While I love OPF2 it is indeed a poor mans version of Arma. The only thing I wish for is that they would make Arma available on consoles (hard to play that game on low).
This game is a less exciting version of COD4 played on veteran. Despite a handful of realistic qualities, most of what takes place in this game is absurd and has far more in common with Call of Duty than any real life military action. I suspect much of the combined arms style combat realism that has been a trademark of the series was cut out to appease the modern shooter fans who expect dramatic expect high stakes special forces missions against superior numbers to be the norm.
I've been following Bohemia interactive and Codemasters since they developed and released the original Operation Flashpoint. I played that game into the ground since it was released (Getting my hands on a brittish copy way before it was in north america (3 extra months I think it was.)), I enjoy every combat simulator either company has touched since, except OFP:RR, it looks like poo :(
Arma 2 maybe better but ofp 2 has more of a easier and more welcoming gameplay which you can get into quickly. Now you throw crap at me most as you want but that is my opinion.
i like the fact that the game was very realistic feeling while hating it at the same time. i dont like games to be frustrating and thats what this game was for me. i respect the authentic feel of it and i totally get why people would like it. its just not for me. definitely liked the effort that went into the sondtrack too. great moody music in games is a thing i have always really liked it.

For example If I play a war game I would rather play something with shitty graphics that gets the tactics and the distances correct, than a hollywood style visual effects masterpiece that leaves me wondering why everything is so close together as in COD.
i think i would have played it more if i didnt find it to be so hard. to me games should be fun, not frustratingly hard. ill eventually try red river one day and see if i can get into that one. i know what you mean though. thats how i am with movies, i am tired of the same old action movies and want something with a little more to it.

Virtual Battlespace 2 is used by a few militaries. It is very realistic and can be used to train soldiers or emergency service personnel what to do in different scenarios.
This music is very conceptual. It is divided into two parts, the first part is about the rising of Asian countries: China, India, Muslim world and others. The second part is about north Atlantic countries.
The composition of this is amazing, too bad most games don't have such good works put into them.. Now CodeMasters just needs to work on their AIs and terrain detail.

@Flylake War is amazing... in both a good way and a bad way... when my uncle came back from Afghanistan we talked for hours about how under fire, you do the most amazing things, bullets fly inches from you, yet when it comes down to it, even the lowest coward has it in them to do something heroic... @Flylake The Medal of Honor Series is the same thing, its not about killing and being the hero; its about the soldier's story, which is what makes it stand out. Other then the most recent MOH, they are truly about the soldiers lives in battle.

@GhostRelimit ARMA is much more realistic, but this game isn't bad. It still has realistic elements. Plus, anybody who cannot afford a PC can't play ARMA because it is so difficult to run.

Yes, actually. There was a huge drop in lobbies about half a year ago, but since a few weeks, you can get in a game in about 10 minutes. Provided you play during UK/US peak times, of course.

Only buy it if you're looking for a simulation-type game. Personally I love it because I know a little bit about basic military tactics but be ready for a challenge if the only other Modern War game you've played is Call of Duty.

I had one time, i spawned on the roof of a building aas a medic (yes ON THE ROOF) and a helo was making its run, and i shot the pilot! Then his helo came and crashed into me.
this takes me right back to a rainy night at 1AM when i finally stopped playing at my bro in laws place. I remember losing the video game trance and getting a chill all over me because it was cold and i didn't realize it. This music was playing through the TV, which was the only light source in the room, at the moment that happened. I was so relaxed.
@RenegadeOfSociety OF 1 is a simulator, Dragon Rising is an arcade with some points of realism, i think they cant even be compared :D, personal tastes will make the difference on which one is better, anyways Armed Assault 1 & 2 are closer to the original idea of Operation Flashpoint, i think they are the trully successor.
This version is a bit interesting/funny to me. You hear all that radio chatter in the background while the serene, ethnic music plays. It sounds a bit ironic.
I own this game. My personal opinion on a scale of 1 to 10 would be an 9. This game is great, you are not going to find any other console game with the span OFDR has. The maps are extremely realistic, along with the weaponry, and vehicles. This is the most realistic game your gonna find on any console. There were however some let downs. The tether on cooperative play was really too small, and the online maps were too laggy. If they can aid these too problems, the game would be perfect. 9/10.
This game generally did suck in many ways. However it had some really impressive features and idea's. The bullet drop and general fire fights were pretty grizzly, the fact through pure bad luck you could instantly get fragged and its gameup is great. The scale of the island, patrols, choppers and general activity kicks ass. It just felt like it was missing something important, the movement felt awful, and the multiplayer was a baaaad joke. Still, hats off for a good attempt!
This game is ass but they had some pretty interesting ideas. I liked how you had to heal when you're shot or you bleed out, or healing team mates and medics are all pretty cool. But, otherwise the rest is sub standard. But I did love the mission "United We Stand", were you hold the beach because usually it's down to you and a team mate and a couple mags to hold off a small army and the pure epic scale wowed me.

@Mishapetrenko make sure u have the M16 and put it on 1 bullet fire and take your time to shoot makeing each shoot count. When you appoarch the fuel deport at the front of it in with a few trees there should be a observation hut near the entrance. Place your firesquad in there and pick off targets behind the hut. Most of the Chinese are at the front. Once youve cleared the front pick off targets in the fuel deport. Then turn right arond the fuel deport and take out the targets.

This game is a billion times better than MW2. Too many ppl play Mw2 and claim they're all good and stuff but it takes absolutely no skill at all to kill someone in Mw2. OFP takes strategy and it involves thinking instead of running and gunning like its Star Wars.
I played OFP. It was good, but the AI sucked, I got stuck in seocnd mission cause everytime I loaded on an autosave there was a chopper on me and my squad mate's head killing us like it was spawn camping, the 2nd mission was all about stealth and I didnt see any stealth whatsoever after I planted the bomb the other team were acting as bait then we were compromised then it auto saves right there and mountains of waves of enemies comes at us and my team mate AI is so dumb..i jus got sick of it
then you must know that Bohemia Interactive have done ArmA 1 and ArmA 2, what runs on the same (but modified) engine as old Operation Flashpoint :) ... I hoped OFP2 from Codemasters will be same as OFP, or atleast close to it.. too bad its so arcadish :)) (bought it couple of days ago in Steam weekend deal for 75% off :)) and I am glad I bought it now, not for full price at release :))

@RenegadeOfSociety OF 1 is a simulator, Dragon Rising is an arcade with some points of realism, i think they cant even be compared :D, personal tastes will make the difference on which one is better, anyways Armed Assault 1 & 2 are closer to the original idea of Operation Flashpoint, i think they are the trully successor.

Many times I turned back like wierd feeling of an enemy .. just to turn too see the enemy while in splitt second the screen turned black.

This version is a bit interesting/funny to me. You hear all that radio chatter in the background while the serene, ethnic music plays. It sounds a bit ironic.

I own this game. My personal opinion on a scale of 1 to 10 would be an 9. This game is great, you are not going to find any other console game with the span OFDR has. The maps are extremely realistic, along with the weaponry, and vehicles. This is the most realistic game your gonna find on any console. There were however some let downs. The tether on cooperative play was really too small, and the online maps were too laggy. If they can aid these too problems, the game would be perfect. 9/10.

This game generally did suck in many ways. However it had some really impressive features and idea's. The bullet drop and general fire fights were pretty grizzly, the fact through pure bad luck you could instantly get fragged and its gameup is great. The scale of the island, patrols, choppers and general activity kicks ass. It just felt like it was missing something important, the movement felt awful, and the multiplayer was a baaaad joke. Still, hats off for a good attempt!

This game is ass but they had some pretty interesting ideas. I liked how you had to heal when you're shot or you bleed out, or healing team mates and medics are all pretty cool. But, otherwise the rest is sub standard. But I did love the mission "United We Stand", were you hold the beach because usually it's down to you and a team mate and a couple mags to hold off a small army and the pure epic scale wowed me.

im stuck in mission 7 bleeding edge at scene where u need to capture fuel depot im playing on experienced any advices how to kill chinese qucikly and secure depot before chienese act and kill marines :)

@Mishapetrenko make sure u have the M16 and put it on 1 bullet fire and take your time to shoot makeing each shoot count. When you appoarch the fuel deport at the front of it in with a few trees there should be a observation hut near the entrance. Place your firesquad in there and pick off targets behind the hut. Most of the Chinese are at the front. Once youve cleared the front pick off targets in the fuel deport. Then turn right arond the fuel deport and take out the targets.

This game is a billion times better than MW2. Too many ppl play Mw2 and claim they're all good and stuff but it takes absolutely no skill at all to kill someone in Mw2. OFP takes strategy and it involves thinking instead of running and gunning like its Star Wars.

I played OFP. It was good, but the AI sucked, I got stuck in seocnd mission cause everytime I loaded on an autosave there was a chopper on me and my squad mate's head killing us like it was spawn camping, the 2nd mission was all about stealth and I didnt see any stealth whatsoever after I planted the bomb the other team were acting as bait then we were compromised then it auto saves right there and mountains of waves of enemies comes at us and my team mate AI is so dumb..i jus got sick of it

I haven't played MP yet, but Campaign is far easier than in OFP1 (I play on Hardcore).
I remember I was proud as fuck, when I saw I killed a Specnaz in OFP1.
In Dragon Rising you exterminate everyone like there's no tommorow.

then you must know that Bohemia Interactive have done ArmA 1 and ArmA 2, what runs on the same (but modified) engine as old Operation Flashpoint :) ... I hoped OFP2 from Codemasters will be same as OFP, or atleast close to it.. too bad its so arcadish :)) (bought it couple of days ago in Steam weekend deal for 75% off :)) and I am glad I bought it now, not for full price at release :))

one of the best battle simulations by far totaly crushed graw the only thing this game needs is the option to change fire rate like simi .full auto.and3 shot bursts and be able to hug the wall
