who teaches algebra in college? im in friggen 8th grade, not even in the advanced math course, tryin to get in and i learned this already. i mean i get that some people dont know math as an adult but you dont have to go to friggen college for algebra.
@puppychuu lolol I know it was odd right? Just a shot in the dark. It's all good.
This professor moves fast right? Have you made it past lesson 5 or 6 yet... or do you even intend to? I'm sure it'll get more challenging for you if you hang in there. Then again, what do I know?
I'm 40. Just turned it last week. I too remember a LOT of this shit.. And I learned it back in the 80's... hahaha I never made it past Algebra 2 though, so I'm sure it'll get much tougher... for me, anyway. =) Peace.
@92Payka i see what you're saying, and it makes a good case, but so does the latter. think about it...how could: (-5) * (-5) = 25 .....and..... (-5) + (-5) = -10? multiplication is just a shorter way of performing addition. so if a negative plus negative is still negative, then it should remain a negative when multiplied with one.
@92Payka you're saying "wow" because you're either brainwashed, or can't think for yourself. in general, the "negative times negative" rule could pretty much go either way. it just took one douchebag to say "let's just make the tougher of the two to comprehend, the standard".
that negative times a negative rule is horse shit. so if i lose a bet with someone, i can just set up a "double or nothing", and lose on purpose to get my money back? lol....yea...ok
@TheoryIsSpeculation I don't know what course you have taken or what you do.But trust me, Exponents & logarithms matter a LOT in every field. So if you don't have time or motivation for the whole series...here's what I will suggest for you -"Lectures-3,28,29,30,31".That will cover all of exponentiation & logarithms and it will take a week AT MOST.If you got more questions feel free to ask.(I got immense help from those who finished before me & would be glad to help others
@omniscientken It's Ok to be frank about your confusion.Let me try to explain (It's simple you see)
--In the decimal form of rational numbers, after the decimal point either a sequence of digits get repeated (.25252525.....), or after a particular sequence of digits ,another digit starts repeating (.1652222222.....).
--In 1/2 as you have asked, the repeating digit is "0" (.500000..)
---But in irrational numbers there is no repeating pattern, the digits are just random.Eg."Pi"

@KRSchannel e.g. is just an abbreviation for a latin term meaning exempli gratia which means "for example". It seems circuitous to write an abbreviation for a latin phrase when you can just shorten the english word and mean the same thing.
Could anyone tell me what textbook was used for this class or what book could be used to study this material along with the lectures? Richard does a terrific job of explaining the material. Thanks, costantr
I really wish my teacher would be so good as you :) I cant speack english well because i am from georgia but, i understood everything what you explained : )
Prof: Richard Delaware, you are the type of person the world need. Your gift is golden, and priceless because you are teaching thousands people every minute. This society should reward teachers, and professors better than politicians & CEOs. God will reward your work some way.
@HarrisonGoblin18 I know what you mean, i did this in middle school in Indiana/oklahoma. i was trying to relearn for before i started college.( been outa highchool for a while) things are harder now than they where in the 90's, which i think these videos where from the 90's. lol.
Heres the funny thing, I went to two school districts growing up, Nashville and Mississippi, in MS they dont teach you this stuff until you get into the advanced math your senior year of High school, they teach it in 7th grade in Tennessee.
@Faelsun I thought i did ok in math in school, but i went to take a college placement test and was surprise at how much more complicated it was. i graduated in 06. things change 4 years i guess. I slept allot since then too.
@NFLmanic - is that why your biggest oil corporation was too stupid to bother doing a simple test that's been used for decades and now we've got the biggest ecological disaster in history on our hands?
Good stuff; just getting started on these, but these are really nice - clear instruction, repeated examples and a sprinkling of dry math humor every now and then. These are presented better than my "real" class to begin with, and can be reviewed until I get it.

"As a rule of thumb, one can say that 0^0 = 1 , but 0.0^(0.0) is undefined, meaning that when approaching from a different direction there is no clearly predetermined value to assign to 0.0^(0.0) ; but Kahan has argued that 0.0^(0.0) should be 1, because if f(x), g(x) --> 0 as x approaches some limit, and f(x) and g(x) are analytic functions, then f(x)^g(x) --> 1."

@powerhousephg That would be a negative plus a negative.

@powerhousephg "Double or nothing" works. If you lost once, that's -$10. If you lose the double or nothing, then you have 2 x -$10 = -$20.

so what does he mean by rational being repeating decimals and the irrational being non repeating decimals?
I'm still a bit confused because isn't 1/2 non repeating (well the 0s are repeating) does he mean the non 0 ones are irrational?
