Two fantastic performers at the peak of their abilities.Neither really matched the corresponding albums of the time this performance took place. But what a legacy, even this performance alone is spine tingling.Always wish I had recorded this so thanks for the upload.I'm sure this is the ceremony where Shelby said"thirteen years and six albums and I'm best newcomer!"
Amazing performance!!! I love the combination of Sheryl Crow and Shelby Lynne's voice. Amazing song written by Sheryl Crow for her album "The Globe Sessions" which is one of the greatest albums ever!!! "My Favorite Mistake" is also on the album.
I remember feeling stirred to the core while I watched this. This is probably the only performance from any celebrity award ceremony that I actually remember where I was and what I was doing when I saw it. Hearing these women sing makes one believe for a moment that God (or maybe the gods) touches people and bestows a gift on a few. Beautiful. I think Shelby was under the influence of a controlled substance, though. She REALLY bombed the teleprompter reading after the song.
This song just blows me away. Like Stevie Nicks, Sheryl is an incredible songwriter / singer in a way only she can deliver. So talented. A true soul from the old school.
Spine-tingling performance aside...do you think the little N'Sync guys at the very end even understood/appreciated what just took place?? @_@ It makes me wonder; more so, it makes me laugh!!
correction...shelby lynne fan since 4july2001 the night I first heard "killin-kind" one of my very very favorite songs of my entire 45 years of life!...thankyou shelby!
honestly...i have every single shelby lynne album but never wanted a sheyl crow album...and this video demonstrates why!...maybe I'm just the "killin kind!"shelby fan since 4july2010
I happened to see this when it originally aired and was impressed immensely by that performance. Have always remembered it. You can tell Shelby likes the song for she's singing it with conviction with that little "yeah' at 1:38. Both women do a fine job of complementing each others voice.
Shelby might be wearing a "sexy" outfit here, but she looks totally tame compared to the way most mainstream female singers dress these days. Besides, she's a serious singer/songwriter and she normally doesn't dress that way.
who cares how she's dressed? if you're focused on that, then you're obviously not listening to the song. therefore, what's the point of watching the video? this song is incredibly and the women singing it are incredibly talented. leave how she's dressed out of it.
Black music has taken over. Who would've thought little white boys would prefer rap style music just to fit in with the "cool" crowd. There are a couple of decent musicians out there...but for the most part todays music is full of nonsense.
@RapIsDeadly I remember this Grammy performance 10 yrs ago and it made me buy the album, the one I still have. I remember Shelby Lynne (who I had never of before) coming in and giving me chills on this performance. I also find the beginning of your comment mildly offensive, seeing as I am a Black Southern Woman who loves all music, but sadly true. "Black music" hasn't taken over. Not real black music..you can't even hear good, true musicians on the radio anymore. But overhyped crap...yes.
Old motown is great...spinners, Ojays, earth wind and fire, Temptations, Pendergrass...etc are incredible. This was REAL music by very talented people. I dislike the direction of which music has gone. Even the rock bands today don't hold a candle to the pre 1990 bands.
I like all types of music myself...everything except rap and opera. I don't like the rap "culture"...I truly think it is destroying kids.
@RapIsDeadly I have to agree. I love Doo-wop, Motown, Pop (from the 60s-90s). I even love rap. Real rap: like Talib Kweli, Dead Prez, Common, Mos Def. Folks who get no airplay because they are communicating real issues, not just in the black community but all communities. I think music in general is vapid, assembly-line BS and most kids now are missing out on real music. I agree that today's "rap culture" is nothing but trash by money hungry studios. Its an injustice to rap's original purpose

Newsflash airhead. Sherryl is the brilliant songwriter behind this song and countless other major hits, what has Shelby written? not even one song comes to mind. And even though this is a beautiful perfomance by both of these women, Shelby looks trashy by soliciting attention with skank appeal. Re. your opinion of the fashion sense here, this is music and not a Paris runway, you might want to check out some Spice Girl vids. I understand they dress very well.. Should be right up your alley.

I fucking hate Sherly Crow but Loooooove Shelby. Too bad's it's not Lucinda, Patty G. or Neko Case singing with Shelby. Obviously Shebly dressed herself and Sheryl crow hired Helen Keller to be her stylist. Brocae goucho's in 2001? WTF? Thank goodness they at least gave Shelby a Grammy after all she had to endure.

Ha.
Shelby is trying waaay too hard to be sexy/hot, Sheryl is concerned with sounding great. There is a reason they aren't performing a Shelby song, and its that Sheryl is a 100 times better writer/performer.
My favorite Sheryl Crow song hand's down. Best lyric, "There ain't nothing like regret to remind you you're alive." Beautiful Performance. Thank you for posting.

Another great duet found on YouTube. But like Emmylou Harris, Shelby would never be caught dead in a dud of a duet. Always a winner.

Crow is a brilliant song writter and performer.
Will we ever see a performance like this at another Grammy show? Doubt it.
