yourself as a lead tender then you will start to be put in the water more to get the dives that the company requires for you to be eligible to break out after that you need to hope that they company is in position to break out tenders. then you have to hope that your name is on that break out list because they will only break out tenders that they can afford to loose off the deck so make sure that you train somebody to take your place.
I have been in the industry for over 4 yrs and to tell you the truth find the cheapest school because your first couple of yrs you're going to be tending doing very little diving don't believe what they tell you in school you're going to be a tender working the deck thats what you need to learn to get in the water so past the basics of putting on the hat and using it (blowing bubbles) you need to become familiar with running the deck. They don't teach enough of that in school. Once you prove yo
I'm interested in going to commercial diving academy.......Is that the best school to go to? What is the best overall certificate to get? For diving in the gulf or abroad
yea true Scbuababe20 but there are good wreck discovery/dive accident videos and stories on the net too. My favourite site is the myscubastory site. They have tonnes of real life dive stories and videos. Type myscubastory into google and its the first result
Well jason, I agree that the yokohama recovery was pretty stupid, but not all gulf companies are that way. It just depends on who you work for. Going to dive school in the UK or s africa is great for a non US citizen, but there's no way it's worth it for an american. The Jones act pretty much prevents us from working outside the country, so any certification beyond the IMCA one offered in Seattle just aint worth it.
i used to want to dive in the gulf of mexico but lookin at this video it looks a bit cowboy, diving set up looks shit and your recovery of a yoko fender is terrible, think ill stay in the northsea, also have only the divers ever heard of boilersuits
yea well with 15ft seas cant very well use the crane to recover it so the tugger worked out as well as we could hope for it was either that or loose it and seeing as how that wasnt an option we did what we needed to lol and i am an american diver working in america lol
In the gulf it dont matter as long as you have your adc card we are going to train you differently than dive school. school is just to teach you diving fundamentals and some basics when you are in the industry its way different.
Its what ever man 80% of the people who graduate from dive school and go to work in the gulf drag up and go home within two years 50% dont even make it 6 months past dive school. I dont care where you go to school the real test is staying in the industry and dive school wont prepare you for that.
@TimQuerry: Roger that & Commercial Diving Academy is where I'm at.They have really good certifications. There are good schools & bad schools, you can have a guy graduate from a lesser quality school and still out dive a bad diver from a higher up school. And I am pretty sure I am getting a better education than most,, especially than people in South Africa..Pay attention in school, bring a good attitude and hard work ethic.and dont act like a dick and try to bash other people.(talking to jason& you
ok, i just graduated dive school and im getting ready to go to the gulf. I wan to apply with Cal Dive Whats a good company to work for and what can I expect. I am a DMT and I can't make up my mind. Should I stay here and work as a hyperbaric tech and EMT, or go to the GOM ? tell me what you think
