Mao's youtube vids don't really hit 1million, but yuna's does, does that mean yuna has more fans or because she beat the record or is it because her vids display all the time when the words figure skating is displayed as a suggestion?

She is one of the greatest female skaters in the world.. no doubt... huge triple axel... I am not sure yuna Kim did that.. however, just compare their trip flip, Yuna has much more speed and precise edge. I guess judges gave fair GOE for the quality of their jump ... They may have different presentation or interpretation styles... I personally like the sophisticated style of Yuna. Nevertheless, both of them are marvelous ...and their rivalry is the best to watch too

I don't think she is only loved by Japanese. I'm German, and I love her to. If she deserve it or not, all skaters deserve respect, for what they are doing at the Worlds. This is sports and everyone has the right to have a favourite skater. It doesn't matter where you come from.

Oh you should read Sonia Bianchetti's review to realize who is the most overrated figure skater. It's Mao Asada. It's not only Sonia but also most of experts agree that Mao has been always overscored in every competitions.

mao has great artistry, and she's an extremely elegant skater on ice who probably only yuna can compare to. It's just she's been under tremendous pressure during this competition. Do people know that some of the audience booed her all the time during her short and long program? (your heard it before her second triple axle, and they even cheer after she fell) And they threw shoes and underwear onto the ice after she's done? that is so low
I don't think that this U.S. crowd is anymore pro-YuNa Kim than they are Mao Asada. That was mostly gasping when she fell.
At any rate I like her better than and more proficient that YuNa Kim...It's just that YuNa was able to tap into that sensual artistic side (al la Michelle Kwan) and give the judges what they were looking for in that aspect.
Mao Asada eventually went for a look described as "heavy and Russian". It's not as well liked.
I've watched numerous competitions and been into competitions myself and have never heard of a "gasping " like that. And the yell before her triple axle is clearly disturbing. You may search on google and there'll be news reporting how she's been treated during the competition. These athletes trained very hard, whether the audience prefer one to the other, they don't deserve to be treated like that. Anyway, I'm happy for her world title this year.
Mao's problem is... psychological, not technical. She used to be a very happy kid and never hesitated when she skates. Now, she always has that worried look on her face and hesitates a lot when she jumps and therefore falls. Clearly, she has too much pressure that she is not able to handle. I think people should just give her a break and stop bashing her.
@googoochung I notice that too... When she switched to Tarasova, she became mechanical as what Scott Hamilton said. Tarasova's programs grind her to do her best unlike when she is choreographed by Lori Nichol, her good assets are enchanced... I'm glad she switch back to Lori
The people bush her are not figure fans. If they know about figure skating they should know what a difficult program she was trying to master at that time. No one knew how much pressure she was carrying on her little shoulders. I recommend you to read the book "Mao saranaru takamie". It is a book that sum up her life of 20years. It's not written for praising her just simply tells the facts but it is dramatic enough to make me cry.

I used to like Mao, too. But, it is difficult to cheer for her any longer. I think Mao will never be able to win another gold medal so long as Yuna Kim stays in the sport.
Quad or no quad, new coach or not, rhythmic gymnastic s or not, Sochi or wherever, Maos main rivals for the second place will always be Nagasu (USA) or Min-Jung (Korea).
I am Yuna's fan. but also enjoy watching mao's performance. she is one of beautifully talented skaters. I love Mao Asada's program and felt that she deserved to have her scores carefully evaluated to make sure that she received her scores fairly. As I thought Rochette deserved to have a higher score for her presentation, and also for her flawless performance, Yu Na Kim deserved to have hers for her consistency and for her overall components that was expertly executed. I highly rank Asada, Ando, Rochette and Kim together in the superior group against the lesser known newcomers.
@waddleduckie1 Asada and Kim were in a class by themselves for the Olympics. The US girl in fourth doesn't have the strength yet but she will be in that group.

As far as I know, Yuna has never performed a triple axel during an official competition...and moreover,as far as I know,again, Mao has already beaten Yuna in 2008. And honestly I think Mao has more flexibility with her legs outstretched and can do more elegant spin and spirals. I like Yuna very much, but I wouldn't be as cathegorical as you are saying she's much better than Mao.

@81lavy Yu-Na is much faster than Mao. Her jumps are a farther distance. Yu-na did a triple triple combo which is harder than a triple axel double toe combo. triple triple combo is 6 combinations in the air. a triple axel double toe combo is only 5 and a half rotations in the air
Its sad that the new scoring system rewards points based on jumping ability. The skaters now should just skate around the rink and not have choreographed routines. That's how it is anyways now.
she's beaten yuna b4, i think she will finish ahead of yuna in vancouver. no one else does triple axels these days. i think that will be her wildcard.
Mao is such a lyrical skater with great knee bends & style but this wrong music. It's a waltz all the way through. V tough to do a single's routine to.
And poor choreography, except v end with the wonderful step sequence, where she shines.

Being a die-hard Yuna Kim's fan, I actually like Asada Mao's works. They are exciting to watch and Mao seems actually just a litte girl at heart, who doesn't know how to handle pressure and people's attention. What really bothers is not her mistake, but it's people's pitting her againt Yuna, and second rating Asada with a sorry look on her.
honestly i know she is trying to fix her lutz but it wasnt getting that many minusses before, if i were her i would have kept the triple lutz and the triple flip triple loop combo in her long

I don't think she was given enough credit technically for this performance, but I understand why people don't like the program. She's a beautiful lyrical skater, but that's not really displayed in this program. If she gets a lutz in her arsenal and finds the right choreographer and music, she can be unstoppable!
This proves that Mao wasn't active at all and was probably affected by the warm-up issue by Yuna Kim supported by the Korean media. They gave her a hard time and i think that she already lost her confidence and fighting spirit even before the competition. But i still think she deserves a medal because her program was difficult.
Korean media is so ridiculous. Yuna Kim should say an apology not only to Mao but to all the lady skaters in that competition. I believe they were all affected by that.

Yuna's all mistakes were downgraded at world 2010. If you check the results, she got only 60.30 points in her SP after mistakes.
It's MAO ASADA whose wrong jumps were not downgraded by some judges.
Check the homepage of ISU and see some judges gave her plus GOE for her messed up jumps like 3A, 3A-2T, 3F-2L-2L.
Mao has been always too much overscored.
It's Mao Asada who 3A-2T was overscored by some judges. Check yourself ISU homepage!lol

Oh you should read Sonia Bianchetti's review to realize who is the most overrated figure skater. It's Mao Asada. It's not only Sonia but also most of experts agree that Mao has been always overscored in every competitions.
Did any expert say Yuna was overscored? only Japanese.lol

@ale201006 why are you talking about something different? very typical korean discussion technique. first of all, if you suggest someone read an article, you should at least tell a link or the name of the article. btw ive heard at least chinese, finland, russian, french, and england media were saying yuna's score was too high. but its not what im talking about. USRuleJapan mentioned about judge corruptions. and i asked him if i can say exactly the same thing to yuna's PCS in world 2010.

@TheDarkSideOfLily well I totally don't agree, since mao challenges and taking such big risk, all the time trying new things, all show how much she loves skating where yuna on the other hand hasn't challenged herself the way mao did and taken risk the way mao did, and the perfect evidence for that is mao is skating in every competition this year as well as last year where yuna just skipped most of the season! all the things mao has done and and still does show how much she loves skating!!!

mao has great artistry, and she's an extremely elegant skater on ice who probably only yuna can compare to. It's just she's been under tremendous pressure during this competition. Do people know that some of the audience booed her all the time during her short and long program? (your heard it before her second triple axle, and they even cheer after she fell) And they threw shoes and underwear onto the ice after she's done? that is so low

I don't think that this U.S. crowd is anymore pro-YuNa Kim than they are Mao Asada. That was mostly gasping when she fell.
At any rate I like her better than and more proficient that YuNa Kim...It's just that YuNa was able to tap into that sensual artistic side (al la Michelle Kwan) and give the judges what they were looking for in that aspect.
Mao Asada eventually went for a look described as "heavy and Russian". It's not as well liked.

I've watched numerous competitions and been into competitions myself and have never heard of a "gasping " like that. And the yell before her triple axle is clearly disturbing. You may search on google and there'll be news reporting how she's been treated during the competition. These athletes trained very hard, whether the audience prefer one to the other, they don't deserve to be treated like that. Anyway, I'm happy for her world title this year.

Mao's problem is... psychological, not technical. She used to be a very happy kid and never hesitated when she skates. Now, she always has that worried look on her face and hesitates a lot when she jumps and therefore falls. Clearly, she has too much pressure that she is not able to handle. I think people should just give her a break and stop bashing her.

The people bush her are not figure fans. If they know about figure skating they should know what a difficult program she was trying to master at that time. No one knew how much pressure she was carrying on her little shoulders. I recommend you to read the book "Mao saranaru takamie". It is a book that sum up her life of 20years. It's not written for praising her just simply tells the facts but it is dramatic enough to make me cry.
I know now how she was feeling all those days

I used to like Mao, too. But, it is difficult to cheer for her any longer. I think Mao will never be able to win another gold medal so long as Yuna Kim stays in the sport.
Quad or no quad, new coach or not, rhythmic gymnastic s or not, Sochi or wherever, Maos main rivals for the second place will always be Nagasu (USA) or Min-Jung (Korea).

I am Yuna's fan. but also enjoy watching mao's performance. she is one of beautifully talented skaters. There is no doubt about that. why should she sacrifice all the other things for the sake of 3 axel? Her jumps are wonderful, of course. but makes me nervous, maybe her, too(I guess). As Yuna's fan. what i want most is Yuna's big happy smile! coz that makes me happy. Does mao look happy with that program?

She should learn to flow with the music instead of just trying to do jumps and move arms around. Lacks artistic qualities and her jumps make me nervous.
With her tiple axels, she still is not in the same league with Kim Yuna, who has all the qualities of being a true champion.

I'm sorry for Mao, really I don't know what she want to express in this program. She just shaked arms and did jumps. that's all. is she a jumper? Quality of jumps are so terrible, too. I love Mao Asada's program and felt that she deserved to have her scores carefully evaluated to make sure that she received her scores fairly. As I thought Rochette deserved to have a higher score for her presentation, and also for her flawless performance, Yu Na Kim deserved to have hers for her consistency and for her overall components that was expertly executed. I highly rank Asada, Ando, Rochette and Kim together in the superior group against the lesser known newcomers.

As far as I know, Yuna has never performed a triple axel during an official competition...and moreover,as far as I know,again, Mao has already beaten Yuna in 2008. And honestly I think Mao has more flexibility with her legs outstretched and can do more elegant spin and spirals. I like Yuna very much, but I wouldn't be as cathegorical as you are saying she's much better than Mao.

@81lavy Yu-Na is much faster than Mao. Her jumps are a farther distance. Yu-na did a triple triple combo which is harder than a triple axel double toe combo. triple triple combo is 6 combinations in the air. a triple axel double toe combo is only 5 and a half rotations in the air

Its sad that the new scoring system rewards points based on jumping ability. The skaters now should just skate around the rink and not have choreographed routines. That's how it is anyways now.

Mao is such a lyrical skater with great knee bends & style but this wrong music. It's a waltz all the way through. V tough to do a single's routine to.
And poor choreography, except v end with the wonderful step sequence, where she shines.
Can't understand why coaches aren't correcting her flips, teaching her lutzes & concentrating on 3-3 combos?
Obviously, she's an exceptionally talented, dedicated, hard working athelete, I think she is capable of all the above.

Being a die-hard Yuna Kim's fan, I actually like Asada Mao's works. They are exciting to watch and Mao seems actually just a litte girl at heart, who doesn't know how to handle pressure and people's attention. What really bothers is not her mistake, but it's people's pitting her againt Yuna, and second rating Asada with a sorry look on her.

Ando Miki sacrificed her last season to fix her jumps, and now she gains the result.
Asada Mao didn't make effort for the right changes and now she got the result.
It's just natural.
Most of Mao's triple jumps were made with wrong posture and reduced rotations.

I don't think she was given enough credit technically for this performance, but I understand why people don't like the program. She's a beautiful lyrical skater, but that's not really displayed in this program. If she gets a lutz in her arsenal and finds the right choreographer and music, she can be unstoppable!

This proves that Mao wasn't active at all and was probably affected by the warm-up issue by Yuna Kim supported by the Korean media. They gave her a hard time and i think that she already lost her confidence and fighting spirit even before the competition. But i still think she deserves a medal because her program was difficult.
Korean media is so ridiculous. Yuna Kim should say an apology not only to Mao but to all the lady skaters in that competition. I believe they were all affected by that.

oh dear. i just came from watching all these clips of yuna to check out mao, and i'm bombarded with all these hate comments about both NATIONALITIES.... not TALENT. it really ruins the experience of watching an artist's rendition and performance. while i do think that mao is a wonderful skater, i don't think that the music synced with her performance. her style is VERY different from yuna's but something quite unique of her own. i think both skaters are amazing but the hate should stop.

I love Kachaturian but this piece doesn't work for a singles skater. It is rather boring. Mao's talent got shadowed by the music. The choreo was lame too...

Japs, All countries deserve equality. Just stop cursing Yu-Na's country.
It might be hard for Japs to accept Asada's failure. But no matter how you Japs attack the winner and speak ill of Yu-Na's country, it doesn't change anything. It only makes Asada look ridiculous.

I saw you on the pre-WC vedio with despicable comments in a row, which attack Mao & speak ill of her country. I don't think the comment starting with japs go with the point you want to make here. You'd say its reaction to nasty comments to YuNa while the other side'd claim total opposite. If you see where it started, You'll know what's wrong. Each case has each cause. You might be the one who's throwing a bomb or faning the flame of it.
You should see how horribly mao's sites been bashed.
