  • Stockard Channing was more than *kinda* hot!

  • Haha...she certainly gobbled that sandwich down mighty quickly! I reckon she was quite hungry!

  • Why is Stockard wearing a wok on her head? :-)

  • That always blew my mind when I was young.

  • AmericanSoapBox, you simply do not get it. One, as an educator of 14 years, children DO learn from these "shorts". Two, the one thing you should have learned from SS is manners. Your commments are invalid and untrue. Do some research before you are critical of subjects in which you are inept. Capital I, anyone?

  • @botz1967 Personally, I felt I learned and remembered a lot more by watching Sesame Street than I did in actual Kindergarten, not to mention morals and manners.

  • dont eat so fast you gonna have a indigestion

  • I remember watching these, but I never learned a damn thing from them. It was just audio visual and entertainment. Kids don't learn from PASSIVE learning. They never will.

  • Didn't this lady play the lead Pink Lady in Grease 1 movie? I think the character's name was Rizzo. Anyways... they look alike

  • @asset68 yes, that was her

  • LOL!

"A ketchup 3!" *Stockard steals it*

"A mustard 3!" *Stockard steas it*

"A nice mayonnaise 3!" *Stockard steals it*

This was very cute, thanks for posting! :-)

Also PiLfan, I love your description of the video "...and a very young (and kinda hot, when she's not stuffing sandwiches down her pie hole, Stockard Channing)" LOL!! :-P

  • Wow, Stockard Channing is quite pretty in this skit of the Mad Painter and pretty fat. Is this how she got her start in show business?

  • Well, these Mad Painter skits were going on from the years 1969-1974 and Stockard Channing started appearing in shows and movies in the year 1969. (This skit was probably the first time she is seen on television).

  • I see. Did you know Stockard Channing played Adolf Hitler's mother Klara in the 2003 CBS mini-series HITLER: THE RISE OF EVIL?

  • Yes I did.

  • That was a rather odd role for Channing to play, the mother of the greatest most evil mass-murderer in history; a far cry from her role in the 1978 hit movie GREASE. Did you know in 2005 Channing co-starred with Henry Winkler in a short lived sitcom on CBS? What was the name of it?

  • I think the name was called "Out Of Practice" with Henry Winkler.

  • Do what it was about?

  • I don't know. I just looked up on the internet which movies Stockard Channing was in, in the year 2005 with Henry Winkler and I found "Out Of Practice" but, I don't know what it was about.

  • Okay, but thanks anyway.

  • @67nairb

It's about a family of doctors. Stockard Channing and Henry Winkler are the hilarious divorced parents of the main character. It's all uploaded on here somewhere, well worth the time to watch it.

  • OMG It's STOCKARD CHANNING!! Wholly Shmoks! She was WICKED young! Like, 25-30 throughout her career on this show! WOW! :)

  • I think thats the lady in Grease

  • she ate it all in about 3 seconds! 3-3-3-3-3-3-3

  • "suck hole"

  • Paul Benedict

    Sunrise September 17th 1938

    Sunset December 1st 2008

    May he R.I.P

  • LOL!! Thats a very young Stockard Channing there..........same facial expression though!

  • anyone remember a guy wearing a safri hat chasing something, maybe a gorilla, the song kind of sounded like " shakoo in the water...shakoo" please i need to know this

  • i think he had a big fly net

  • There was a guy in a safari hat in "House of Frightenstein".

  • This is Rizzo - I used to love that she was from Grease helping us all out with the number 3!

  • I can't believe it! it IS Stockard Channing!

  • What happened to #2? Can't find it...

  • Number 2 is on the sesame street website

    sesamestreet (dot) org.

Just go to the video section and do a search for "painter"

  • Thanks, classicphile! Found it.

  • "Three, thee, thee, thee"...the funniest part of the sketch is what the painter says at the end. Otherwise, I'd skip this one.

  • She's a bit chubby from all those "3" sammiches.

  • R.I.P. Paul Benedict u will be missed dude,

  • RIP?Seriously? When did he pass away?

  • Paul Benedict passed away on December 1, 2008.

The only thing I wonder is what he passed away from. I know that he was 70 years old when he passed away and people found him in his house dead. I know that he suffered from a disease called acromegaly but, I'm not sure whether acromegaly kills people or not.

  • In his honor I'm goning to paint a 70 in Ketchup, Mustard, and Mayo.

  • Hey - Thrrrrreeeeeeee ! ! ! This was always my favorite live charactor on seseme street. I will never forget his friendly ways , his tolorance of his victims , ( and , of course their tolerance of him . . . ) and his beloved soothing voice . We're gonna miss you , Brother ! !

  • This clip always made me hungry as a kid!

  • Man, it's weird how I remember these so well from like 30 years ago. This guy used to make me laugh my ass off.

  • just like George Jefferson, he went to that penthouse in the sky... so sad...

    Hey!! That's Stockard Channing!!

  • RIP Paul Benedict. :(

  • @ap2152002 Condolences 2 Mr. Benedict.

  • R.I.P. Paul Benedict. I heard the sad news that he died of a heart attack at the age of 70. Whether as Mr. Bentley or the Mad Painter, he portrayed a great character.

  • I have been dying to see this! I think the last time was when I was about 6. How fun.

  • that's literally just about the best thing i've ever seen in my life. marry me, stockard.

  • that is mr. bentley from the jeffersons everybody.

  • He was also the hotel desk clerk in This Is Spinal Tap, who informs the band's entourage has been given 2 rooms on the tenth floor (instead ten rooms on the second floor), if I recall correctly.

  • it was one suite on the seventh floor instead of seven suites on the first floor :)

  • thats bently from the jeffersons!

  • and he's getting annoyed because she's eating his works of art. it's HER food. (and bobdang can she pack it away!)

  • After eating all those 3s, she's definitely going to need to take a #2!

  • hee hee! clever!

  • Ketchup on white, mustard on rye, and mayo on wheat.

  • Stop it......... this is just too familiar.....and it's been over 30 years !!!!

  • damn stockard channing get eat a sandwich like no other! i ♥ stockard :)

  • 333333333!

  • LOL I remember this.

  • Does anyone have #5

  • DANG!!! Dat girl can eat!! QWait! Isnt that Stockard Channing. Hahahah! I love her

  • I hope she has Pepto-Bismal after that.

  • He's wearing Converse All-Stars! ROCK!!!

  • That was a funny descriptio :)

  • Attagirl, Stockard! Eat! Don't be like those skeletal "Size 0" girls who live on lettuce and Diet Coke.

  • This was before my time of Sesame Street memories but that was brilliant! And random...And just so...heart warming! lolol Thank you!

  • i laughed out loud at your description of stockard channing in your "about this video" section!

  • Thats why i used to love ketchup sandwiches!!!!!! ahhaaaaaa!!!!!!! thats one mystery of the universe solved!

  • I thought that it would've been nice if both the painter and Count Von Count could've done a skit together since they both love numbers a lot.

  • I remember this but I had no clue that it was Stockard Channing & Mr. Bently!

  • Stockard Channing!

Holy crap, I love her. xD

  • I remember this from my childhood, so sweet this, he fancied her (I think heh) cause he kept painting 3's for her and she'd eat the lot LOL. Didn't know "The Jeffersons" I'm afraid cause it was'nt shown in England.

  • That's Stockard Channing from Grease and Paul Benedict from The Jeffersons & A Mighty Wind!

    I love these two!

  • didn't that girl grow up to be on the west wing lol

  • I love how he slaps her hand at 1:16 - can't show that type of thing on a children's show nowadays!

  • Weird!! I remember this sketch!! Well, I only actually remember the ketchup-painted "3" on a piece of white bread, I seem to have suppressed crazy greedy Stockard Channing...

  • I was SO four and knew that was Rizzo. AND I knew it was the guy from the Jeffersons.

  • This was my fave in the "painter" series because he used condiments to paint on bread. I thought that was awesome. Stockard Channing! Who knew?

  • I think this guy seemed rather ghostly to me as a kid. I think that's what gave me nightmares.

  • Very nice to see these again

That painter is a cult hero to kids of the 70s like me.

  • And hot!

  • Comment removed

  • Me! I still have nightmares! LOL! =) Much less scary now that I'm 26, though. I'm glad to read someone else got scared by these, though!

  • Well, frankly, I really think I personally was under the impression that he was a ghost, who followed this poor lady around, and the bald-headed guy. The whole sitch kind of just creeped me out. But then, I was only four. LOL

  • How can she eat that fast? greased lightining?

  • Burp!

  • aw man i forgot about this guy!! haven't seen this in 25 years. thanks for the post!

  • And little did I know I would fall right in love with him on a classic TV sitcom!

  • hahah i remember this clip when I was a kid. so this is the reason why Stockard Channing looked so familiar several years after. cool!

  • Its great to see this one again. But I could not find any vids about the girl with grandma harvesting corn carrots and stuff, then cooking lunch with them. hope somebody could post that video.

  • o...fuckin...k !

  • This one and the one with the cake were my favorites as a kid. I must have been obsessed with food or something. I don't think I knew what the brown bread was either, and I always thought that sandwich must have tasted horrible!

  • Ok, this owns.

    The music also owns.

  • OMG!! KA - LASS -SIC!

  • I still remember all of the Number Painter segments! The number 8 is still my favorite. I didn't know Paul Benedict (aka Mr. Bently on The Jeffersons) played the part of the Number Painter. I wonder what he's doing now?

  • i Hope She was hungry! sheesh!!!

  • She didn't even seem to notice him until he tapped her and held up a ketchup 3!

  • That might be true but, I wonder if she saw him paint the mayonnaise 3 because his paint brush was still on the slice of bread as she was reaching her hand out to take the slice of bread that he painted the mayonnaise 3 on.

  • I always enjoy watching the number painter scenes and i like the music as well,i did not know it was Paul Benedict who played the role i only know him watching on the jeffersons.

And plus what a huge sandwich she's got one heck of an appetite.

  • haha thats great! I dressed up like him for halloween back in the mid 90's! Only a precious few at the party knew who I was supposed to be,but those few who did laughed their **ses off! haha!

  • What about showing "2" with the sailboat, "6" with the baker's cake, and "5" with that big gorilla? I've seen the rest of the Painter's antics already.

  • Is he wearing a different shirt when they do a close-up? The stripes look evenly spaced and then on the close-ups the black stripes look much wider than the white portions.

  • How many wish they could have seen the preceding pinball segment for the number 3?

  • Man, it's great to see The Number Painter again. I knew for years that Paul Benedict was The NP but I was surprised to learn that the talented Stockard Channing was the woman in these shorts. She certainly got better with age, though.

  • Wow, Stockard Channing you're right! I thought she looked familiar even when I watched these skits in the 80's as teenager.

  • crap I must be old... I still remember this one... one of the best skits

  • The number 3 sketch. One of my favorites, his facial expressions are a riot..Not totally on topic here but I see they've removed most of the other painter sketches. This site has to be the most hypocritical one out there yet. They claim you can see almost anything on here yet they are always removing things....ridiculous..I always would come here to see all the painter sketches..now they're disappearing...whats the point of having this type of site.

  • Yeah, this is quite a hoot!

  • man shes younger here than in Grease huh

  • The painter's facial expressions were so great. I used to laugh myself silly at the end of the sketch when he put the "3" in his mouth.

  • I liked the tracking thing in the begining on your VCR. I remember having to do that manually every time.

  • bentley was cute

  • Is that Ron Jeremy? LOL

  • Oh man, Stockard Channing? I remember this video used to make me hungry a lot as a kid. I would try to make numbers on my toast with ketchup and it never really turned out legible, LOL!

  • I haven't thought about these segments in years!

  • LOL my bro used to make silly faces like the Painter is making to make me laugh :P

  • I thought Ms. Channing was pretty, even though she was pigging out. The music was sadly beautiful as well..

  • i was fascinated by how the painter drew the number 3 on the bread! weird huh?

  • nice Chucks. and that weird funnel-like hat always reminded me of those things you put around a dog's neck to keep it from biting. the dog being Stockard Channing in this case.

  • Doesn anyone have that Everybody Sleeps and Everybody Eats ditty? Also, the "I love Being a Pig" ? I'd love to see those!

  • Hilarious! Did you ever notice that he's annoyed that she's taking her own food? Nobody invited him to paint on this lady's food! I love when he mutters "Three three three..."

  • That's true that, it wasn't polite that he invited himself to this lady's picnic but, he doesn't care what he invites himself too and what he paints a number on, even if it's something expensive or something that's against the law if someone puts graffiti on it.

  • I vaguely remember this too! How cool is that...Stoxkard Channing and Mr. Bentley from the Jeffersons! I love how he gets more and more mildly annoyed in this video, and the look on his face when she scarfs down the sandwich is hilarious!

  • Wow..... haven't seen this in decades! Thanks for sharing this!

  • I remember this one! I never knew who they were though...I do remember her eating that sandwich like a maniac and thinking it was cool to paint numbers on my food!

  • These were funn..the 8 and the swimming pool/bald guy was the best. Also the number 9 on the street that gets washed away is cool.

  • Anybody seen the one with the number 8 and the swimming pool? It's hilarious. He paints a bald man's head. I also want to see the one with the number 2 and the sailboat. Rare as Disco.

  • That's some scary stuff. Call a priest!

  • holy shit! i never knew that was stockard channing. i did know that was mr. bentley, though.

  • Always thought this was a weird one, but I always liked it. I can still remember a bit of the music, too, especially early on in the skit.

  • hahaha

  • When I was a kid I had never saw brown bread before. So I didn't know what it was.

  • when i was a kid I thought it was scary the way she ate the sandwiches. lol! :D
