Seems like peeps were wearing t-shirts & talking about how hot it is only a few weeks ago. But going by what your wearing, that must have changed quite rapidly. I'll be over there in a few weeks, I'm a little scared lol. I've never been over there in winter.

Outside it's about 5 degrees Celsius at night. I grew up in the US so I have no idea how cold that is. :-D

im not sure if you know this or not, but there's a free program out there that i have called Wakan, its like a Japanese > english (vice versa too) dictionary..as soon as yoiu type in 'mochuu' it comes up the kanji, hiragana and english meaning..just thought it'd be helpful for future words and kanji you and other's dont know..peace

Aye, but in mourning people send out "I'm mourning" cards, to let others know they mustn't send greeting cards for you. I think it's something like 2 or 3 weeks before people start writing the greeting cards. :o

That's okay. When you get a 年賀状 from someone, then you will have their address to send them a return card thanking them for their card, however, you won't be sending them a 年賀状 in response.

I heard about that recently from a student as well - didn't know the Japanese word for it though.

She said she's sending out a bunch of postcards saying that she will not be sending New Year's postcards this year. :P
