that.
This would be a great movie! My grandmother worked there at that facility. I remember here telling some of these same stories. My grandmother was proud to be an american and proud to have taken part in ending the war. I hope this movie makes it to the big screen!!!

I would love to see this movie come to fruition, what a great history lesson along with the entertainment of the story. I had four of my family members in the project, I feel connected. I would still want to see it even if I didn't. These stories must be told, I suspect that our children have no idea the sacrifices made.
@idcrises Most of our children haven't a clue. This is not a criticism of them, but rather of us. We haven't told them these stories. I hope that Forgiveness will help correct this oversight of history.
~Teary Eyed~ In knowing what the 'story' of my hometown is, seeing this interest in showing it to the world is an awesome feeling.
Living in the shadow of such a legacy has been a large influence on my life. Knowing the sacrifices my parents made even after the war, instilled in me a greater respect for doing what must be done for the good of all.
Not to say I was allways able to live it, but I durn sure knew it!
We have family in Oak Ridge also Richard... we'll pass it on - awesome video! And we'll hope your screenplay makes it to the right hands also. We're songwriters and understand exactly what you mean about how hard it is to get your work into the right hands.
@smurrey boy howdy you are right. Getting in front of the right people is really hard. Many thanks for passing it on to others. There seems to be a massive amount of goodwill associated with this American story.
Great video. Thank you for sharing. My family moved to Roane County in 1956 so my dad could work at Oak Ridge. The book, City Behind a Fence, is a good indepth look at Oak Ridge.
Having lived in Oak Ridge as a young boy, and later working and retiring from K-25, I agree - this story needs to be told. Thank you for you efforts, and I will pass it on.
Intresting, kinda hopes this comes to Hollywood. I appreciate the invitation.
