  • Thanks for posting this classic video from "Groundhog Day". The sheet music for the boogie-woogie piano part on "Phil's Piano Solo" can be found at manymidi.com/sheetmusic.htm - a note-for-note transcription of this great piano part!

  • grandioso bill, tocala otra vez despues de 19 años eres el mejor

  • Is that Bill Hicks playing drums? :)

  • Ekusgarri ezinago pullita; betik izan tzu, eino´re batzu, eta izanen.

  • i do gymnastics and that is my floor routine song!

  • LMFAO he plays Rhapsody On A Theme of Paganini by Rachmaninoff when he sees her. Smooth

  • Does somebody know where to get notes sheet with this music? Really want to learn how to play it! :)

  • I love how he points at the guy at the very end.

  • I LOVE THAT SHIT !

  • WHAT IF HE DOESNT GO TO SLEEP AT ALL UNTILL TOMORROW

  • @jallar4 He sorta tried.. after a certain time passed he just woke up again :p (movie doesn't show how this actually happens, it just cuts of to the morning)

  • Wow! That is some great piano playing.

  • Bill Murray is very similar to a Paul McCartney´s guitarrist of the begining of the 90s :P

  • Everybody knows the rhapsody on a theme song, but whats the first one? i cant believe it would have been specifically written for this film and im pretty sure i've heard it before, any ideas?

  • @Barnsleyfc4life The song was written, performed and produced by Terry Fryer according to IMDb. under Groundhog Day. I'd like to see more of Fryer's work. He also wrote/played for Dirty Dancing.

  • If anyone is interested, I figured out by "ear" the fast part of Bill Murray's solo from this scene. You can see it/hear it here. It's pretty "notey" so I tried my best to be as accurate as possible. I can't post links apparently so just click my name to listen to it!

  • @Scarentertainmentllc Yes. I am interested actually. You did a really great job working it out/playing. I just realised that this scene is basically what motivated me to start piano - and the concept that a little bit of practice every day adds up over time. Here I am 8 years down the track and have started using your vid to work from. Would be great if you could do a tut though because it is a tricky one. I would classify it as quite New Orleans bluesey. A bit Dr John.

  • what is the 1ST song not the second one anyone know the answer?

  • Rubinstein plays Rachmaninoff 18th Variation

  • He's asked for the first song... that's the second one.

  • @MrRancidmeat the whole track's named "Terry Fryer - Medley: Phil's Piano Solo (Eighteenth Variation From Rapsodie On A Theme Of Paganini)" which includes the needed part.)

If anybody needs, I can send it by email - write me a private message)

  • Great movie, great scene except the music is a major let-down when he moves into jazz. If he had actually played the classical piece, the audience would have been on the floor with tears of passion. I still love the movie but think that it was a mistake not to play the classical version.

  • haha yeah it was, i'd have to disagree though I loved the interchange from classical to jazz it had good dynamics. Plus playing a classical piece to an audience that just danced to blues wouldnt really fit the mood, u know what I mean?

  • classical at a dance party? not likely.

  • are you serious? Cause any dance party has some type of classical mixed into it.

  • Anyone know the song he is playing?

  • Beautiful scene, good movie.

  • anyone know which scale he might play this on? the first part that goes fast.

  • the 2nd part before it gets all jazzy is Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini 18th variation

  • ok so, the first song he plays, the first 50 seconds. that is just improvised or is the second song the improvised one. and if the first song is not improvised what is it called?

  • the first part (the fast part) is strictly improvised by the musician who is actually playing it. It's not being played by Bill Murray. I spoke with the actual musician who played this number in the movie. There is no name for the piece. Strictly an improv.

  • The slow part is the theme from the movie "Somewhere in time"

  • Groso bill!!!! excelente!!

  • what is the name of the theme at the 0:54 minute?

  • Its a remix of Rachmaninov - Rhapsody on Pangini

  • xD you're waiting for 20 years for the name of the tune? the movie is made in 1993 =miscalculation.

  • if your wondering what the first part of the song is, your not gonna find it. its just a solo, just improvised or a progression of some kind.

  • he doesn't play the piano he only learned to play the slow part, the rest he's just acting

  • what's this song?

  • That's Awesome!

  • lololololol

  • What is the name of the first part of the song? (The fast one)?

    Please help...

  • I didn't know Bill Murray could play the piano so well!!!!!

    lol

  • I hope u are jokeing!

He is an actor, and this his job, playing, like real playing.

Nobody knows, what the hell of name, the first part of song!?

  • Eighteenth Variation From Rapsodie On A Theme Of Paganini

  • PLEEEESE PEOPLE can anybody tell me what is the name that theme he plays - the slow moment. I have been looking to the name of the tune for more than 20 years. Please HELP, tell me how it is called so I could find the score finally. Thanks

  • It hasn't been 20 years yet, lol.

But it's Eighteenth Variation From Rapsodie On A Theme Of Paganini

  • You mean the film? I don't know when it came out, I was around 15-16, so now 36, 20 years isn't it?

  • It came out in 1993. It's only been 17 years. You must've been a bit older than you think.

  • Well, I was 19 then. I seemed like I was 15. I had a long happy childhood you see so I cannot remember such little detail like age.

  • best song ever

  • I very much love this movie haha it's one of my favorites...Bill Murray + Holiday film = Smiles!!! :D
