Some may look cartoonish, but some of them are probably, like the predators that kill prey by shooting them with high-frequency soundwaves, or using a transparent skin area to concentrate light on prey to fry them, not only feeding them, but removing any parasites hiding in the raw meat.

My guess is that creatures on Mars would be taller and light bodies to protect themselves from the sun; it would also only appear in zones where the temperature remains more or less the same.
