good combos. alot of these are variations of different combos i created but i do like the idea of simply getting the air magnum after the second heavy qcb+h. it seems more appropriate. well time to practice. I'm gonna train my ass off for final round 15
I'm used to canceling moves but I can't 100% get cH OTG into qcf+h magnum. And also, when I do I can barely get the launch to connect after they wall bounce.
@combomasher You have to cancel gun shot very early to get the magnum out. If you wait too long, the magnum will whiff. Also, the timing for launching after a successful wall bounce from magnum is somewhat tight. Honestly, the wall bounce is not pertinent -- you can omit that. Compare Combo I to Combo II. Damage-wise, they're about the same. The only difference (which you can't note from this video) is that the magnum gains about 15% more meter, which may be important in certain situations.
Whenever I try wavedashing into the cr. H, around 50% of the time I accidentally go into prone position when I do the cr. H. Any tips on avoiding this?
@requinox Hmm... try ending in down-back+H or down-forward+H to perform Gun Shot H. Make sure the joystick or d-pad doesn't touch down while inputting Gun Shot H. Let me know if this helps, otherwise I'll think of another solution.
@requinox Hmm... try ending in down-back+H or down-forward+H when performing Gun Shot H. Also, make sure you rest your joystick/pad in neutral after the wavedash. Lastly, and more often than not, a single dash will suffice. Let me know if this helps, otherwise I'll think of another solution.
Im having a problem with his Forward Medium Pistol OTG into Magnum. Even if I do a HCB for the motion I get a SRK grenade due to the fact I have to cancel it from f+M. I can get it if I delay it, but Im always afraid I'll mistime it and drop it, is their a way around this?
@SuperUltimateLoser You have to set the stick (or d-pad) back into neutral position. Otherwise, the game will assume you performed an SRK motion when instead you meant to do a QCF+H following Gun Shot M. One trick I use is to just gently flick the stick forward and at the same time press M. On pad, just lift your thumb up from the d-pad to reset it back to neutral. Practice this motion repeatedly until you're comfortable, then practice doing it following a wave dash, and finally try the combo.
Nice combos Brady. I never ever considered getting their game guide but seeing this video has changed my mind. Team up Chris with Spencer with the high grappling hook assist, which puts opponent in standing state is so deadly with Chris. It sets you up for another QCB+H or his QCF+PP.
@fireguysith There's this guy that goes by the name GCYoshi. He placed top 32 at EVO 2011 and used Chris/Spencer/Sentinel. With Spencer's Slant Shot assist, you can OTG with Gun Shot H + call Spencer, Spencer grabs the opponent out of mid-air and returns the character back to a standing (no juggling) position, which let's you follow up with Grenade Launcher (QCF+ATK-ATK), then Flamethrower (hold back+H) xx Sweep Combo (DP+ATK-ATK).
@Dragonslayer9 I thought about doing that, but I wouldn't want to take credit away from the authors of the guide (some of whom I know in real life). I mainly chose to perform Chris' combos because 1) he's one of my favorite characters in the game, 2) I noticed no one showcasing his new ability to Special/Hyper cancel out of Gun Shot M or H, and 3) he's an underused character that gets no love. I have some ideas for future videos, though -- stay tuned!
@ashlovesmanny I think in nearly all the combos I've displayed in this video, forward+H was canceled into QCB+H (Combination Punch H, or "Boulder Punch" as most people like to refer it as). Basically, a cancel just means that any time in which forward+H is active, you can immediately input QCB+H and it'll connect. This makes the combo easier, and every characters has normal and special moves that are cancelable. I hope I answered your question. ^^;
@HyruleDeath For the first dash, I push two attack buttons simultaneously. After that, I quickly tap my stick down to interrupt the dash with a crouch and let the stick go back to neutral by letting go, followed by pushing two attack buttons simultaneously to input another dash. This is performed quickly.
ATK+ATK, then quickly tap down, ATK+ATK, then quickly tap down, ATK+ATK, and so on.
Practice the input slowly first, then ramp up the speed once you get comfortable. Hope this helps.
@AzerZaldivar i figured out it works after a regular dash it took awhile though i always liked chis in original marvel so he is my main in umvc3 im trying to master him
@HyruleDeath The guide is insanely informative i LOVE it! Chris Ryu and Vergil is my team the reason being is they are all bad ass and it creates heavy zoning tactics!
Thanks for the info. I was wondering how it whiffed, but the combo kept going. How well does it work to do the grenade, grenade super, flame thrower, sweep combo? LLND used it all the time in vanilla and I'm wondering if there are any tweaks needed to pull it off.
@vernontwinkie That's still viable if you have the right assist to keep them from recovering. In general, due to the increase in hit stun decay, top with assists now contributing to said hit stun, those kind of combos are harder to pull off. It's just a matter of modifying your combos and pairing up with the right assist. I feel that Chris has now become more self-sufficient in doing high-damaging solo combos, so it may not be necessary to link Grenade Launcher into Sweep Combo. Time will tell.
@vernontwinkie The shotgun connected in the second combo (as well as in a few others). The shotgun whiffs when a ground bounce is used up. You might think this is bad, but actually it's a buff from MvC3. Before, if you used up your ground bounce, the magnum hit in Sweep Combo (his super) would cause the opponent to air recover. Now, any subsequent magnum hit will cause a hard knockdown instead (this is new), which, while the shotgun blast misses, you still get the OTG from the machine gun.
Good to see Chris is more viable now. I still haven't been able to pick up this game but I do like the character. Is there a way to combo of a throw mid screen on his own?
@kite0impulse These are all new. In MvC3, OTG gun was only cancelable into a Cross Over Combination (the Triple Team super). In UMvC3, it's now special and hyper combo-cancelable, which was one of his biggest buffs. It not only helps with his combo output potential, but also his zoning game.
Sounds great. I only need damage output and meter gain is a big plus but notions isn't needed imo. It's all fairly simple and straight forward. Good stuff by the way!
@Oimae I was working on some anti-Vergil stuff when I decided to instead record combos. But yeah, I'm not a big fan of combo and mixup-oriented characters, even though I used Dante for the latter part of MvC3. If I can get this tech to work, for my next video, I think I'm going to demostate how you can use Prone Shot to deal with stuff like Vergil's teleport slash.
Really digging the new combo capabilities of Chris, he was my main on vanilla MVC3.

@SuperUltimateLoser oh, then just relax the QCF motion to allow the stick to return to the neutral postition. It is still hard tho.
