Thanks for uploading this! I wish there were more people up for doing stuff like this these days. Now it's all whiny indie art school fags with stuck-up girlfriends who equate showing their boobs with consenting to a racial holocaust.
Bar-B-Que Movie is an 11 minute Super 8 film directed by American actor/filmmaker Alex Winter, created in 1988. Though staged, the segment presents a fairly accurate reproduction of the band's then-legendary live concerts.
This short & Hicks on the same video? What a great period. Back when Austin was a capital of true creativity, and before weird was an ad campaign. Thanks Turdy.
I've been looking for this since Impact was still easily found on VHS, before Freeked! (aka. Freekz)! Alex Winter was perfect for this project, and never did get the credit he deserved (along with partner Tom Stern). Reminds me of when Film Threat was still an underground magazine that included such non-PC extras as the Dead Celebrities Calender. I'm glad C. Gore got his due, but Alex ran into unforeseeable bad luck and eventually ended up directing a Ben 10 movie for The Cartoon Network!
@TheLegitMan93 True she was. Though when I seen her in action in 1988, she was covered in spit coming from the mosh pit, it didnt do anything for me, but she maintained a smile through to the end.
This movie ranks right up there with Night of the Creeps, The Spookies, KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park, and City of the Living Dead. Just awesome!
Man, this is the best bhs vid ever! I am so glad its in circulation again. Many trips with this video has proved that the wall honkers are still alive and well.
This is just a short film. It was taken from an anthology video featuring other underground artists called Impact Video Magazine. It is very much out of print, but I've seen a couple on Ebay over the years.
I find this to be in the greatest of tastes!! Gibby and the gang are exceptionally terrific, and the video is a gem!! Gibby is hilarious ..love his hair!!
This is my favorite video. It has my favorite song. I wasn't living in Texas at this time, but I think that they were. The song Gary floyd used to make me think they were always going to follow me out, like they knew more about my life than me. I was glad to have them come near to me on the road and the other babies too. John Paul just ditched us as the manager I guess out at the beach 1993, military post command not the marshalls. Where is my 22 dollar ticket?
You are ignorant if you think that, and it is spelled steer because like sheep it can be used as singular or plural. Texas only began having a large amount of crime after an specific hurricane hit a few years ago. Bubba and Jethroe? Try Juan and Maria, traffic does suck like hell because everyone is always pissed off because of the smog and heat, and your right about the women. :)
I first saw this in 1988 or whenever it came out. I still think it is the most Fucked up thing I ever saw 20 years later. It is still relevant and kicks ass.
"texas" is not a single quantity. there are several regions and within those regions there are good upstanding places and there are other places with completely ignorant assholes. used to be the enlightened escaped to Austin, though Austin has been corporatized/ruined. I knew a guy born/from north of Corpus Christi. He has absolutely nothing good to say about it, buckle of the Bible belt. etc.
go piss up a rope. any other sayings you want to repeat? if I recall, the "don;t mess with texas" saying is specific to the highway department and throwing trash out of your car, littering. you seem to have metasized it into a tumor between your ears. rumor is the brain is capable of more than repeating government propaganda.
No Bill Hicks is not in this short, but he is on the video that the short is from. In a different segment he rants about Ronald Reagan at the capitol? It's been awhile. This tape has Bambi vs. Godzilla on it too...
ahhhh, that makes sense now, with Alex saying "in this next segment" at the begining
is it all Alex Winter directed shorts? also, where can i procure a copy of this full video, and are there any clips of the Mr. Hicks performance (hes the fucking king) on youtube?
The biting satire of groups like the surfers should re-affirm a faith in humanity. It acknowledges that not everyone will roll over and play dead as the corporate machine turns us into asimiliated automatons. Like Voltaire, Swift, Twain, and many others before them, the Surfers have pushed people to question what they believe. The day artists stop pushing the limits of what is "acceptable" by the hegemony will be the day I lose all faith in humanity.
Looks like the letters were cut from Kraft singles and melted, and the clip was reversed. Extremely effective. You'll never get this image out of your head.
This was on a "video magazine" called Impact Video, wasn't it? The same issue had Janes Addiction and Public Enemy as I recall. Thanks for the blast from the past. I was just telling some friends about this; now I can show them :P

Oh, and Keanu Reeves should take a long, hard look at this. He'll never achieve this level of sheer awesomeness, no matter how hard he strains.
