What do the double dashed white lane divider lines indicate? They are towards the end of the video, separating the left lane from the others. I have never seen this before.
Nice video! Having never been in Miami though I guess I always imagined I-95 going through some skyscrapers instead of them being to the right (as one heads north).
@WiiMariokartResort: I never even saw this comment now. The long stretches of I-95 I haven't driven yet are north of Portland, ME, and between Richmond, VA to Jacksonville, FL. From what other people have told me, I wasn't missing much by skipping out on the stretches of I-95 thru the Carolinas and Georgia (I've taken I-85 and I-75, instead).
Brent, I really enjoy your videos. I love the scenic Miami highways. I am not sure why so many people dislike that area, although there is quite a bit of crime, it is still gorgeous. Just out of curiosity how many miles have you put on your car doing all of these videos??
Great job as always, Brent. I'm surprised it took me almost to Christmas to finally watch this video. Always had wondered what the southern beginning of I-95 in the Miami area looked like, anyway!
Just curious, cause I see you love doing the open road, still trying to find somebody in the world who has covered at least 48 states like I did since 1998, by car only, is it you the... #1? Maybe 49 or even all 50 states?
@401RoadWarrior: Ha, not quite that many. The only states I haven't driven in are Alaska, Hawaii, the Dakota's, Minnesota and Wisconsin. So far, since I've gotten my license at the age of 16 (I'm 28 now), I've driven over 600,000 miles, which includes time spent in 3 Canadian provinces and 2 Mexican states. Not too bad, meh?
@FreewayBrent SD: you gotta se Mt Rushmore, a piece of patriotic American history, and the very close-by Sturgis (bike week in Aug), ND (I've been 2 Fargo and visited State Capital in Bismaek, MN (I visited Minneappolis), WI (2 visit Harley Museum), btw, in my case as I'm NOT American citizen, my real purpose of driving so much in the States is 2 VISIT lots of places, capital bldgs, nat parks, historical and patriotic places, so not just driving for the sake of driving...
@FreewayBrent ...in DC maybe 7 times, LA twice, TX maybe 3 times, New Orleans 6 tms, FL over 8 times on vacation, Grand Canyon 3 tms, Maine twice, San Diego twice, El Paso twice, Galveston over 3 tms, Dallas/Houston/Austin twice, OBX, Everglades Nat Prk in FL, visited state captl bldgs in most of the states I've been 2, so I have my fav places and not so fav ones...
Around 700K miles in my case but I'm way older than u, only Tijuana and Nuevo Laredo in MX and only ONT and Quebec in CDA.
@alligatoralley748: It is called "The Notice" by Chris Lake and Nadia Ali. The full details are available, by scrolling toward the last 10 seconds of this video (I always list the song artist and title at the very end of my videos, in case anybody is interested in downloading the track). Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. :-)
Great Video with all the information listed. wow i'm totally impressed with the effort that you put in to making this virtual trip as enjoyable as possible.. and what a great tune from Nadia Ali.. Cheers mate !
@hadabenz: Thanks, man! I saw your comment on my I-80 (Utah) video as well, but I was really hoping you'd watch one of my most recent videos, as this video, more or less, represents what my future releases will look like.
In the future, I plan on eventually re-editing the best of my scenic and urban videos, and introduce my revised annotation format. Should look much better, especially with videos such as the I-80 you watched.
@RedroomStudios: Yeah, I-95 is definitely an impressive freeway, especially by east coast standards. That soaring HOV flyover ramp in the median, about 3/5 into the video, was built in 1995; kinda reminds me in some ways of the I-110 elevated HOV structure in Los Angeles.
@Cyrus992: Unfortunately, I did not record Florida's Turnpike, when I was driving around the state. In my true honest opinion, there are more interesting freeways to be found in Florida, although there is a section, northwest of Orlando, that is actually relatively hilly. Hills and Florida, now those are 2 words that you don't often see thrown together in the same sentence!
@FreewayBrent That okay... just show me the one that are the most interesting!! BTW, Did you delete some of your videos in Las Vegas and Southern California?
@Cyrus992 well Texas is well prepared in the situtation along most of its southern Interstates . but i noticed the sign's here sayn its a evacuation route. where are the evacu lanes ? , where are the additional lanes ? . there is no substantial median along i-95 here in order to obtain additional flow of traffic? does freeway has contraflow posibility's?
for one . im glad you chose Florida , over your previous thought . one thing i must say is that the editing is consistant , and impressive . A good way to show off some of the Interstate systems best interchanges along any route in the country . and to conclude this video at one of my favorite sprawling interchanges it deserves a favorite on my list .. Congrats and good job .
I remember getting lost at the Golden Glades. It was 8pm and I got distracted by the Silver Meteor running next to me. I tell you ane thing, they don't like New York plates in the wrong neighborhood. ;-)
@Bbgunn325: Driving thru it a few times, I never got lost thru it, but a big part of that was because I've studied it on maps before. Even so, while putting this video together, it still took me several minutes to decipher what routes were served by each ramp. Truly a strange configuration, maybe the strangest I've ever seen for such a major interchange.
@aswchris: Hey Chris. As far as commuting all the way from WPB, some certainly do it, although those people are certainly in the minority, as housing prices aren't (as) expensive as what you see in much of urban California.
What would you say is the best freeway to drive along in Europe, for skyline views?
@aswchris There is some WPB-MIA commuting but it's not a high-volume thing. As you know, the Greater Miami area's (aka South Florida or the Gold Coast) three counties are kind of lined up in a row, Broward being in the middle, so it's a very elongated metro area. You do see a lot of commuting from and to Broward, since none of its neighborhoods is more than 75 minutes away from any part of SFL, but parts of WPB are 90-100 minutes away from downtown Miami, even driving at a nice, constant 80 mph.
Amazing. I never get tired of those skyline views at the beginning, and I have to say this whole video brings a lot of memories to my mind (my dad and I used to go from Fort Lauderdale to Miami to visit my grandma every month or so, and we usually drove down I-95 till its terminus and continued down US-1). And yeah, you do see a couple of nice interchanges that by East Coast standards are almost insane. What I don't miss is motorcycles flying by at 3000 mph!!
@AlvinHDavernport: I feel you on that. Seeing my own footage certainly brought back a lot good memories from South Florida. The I-595 interchange is right up there amongst my favorites on the East Coast (I-595 is basically a series of one flyover after another).
@FreewayBrent Absolutely. I love I-595, short as it is. The Sawgrass Expressway interchange at its western terminus is probably my favorite interchange ever.
I really, really like the Broward area, especially west of US 441 (and east of I-95, of course!). It's probably one of Florida's prettiest suburban areas, with really smooth roads, an expansive waterway network, and lots and lots of greenery.
95 in South Florida is one of the most challenging roads to drive even for the most experienced drivers. It's also one of my favorites (love that skyline view in the beginning and from the HOV flyover at Golden Glades). Like you new signs, too! ;-)
@CosmoPhotography: Yeah, once you combine the high traffic counts with the different lane configurations and left-handed entrances and exits from and to major freeway junctions, I can see how it can definitely be confusing to drive. I'll agree, the skyline views afforded from I-95 are great, and especially at night, when all the buildings are nicely lit up.
As far as all the inserted signs are concerned, well, I think *you* started that trend. :-)
What do the double dashed white lane divider lines indicate? They are towards the end of the video, separating the left lane from the others. I have never seen this before.

Drive safely out there, and remember to use the left lane for passing, not for cruising.
