  • Lines and pixels are no more with HD because HD video eliminates the incompatibility between videos from different countries, since the same frame sizes are used worldwide. For instance, full 1080 HD is 1920x1080 pixels, 1080 HDV uses 1440x1080 pixels, and 720p uses 1280x720 pixels in any country. The problem that arises now is that HD>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>formats still have different frame rates between NTSC and PAL countries. While HD has unified the frame sizes, we are still stuck with "PAL" HD using 25 fps while "NTSC" HD uses 30fps.So NTSC is better seeing how it utilizes a higher frame rate with higher fields NTSC using 60 fields while PAL uses 50 fields and NTSC has higher hertz being 60hz while PAL uses 50

  • So pal is better i asume.

  • LOOOOL this video was been converted from the one tv format to the other badly xD.

  • Where did you find this video clip?

  • @CasinAandC I recorded it myself using a crappy digital video recorder I had at the time. =)

  • Can I Play NTSC Games from America on a PAL PS3 from Europe??

  • @redman772 so long as the game isn't region locked then yes

  • @redman772 NOPE

  • don't we have pal-60 or something now?

  • TUS PELICULAS PAL A NTSC LLAMANOS AL 5851-4534 EN MEXICO D.F.

    LADA (0155) videobusquedas@yahoo.com

  • I'm from Europe, what should I use, NTSC or PAL? I heard that PAL is the right one but I want to shoot 24 fps with my EOS 550D and in PAL it's available 25 fps which is almost the same but.. anyway..

  • I heard of a new thing called DVD, woah!

  • ... plus we have to go through more astringent region codes. In the United States and Canada, we are in Region 1.

  • @NtinoAndMaria Most computers come with volume control. Try this as a solution first.

  • @Acidevil23 Well maybe you SHOULD HAVE USED IT ON YOUR END, perhaps...

  • @Acidevil23 Most people come with jerk control. Try this as a solution first.

  • @Acidevil23

XD Volume third after plugging in and turning on.

  • @Acidevil23 No ,dude the sound is actually low

  • @Acidevil23 LOL

  • i want to by a music cd from japan because it has bonus tracks that the american version doesnt, but i live in america and im concerned whether the cd will be oal or ntsc. what should i do?

  • @DestroX71689 Japan uses NTSC.

  • With HD, this is all slowly becoming a non-issue.

  • Price comparison example:

Fistful of Dynamite DVD NTSC locally costs 25 CAN$s tax included. Fistful of Dynamite DVD PAL from the UK costs 8 CAN$s and this includes postage!!!!

Nuts huh, you get better video for much less the price.

  • From Canada here,

I buy my DVDs now from the UK even though I'm in Canada why?:

    1. I have a Coby PAL/NTSC progressive scan upconverting(1080p) all region DVD player and a 37 inch LCD TV(the HDMI). I can actually view PAL DVDs in their native PAL video and I can say now that PAL is significantly better than NTSC.

    2. Also with postage buying from Amazon.UK, DVDs are cheaper ordering them from the UK than buying them locally, how did that happen?

  • NTFS will always and forever have that nostalgic feel when playing games :)

  • TV's used to be NTSC in the UK at first, but it was soon changed to PAL. so if you happen to have a TV from the 1940's and your emigrating to america it will work!

  • we need areal hd ps3 or xbox 360 pal vs ntsc comparison.

  • @xdeiri

no need, they run at 60 hZ in all regions

  • @figaro589

could you plz explain more, cause i think i read even if they runs at 60 hz i think the frames number still the same pal 25 ntsc 30. like most hd content like movies and others.

  • @xdeiri

NTSC and PAL60 run at the same frequency, for things like gaming and films, they run at the same framerate

  • @figaro589

dude not that i dont believe you but could you plz provide a source or in depth link , thanx again

  • Never Tested Since Christ!

  • my friend orderd a ps2 game from ebay and it whas a ntsc game but his ps2 is a pal system and that was 2 years ago and he still havent posted it on ebay lol

  • can i play ntsc in pal region

  • yes. but you need a compatible tv/monitor.

  • PAL is better. I mean NTSC is older and worse quality of the video/image.

  • Exactly.

  • Why -1 Thumb? NTSC has got worse quality, and its older regional coding!

  • if I buy a pal game, will it work on my american nes?

  • only if you mod the system to bypass a couple of hardware discrepancies (I really don't know how). Lukemorse1 is a Youtube user who has a couple of videos on the subject. He modded his American NES to play a PAL SMB+Duck Hunt cartridge. It's way sped up! The PAL NES wasn't popular in Europe because even when everything was compatible, the game play was slow.

  • "The PAL NES wasn't popular in Europe"?

What do you think the millions of NES players in Europe played on? Imported NTSC consoles on incompatible TVs? Yeah, right.

  • When you compare its success to the Japanese and North American markets, it wasn't a success. It's one of the few cases that a Sega console (the master system) actually beat a Nintendo console. The Master System had a bigger following in Europe. Granted, people bought and played the NES in Europe, but they were fewer than those who bought the Master System.

  • I suppose you have figures to back that up. As far as I know the NES was very popular in Europe. You see, people who grew up playing PAL version had nothing to compare with. For them, the game play wasn't "slow" at all so I don't see why that should be a reason for the "unpopularity" (which I really doubt) .

Where I lived back in those days the NES ruled. Sega was only getting popular once they released the Mega Drive. Their Master System was a failure.

  • the master system sold pretty good in europe. it failed in north america. i knew a lot of friends who had one back then. i have sms games made in 95 ^^. the master system was very popular in europe

  • The NES was plenty popular in Europe. Even if it were unpopular, it sure wouldn't have been because of the speed of the games. The PAL Master System's games were just as slow as the ones on the PAL NES.

  • Nope.

  • NTSC stands for "Never The Same Colour" and that tells a lot about NTSC. I prefer PAL, 2:nd SECAM and last NTSC. PAL gives the best picture, SECAM gives the best picture on longer distances and NTSC....ehh...always problems with the red colour.

  • You are all fucking morons and I hope you all die a horrible death for being dumb as fuck.

  • rofl

  • PAL has 576 VISIBLE line per sec

    but who gives fuck?

    1080i is the new wave

  • in my country a new high definition tv cost @ least 5000sr its 1200 us bux can you afford that thatss why we still work on pal

  • Comment removed

  • *sniff*

Why can't we all just get along...

  • is ntsc better quality or pal?

  • ntsc is beeter but the problem is it requires a high def tv

  • @Acidevil23 With newer broadcasting standards and optical formats, NTSC, PAL, and SECAM may soon become things of the past. Now, every channel can output at 720p24, 25, 29.97, 50, or 60 - or 1080i24, 25, or 29.97. HDTVs are much more versatile.

  • @figaro589

thatswhy they made something called PAL60

  • @figaro589

    pal 60, is the answer

  • @figaro589 The best thing about PAL is the color encoding. Here in Brazil we use PAL-M, which has NTSC resolution and framerate, and has PAL color encoding.

Combining PAL and NTSC would result in more bandwidth requirements.

  • @Dark0Lord7

    we've been using PAL-60since the late 90's

wish I could have caught on to that lol

  • @figaro589 nope we all upgrade to digital and still can't agree on a standard

  • @figaro589 PAL-M. That's what a Brazilian system is!

  • @rodrigoldiscool

I knew this since this comment lol

  • @figaro589 You mean like PAL60?

  • does ntsc mean anything i totally forgot dude

  • omg O_O I always saw this ad in Deutschland (Germany), and it SUCKED HORRIBLY.

  • ntsc sucks anus!

  • what the hell you talking bout their both good just different region codes, it doesn't matter anymore since HD will be the future anyway.

  • what.....? dude im not talking about picture quilty its the damn region duuuh since your american your region in terms of media is NTSC when certain games get ported here since our picture is alot faster than yours certain games get slowed down over here for some reason

  • well don't sweat it, I would hate that too now that you said that! thanks for the info.

  • not to mention it dose kinda suck were in the 21st century and we hav to worry about freaking region coding

  • Is good NTSC 60hz?

  • pal fucking sucks, its 50hz fucks my eyes up

  • get glasses then! ntsc sucks just as bad but in different ways

  • The only thing that NTSC suffers from is lack of RGB via SCART (which many older video game consoles took advantage of)

  • yes that and less detail that pal

  • Well games don't suffer from a lack of detail even though PAL has more resolution. That's why there are black bars on the top and bottom of PAL tvs when playing older games.

  • i agree

  • this video fucking sucks!

  • AAFES, LOL. Army peoples.

Why can't the whole world just switch to PAL or the upcoming DVB-T? I live in the US, and the DVB-T will have a better picture quality than ATSC (from what I've heard).

They won't though, since we already went to ATSC.

    FUCK.

  • So will a NTSC game work on a PAL xbox 360?

  • no, but its works if u have a moded one

  • I think not, and anyway, Just don't Google it... Just Yahoo! it : D

  • I heard NTSC movies are released much earlier than pal...is that true??? blue ray or otherwise

  • it's true, because the most films are realeased in america earlier than in europe

  • despites pal, ntsc, secam will be soon history, europe will get 50hz hd and amerika will get 60hz hd,so it will be still not compatible with eachother, they better off to call it pal,hd,ntsc,hd. and the origignal film will be still recorded at 24 fps!!!

  • pal or ntsc

    i prefer format with 25fps/24fps/576p/720p/

    than 30fps/60fps.....720p/1080/1440p

  • so.....what is better?PAL OR NTSC?

  • PAL was developed much later and is thus more "modern" (if one can call 60 year old technology modern).

Nevertheless, NTSC, PAL and SECAM are all history soon, at least in most wealthy countries (mainly in Europe and the Americas). These countries are currantly switching or planning to switch to digital formates, like ATSC or DVB-T. Less wealthy countries (Africa and Central Asia) however, will still retain their analouge standards for years to come.

  • Today the PAL NTSC television are the same and have the same features, even most of them are region free, also DVD players are the same.

The region system today is to prevent you to import games and movies(and I think thats bullshit).Im in Europe and I buy my DVDs in Amazon.dot and I watch them in my and they work, the PCs is a nice example how the region system is bullshit,PC´s DVDs burners are regionfree but WMP wont let you play imported DVDs,just download any other videoplayer and they play

  • HAHA LOL! No kidding :)

  • ntsc and pal wasnt created t stop you from importing it was creted a long time ago the region seystem is put to use so different countrys mainy the uk and us have diferent fromats

  • BTW, I've got a VCR that can play NTSC, PAL, and SECAM tapes (and I've got several PAL tapes that AREN'T from Europe, like Australia for example), and I live in the USA.

  • yeah see because Australia is still part of the British Commonwealth and when PAL was introduced to the UK, Australia also got it so they run The PAL format and its the same for New Zealand and i believe India and south Africa too

  • PAL is able to do 60 HZ, every TV in PAL Region is able to do 60 HZ now, except the older ones from 10 Years.

  • i have on from 1989 and that does 60hz.

  • too bad that the games are designed for 50 HZ

  • I have a ps2 game from the USA, but it dosn't work on my ps2 bacause I live in Norway. Do you know what I can do to make it work?

  • The smart ass answer would be to purchase a NA PS2 and a NA or multi-system TV.

I honestly don't know if there are converters out there on the market for your issue or not, though.

  • @goofyjenta

region mod will do the trick ;)

there are jumpers in the cucuit

    J1 - NTSC-U

    J2 - PAL EUR

    J3

    J4

jumpers 3 and 4 are jap ones. can't remember which ones are pal and ntsc.

    hope this helps a little

  • circuit*

  • guys, i used to live in Germany and it suck balls! i had to live with this freakin dumb program call AFDUMB... i mean AFN and it sucks big time because of:

No Naruto (my favorite tv Show)

    rerun episodes

    no commercials

and whats with *$#A@ing AFN FAMILY WHEN THERE SHOWING SMALLVILLE GETING THERE HEADS CHOP OFF!!

if Afn is reading THEN $#@*! you!!

    I'm darkspeed8

    Ps AFN GOT OWN!

  • I always miss the AFN commercial where the Airman in Hollywood explains AFN programming. Its laughable, because its completely false. There is TONS of "inappropriate" programming on during the afternoon and prime time for the little ones to watch.

BTW, why didn't you buy SKYTV or the German equivalent if AFN sucked so bad? :p

  • I tried playing the PAL version of Sonic The Hedgehog on an NTSC Genesis, and it works fine

  • yes secam is basically rgb since the colors never distorbs eachother.

it was a shame that the us,eu never followed this great franche example!!!!

  • i would prefer secam becouse it has a color subcarier unlike pal, ntsc ,instead of sending all colors atonce it sends the colors one by one onscreen, a special memory system wait,s untill all colors are arrived, once happend, it will shoots the colors onscreen, thisway there,s no distortion in the colors.

also paldx is based on secam,i wonder of there,s also a ntsc format wich works thisway????? i hope.

  • So secam is basically RGB?

  • No. Like all analogue colour tv systems SECAM us YUV, i.e. it sends a compatible black&white image plus two narrow band information for colour hue and saturation. The difference towards PAL and NTSC is, SECAM modulates those signals as FM which is quite stable when reception is bad. But SECAM causes red & blue sparkles in the image. Basically with the three analogue colour tv systems you have the choice of which kind of defect you prefer. :)

  • Screw region codes. They are nothing but harm :/.

  • @Frosmad Not on the european mega drive teehee

  • I think that instead of referring to the standards as simply PAL, and NTSC, respectively, we should refer to them as PAL-B/D/G/H/K/I, and NTSC-M, respectively, to be more accurate, because we also have both PAL-M, and PAL-N/NC, which are different - PAL-M is 525 lines/60 Hz, and uses a NTSC-like 3.57 MHz color sub-carrier, while PAL-N/NC is still 625 lines/50 Hz, but uses a NTSC-like 3.58 MHz color sub-carrier (the standard PAL-B/D/G/H/I/K color sub-carrier is at 4.43 MHz). ;)

  • Also, PAL was based on NTSC - it's essentially a "bug-fix" for NTSC's colors distortion problem.

So essentially, you could use the NTSC system with the B/G/H (or even D/K, or even I) modulation, resulting in a 625 lines/50 Hz version of NTSC.

  • no my friend

    Secam is based on NTSC

    Pal is totaly other system

  • Guys, there's also PAL-M (used in Brazil), which is 525 lines/60 Hz, just like NTSC. PAL, SECAM, and NTSC are just color modulation methods, but they're commonly associated with the lines/Hz that they're most commonly used with.

  • And lastly, there's the PAL-N variant (used in Argentina), which is somewhat similar to PAL-M.

  • does anyone know if the same is true for video games??? like can i play european games on my ps3?? i know they are PAL but will they work??

  • yes it will

  • there no right or wrong because PAL is sutable for 50 HZ electricity pal has better color but it flickers NTSC is disgned for 60 HZ countries that helps reduce flicker but not so much contrast

  • Also, the poor american/japanese picture quality lead to a greater acceptance of HDTV there, I heard, whereas the PAL pictures nowadays are so brilliant that one hardly sees a need for a better system in those countries.

  • NTSC was developped earlier, that's probably why it is worse. On the other hand, less lines means less bandwith, so they can have more TV channels, technically, than in Europe (and so they have).

The sound of this video is a bit low; had to get my headphones to hear.

  • There is no way around the sound issue. I have a first generation NEUROS recorder that I use to capture AFN. Try as I might, I haven't been able to improve it, though truth be told, I haven't been arsed to try very hard. Such is life. =)

  • Normally, it should be rather simple to make it louder, either during capture, or afterwards on your computer. Most video editing softwares should be able to do that. 'Denoising' would also be a good idea, if the analogue source was very low. If you don't have that with your software provided, you could still export the audio separately to a sound-editing software, such as freely available 'Audacitity', and do everthing there. Once you found out how it works, it won't be a very demanding task.

  • Audacity. The path to hell is paved with good intentions. I have yet to try out that application. The Neuros recorder outputs ASF files, which seem to be real crap. I tried converting them to other formats using ffmpegx, but I was not successful.

  • i've never heard about VCR, only VHS

  • PAL is able to do 60Hz it's called PAL60

  • NTSC = Never Tested Since Christ

  • but pal usen't be able to do 60hz

  • Ok, so since PAL is better, why are we still using NTSC here in the US?

  • Pal 625 lines is much better than shitty ntsc 525 lines
