I love how when Arthur asks Merlin if he is lying, Merlin looks super obvious that he is XD and when you think about it the story is a lie but the fact there is a sword in a stone that only arthur can draw is true. So Merlin is lying, yet isn't XD
awful, this smile on Merlins face at the end of this part.... so joyful and ...proud of himself... that he has managed to bring them all together at this magic place, the sword in the stone !
Arthur's facial expressions in this scene -- alarm at being awakened, boredom, exasperation, incredulous, doubt, disbelief, surprise, fear? I love this whole scene -- and thank you MJ for not breaking it up
I love how they incorporated the Sword in the Stone as a way to make Arthur believe in himself again. "only the true king" can pull the sword from the stone. Brilliant... and as much as I hate it, if Gaius dies there is no one who can 'prove' that Merlin lied.
@SeramiNefera Wait. What happens if Gwen recognizes that sword someday? "I know that sword, honey! My father made it. Of course, I'm sure, dear, I know my father's work! This is the same sword I gave Merlin when he wanted a special sword for you to use against that Black Knight guy."
A big smile spread all over my face when I realized that Merlin just made up the entire sword-in-the-stone-myth in order to boost Arthur's confidence...^^
@Heowa Oh my God, this whole scene is so amazing and Merlin is just wonderful in his telling of the "story" -- kudos to the writers and TPTB for their creative license!!!
The scene with Merlin telling his "bedtime story" to Arthur is so beautiful, with a somehow dreamy touch I enjoyed so much. And it's touching how Arthur thinks that Merlin is messing up the story to cheer him up.
