You actually will learn faster on a smaller bike such as a 250, or 500. I started on a 600, and have a 750 now. Been riding for 7 years and not one wreck, but do do recommend starting smaller and take MSF course.

Yes, a 600 is a great starter bike, the K6 GSXR is a very comfortable bike.  If you get anything less you'd be regretting it on day 2 of riding it...

honestly bud, i started out on a 250, ive been in a bike wreck before, trust me its not fun, just imagine how piss off you will be if you wreck your nice gixxer over a shitty old model 250, so i SUGGEST you go with the smaller bike first. 600's are wayyy too torquey for a beginner, from personal experience stand point of course.

thats incorrect. K in the case of K6 doesnt represent 1000.  The K in gsxr represents the year model. K6 600, 750, 1000, and then K7 600, 750, 1000, then K8, K9, and K10 soon. Has nothing to do with the number 1000.

Seems to be OK so far. I must admit I was a bit nervous to start with but, as the bloke in the bike shop said, the throttle goes both ways, and I'm surprised at how easy it is to ride at slower speeds tbh. I was giving it some welly on a wide, virtually traffic-free motorway today, but I won't be bothering my knee-sliders just yet!

If you're going to ride like a cock, then yeah it's not a good first bike. But if you ride like a cock, you're better off not getting any bike at all...

they sit lower then the ninjas and yamahas, best thing to do is go to a local dealer and sit on the bike and decide which will be more comfortable. i am 6'-0" and i had a k6 750, felt good to me, i dont think you will have a problem on the 600 since they sit the same.

Yeah, I've decided on the GSX-R750, because it's got more power, and I want to be able to bring my girlfriend along from time to time ( She weighs about 125...shhh!) so I need a bike with a bit more power. I haven't sat on one yet, but hopefully the seat height is fine, and if it's not, well hopefully it's at least adjustable! Do you know if you can adjust the seat height and the suspension so that the bike can carry more weight and be higher off of the ground? Thanks for the help!

I own a 2009 R6, and i gota admit the tails on the R6's are just too tacky. Plus yamaha is too cheap to make seatcowls with out the stupid "mini seat" feature. Only gsxr i would get is a k7, just make sure you watch the frame.. suzuki had a mass recall on the k5/k6's. Nice bike none the less.
