Yes, it's obvious that he's lip synching, because him singing it "live" would interfere with the act.

This doesn't mean he didn't record it, and they use that recording.

In fact, the guy performing the act right now, Steven Bishop, lip syncs to this version, which IMO sounds exactly like Claudio Corneiro

@titiosi actually, the song is NOT sung by Corneiro. It's "Ne Me Quitte Pas" performed by Nina Simone. (Yes, I know, Nina Simone is a woman.) I have the song on my iPod. It's the SAME song. In fact, the producers thought the song choice would add to the humor, seeing as that the song is sung by a woman (a rather robust, african-american woman), and was being performed (lipsynced) by a skinny, nerdy, white dude. << Note, this is no negativity on races. It's just using opposites for humor.

No it isn't. The song title's literal translation means 'Don't leave me'

The people who covered it, I believe Jaques Brel did it as well, then changed it in to 'If you go away. However, the literal translation of 'ne me quitte pas' is 'don't leave me'.

This obviously works a lot better with the act
