I first heard this when I was 10yrs old.... can you imagine how this song drove a little kid to dancing. It may be old... but its rhythm and drums were very well put together.
I don't know who's got the loot, I don't know if anybody's got the loot, I don't know who's dead, I don't know who's alive, I don't know who's caught, I don't know who's not!
Joe wrote some of the funniest and funkiest songs to ever grace American Music. One of the things I loved about him was that he wasn't afraid to cross into different genres either. Example:he wrote the simply wonderful "Look At Them Beans" which was a Top Twenty County hit for the late Johnny Cash.
I saw this video on Soul Train with Joe Tex performing this song. He also had this lady on stage as well, not sure if that's his girlfriend at that time.
I think this is late sixties, he wrote a few funny songs, but he was not in the class of James Brown , we called JB soul brotha number one for a reason back then..
Two good friends from my childhood feel in love to this song in 4th grade. They eventually had a daughter but did not marry...................memories.................
Ever listen to K-Billy's super sounds of the 70's?
