Well I'm 39 now. But I've always loved old movies and old music!! Well it's not old but classic I guess. Love Sinatra, Dean Martin and Bette Davis and Rita Hayworth are my fav actresses. Ladies with sass, confidence and style!!
I am so sad because I wish I could be in her generation, the best, the 1940's. Now, all we have is stupid Kim Kardashian, Snooki, and other fakes. Rita, Marilyn, Ella, Grace, Katharine, Judy, all the ones who had pure beauty, perfect bodies, and most of all, they were pure. Not fake like everybody today. :( That would be my only wish, to go back in time.
@Westiepup101 That's not very fair, we have Kristen Chenoweth, Anne Hathaway, Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts, and plenty of other talented and charming performers. You can't compare the worst of today with the best of yesterday.
@Westiepup101 Me too! I am 27 right now, but for a strange reason I'm very into 1930's 40's and so on... Sometimes I think I came back. And I was actually living around those years in a different body.
this gave me goosebumps..anyone else experience that?? True this generation is fucked in terms of music and a lot of other things too..and it seems we can't do much about it except keep trying to listen to music from these "purer" times to give us some hope for humanity.
I love these comments. Great and so funny. God bless you all. I think we older types had a great time with music and movies. And look at how these old songs have lasted all these years.
@23dodmwad People who love this music with a passion like myself. I am 20, my children will be rocked to sleep with Sinatra, Dean martin, louis armstrong, ella fitzgerald and Rita Hayworth.

Sorry, I am sad to say, todays generation , and a few before, have not come up with anyone or any thing to comepare with this kind of music. Gone are the greats, John Barry , gone and so to Ole Blue Eyes, Martin, Sammy Davis , Poverottie , sorry for the spelling----Mancini is gone and so too many many more---gone, Thank God we still have Srtaisand and Enya, Sanatra was right- he said not long before his passing that he was worried about the direction that music was going----and -HE was right'
@suntamer14 Sinatra was competely right. And your comment is right too. Even Rock and Soul passed through a golden era (now called Classic) and today black music has became CRAP (sorry... RAP) and "Rock" is just a non melodic loud noise. I am finding Country still rescueable and enjoying it. New flamenco is gaining ground....
firsts thoughts watching this video - what has the new generation come to? spoiled and filthy. everything seems so clean back then. i don't know - i'm just 27.
How beautiful movie stars were once, it makes me sick to look at the todays so called stars with their fake asses, overpumped tits and anorexic bodies
@Edgarssprogis We want to dream, not to be put to sleep. Especially dramatic movies made in France. Real snore fest! I can say Hollywood today is not all that great, but I would not say European movies are all great. If I want down to earth, I just have to go outside. Movies were made to escape, but some boring human beings decided it should reflect our every day lives. This is how Hollywood lost its glory. Life itself can be overwhelming, why look at it in a movie? It's dumb!
@CroMarduk Some palefaces won't like this, but if you want to see stars that look like those ones today, GO LATIN. Here's some reccomendations: Eva Mendes, Jessica Alba, Salma Hayek, Penelope Cruz, Paz Vega, Shakira,Jennifer Lopez,Sofia Vergara.
@TheYaom Thanks for your comment Yaom. By LATIN I actually meant stars of Spanish speaking countries, being this language a derivative of latin. Thanks for including Raquel Welch and allow me to include Eva Longoria in the place where I am removing Jennifer Lopez. We spaniards are of latin roots too.
@CroMarduk I totally agree! Stars back then were real beauties! No cosmetic surgery to get bigger lips, bigger..smaller.. breasts..and they knew how to dress and they had talent.
They also knew how to be discreet about their private lives. Now, looks like it's a contest between the stars to be on tabloid magazines. Is it the way for them to be famous? I wish I could go back to this era when women were women and knew how to dress. Now many are hiding in baggy clothes, ripped jeans..argh..ugly!
@zefrenchgirl Your statement is not exactly true. Stars were indeed manufactured and enhance even back then. Also the press was carefully controlled as the studios decided what would be written and what would go into the releases. Rita Hayworth was a Latin woman and her hair line was reconstructed to better frame her beautiful face. Her hair color was also changed so she would appear to be more white. No one even knew she was Latina until years later after she retired.
@Thunderstormwitch Right! Not to mention the fact that Judy Garland's mother had her on performance enhancers from before she was even 10 years old, and she had massive drug and alcohol problems her entire life. Marilyn Monroe as well... That 'Happy birthday Mr President' moment? Drunk, and she'd been shoved onstage as an impromtu thing cos she was there. Not much has changed, the media is just a lot more open about things now... Different times.
@therealjoebloggs Thanks for that. It is amazing how the Hollywood of the past would and could change an actors name and or identity if they felt it was necessary. Again good show!
Actually, Rita Hayworth developed early-onset Alzheimers in her late forties and suffered a couple of decades of confusion and generally erratic behaviour, which were initially and mistakenly thought to have been due to alcohol. I think Rita Hayworth was one of the first celebrities to be used to promote Alzheimers awareness. Now, of course, Terry Pratchett has Alzheimers and is also using his celebrity status to promote awareness about this insidious condition.
Whenever I look at girls in the media today showing all they have and I feel inadequate and uncomfortable, I turn to these classic stars... Rita is still more beautiful than I will ever be, but has an inner beauty too, class and femininity, and I feel so much more whole and happy having these wonderful women as my role models.
watching videos like this and other videos from the 1900's makes me sad that the style and fashion have changed so much. It was so much classier, and the women looked much more beautiful than now days where they have most of their bodies on show
Those were the days, my friend... we thought they'd never end, we'd sing and dance forever and a day, we'd live the life we'd choose, we'd fight and never lose.. Those were the days, Oh, yes.. Those were the days...
Well, there are at least 5 people here that couldn't know what class and iconic beauty is if it were to walk right up and kiss them on the cheek. She was indeed a beautiful woman. If I were in the second world war, and I had an airplane to fight in, she would be painted onto the side of my plane hands down. The plane would be named "Mi Margarita Fabulosa."
The actress of this area were classy, and natuarly beautiful in every sense of the word, they were true LADIES, unlike the hollyweird me first sluts of today Yeah i know i misspelled a couple words
@MagillJohnM Well, Rita was an alcoholic so her beauty and 'classy' passed by quickly. As for the 'natural beauty' - Marilyn Monroe had so many plastic surgeries that even Pamela Anderson could blush.
I don't deny that women of that time were amazing, beautiful and classy - but that's just what we see on the screen and nothing more. Saying that nowadays women can't be that beautiful is just a schematic thinking (for example look at Monica Bellucci)
@SemiYazza She wasn't alcoholic, she suffered Alzheimer and her disease got confused with the alcoholism :) Because in this time the above mentioned disease was unknown
@Ixywincy Hayworth had problem with alcohol. Probably she was alcoholic..But she indeed did had Alzheimer as well...Maybe the disease made her drink even more...
of Lana Turner, Ava Gardner, and for some reason, Betty Grable, as well as Gene Tierney, many others, and I give them my respects for their own special beauty, there's something special about Rita that I just am so starstruck by, her aura is just scintillating.
The tune is so beautiful, spritual and endless, and seemed to play deep into the night, I can truly understand what @marcelosjc meant about feeling her, and I can especially feel it in this song, its so strong though the feeling is so ethereal, like when you sense the tip of something great and marvellous. Rita Hayworth remains my favorite hollywood beauty, though she was placed right next to the showcase of sex symbols
I just have to say, I clicked like just after the first 15 seconds :)
Modern celebrities can only be "hot" or pretty but they'd never be truly beautiful as the stars in the old times (sorry for my bad english, its not my mother tongue)
#2...as a matter of fact, i don't see her, i don't hear her, I just FEEL her...she's much more than a being...she is a feeling...may God be with you and I'm sure He is...one day, who knows, I meet you and thank you for the unforgettable moments you, through your acting, have offered me...RIP...
#1...I'm an ordinary guy, just fond of movies, mostly balck and white films...Anyway, I'd like to drop here a few words about Rita Hayworth, something I've never done before and probably never do again for anyone else...Rita Hayworth's beauty goes much farther than our eyes can see...her beauty takes over heart and soul...something I try to understand, but believe it that there's no explanation...when I watch her movies, my eyes just follow her...no space for anyone else, anywhere else...
@ReinaFilia Natural beauty? Rita Hayworth had as much (probably more) plastic surgery as the modern woman. Apparently she was too "ethnic" looking so the movie studios had her undergo a huge makeover and plain ol' Margarita Carmen Cansino became Rita Hayworth. You can look up the before and after photos on Google; she doesn't even look like the same person as she did before.
I think it's silly that the most people romanticize Old Hollywood when they were just as fucked up as New Hollywood.
@queefstorm ,i mean, younger, she was brown, and after light brown ex in Gilda, and blond in lady from Shangai, do you know what you're talking about?
Several of the most dazzling female stars of the 1930's to the 1960's "studio years" were stressed out so much by the control and strange worship of millions (never before had anyone experienced so much adulation), that they either lost their minds or overdosed, led sad lives, and never were able to feel in their soul the love people gave them.
@rurikvred i dont think it's just the 1930's to 1960's. look at how today's stars are coping. No...I don't think people are meant to be the centre of so much focus, good or bad. It's too much pressure.
@rurikvred . . . in that sense Ava Gardner was one real smart cookie !! She just said : that's it, I'm outta here and to hell with Hollywood. She relocated to Madrid, Spain in the 50s and then on to London England in the 60s where she evetually died in 1990. Look at poor M Monroe, she couldn't cope, and there have been so manny poor souls unable to cope with pressure !!
@rurikvred Murphy and Lucy Gordon (whoever she is), hardly belong with such stellar talents like Monroe and Hayworth. They weren't even from the studio era!
This song has been one of my most endearing melodies in the history of music and will always remain carved in me. Really appreciate your kind efforts in reviving it in site.
Rita Hayworth does nothing for me. Neither does Lana Turner, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor or Rachel Welch. Audrey Hepburn, on the other hand, destroys me.

@queefstorm , just more blond and the change of age....
labeate 1 year ago
@labeate She was never blonde. She dyed her hair auburn. Do you guys even know what you're talking about? Lol.
queefstorm 1 year ago
@queefstorm ,i mean, younger, she was brown, and after light brown ex in Gilda, and blond in lady from Shangai, do you know what you're talking about?

Acabo de enterarme de que acaba de fallecer mi abuelo paterno... Y no puedo por más que lo intente el contenerme las lágrimas!
Precioso y muy emotivo homenaje, que ahora todavía cobra más sentido para mí si cabe! :(

RIP
Rita Hayworth
Vivien Leigh
Marilyn Monroe
Francis Farmer
Judy Garland
Billie Holiday
Brittany Murphy
Lucy Gordon

@rurikvred Well said...

@rurikvred Murphy and Lucy Gordon (whoever she is), hardly belong with such stellar talents like Monroe and Hayworth. They weren't even from the studio era!

Your comment is beautiful and so true.
I'm a big fan of Judy Garland... May she and the others rest in peace.

@rurikvred don't forget Grace Kelly, Ingrid Bergman, Raquel Welch or Zsazsa Gábor
would be nice living in that time

I've always loved Henry Mancini's version of Moon River the best, one of the best songs from the movies.

What a knockout she was. The way she looked in Gilda, she just might be the hottest ever on the big screen.

Rita is my favorite icon next to Marilyn. A weird song to put next to Rita, but still beautiful though ^^

Rita Hayworth does nothing for me. Neither does Lana Turner, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor or Rachel Welch. Audrey Hepburn, on the other hand, destroys me.
