@amjan most 8 string players use the "standard" tuning on the upper 6 strings anyways. a lot of times the different tuning comes from the extra 2 low strings. so unless AAL are playing everything on the upper 6 strings, anyone with a 6 stringer will have to either figure out how to transpose it into higher octaves without it sounding shitty, or they would tune the strings down to match.

@stevo946 I'd agree with you, but I'm 100% sure he uses an 8 string on Point to Point. The video "Tosin Abasi playing custom 8 string guitar" shows him playing it, and at the very beginning you can clearly see that he hits the low F# for the very last note of the descending arpeggio type thing. The studio version of the song sounds just like how he plays it in the video.

Aside from that song, he probably used the 8th string for extended range during some solos.
