I see now where the Clarks get that Oh....... Oh.... all the time when they sing. They get that from Nessa. It would be a lie to say that Clarks were not influenced a little bit by Vanessa Bell Armstrong. I hear so much Nessa in all their voices, vice versa too. Detroit gospel singers all use each other styles.

This is the Queen of runs before there was a Kim Burrell. She was doing this in like the 80s. Some people are sleep on Vanessa but she is COLD!!!!!..she does things with her voice that are out of this world.
Yes, I totaly agree and to be honest I think Kim was heavily influenced by Nessa with that grit style along with Dorinda Clark Cole. Only Nessa, and Dorinda was singing raspy with that grit like that!
I always said anything Kim Burrell can do Nessa already did and some. There is no run and riff Kim Burrell Nessa can not do, and she probably can do it better! You know how long she been singing. But Burrell is Bad though. She is the Nessa of this generation, but Nessa and Rinda is the originals of that raspy, fast complex run style.
I would even come as far as to say the Clarks are definitely influenced by Nessa in some ways, vice versa. Nessa is older and been singing longer. She was doing runs like that way before anybody else as a soloist, and then the Clarks. Detroit singers all influence and learn from one another. I do not down cast a person who speaks of the Gospel Of Jesus Christ... Pastor Sandra Crouch has written great songs that have been a blessing to many songs such as "Yes Lord" " "glorify the Lord" Mangnify the Lord and coutless others.....the twin to Andrae Crouch.....they both are gospel ledgens.

No, Shirley is NOT the queen. We have to give her a title though... Albertina is currently the queen because she is responsible for introducing to the world people like James Cleveland, Shirley Caesar, Dorothy Norwood, Inez Andrews, Casietta George...can I go on? She's the MOMMA of Gospel I guess. LOL. So, what shall we call Shirley? Cause if it weren't for Albertina, we wouldn't know who Shirley was unless we lived in Raleigh/Durham NC.
