  • Guess what? This comment is 47 characters long.

  • Species 8 47 2

  • This video is 9mins 24secs long... 9-2=7. leaving 74 - the reversal of 47

  • After writing that last comment, I had 427 characters remaining... take out the 2 to leave 47.

  • There is a pattern here... it is... 47

  • what the fuck

  • There's a Terra Nova episode (written by alot of Star Trek writers), where they narrow down the females to 47 suspects.

  • Coulda cut down on the 8472's a bit. We get it! Overall a good vid!

  • dude....great vid....but you have way to much time in hand ;-)

  • @Morsurator, that is the Episode when a rouge 8472 boards the ship and a Hirogen Hunter joins the crew too find it on Voyager. S4 Ep16 "Prey"

  • @pschuman21 Thank you very much!!!

  • on the time 5:46 - 5:54 the doctor calls to the bridge to say that species 8472 is on voyager or something. Could anyone tell me what episode that is????????

  • That just shows that humans are very bad random number generators.

  • it is amazing, isn´t it? Just like a illuminati conspiracy the number 47 shows up in so many scenes for different dates and the HITMAN from EIDOS is also called Agent 47! What a glimpse of hidden wisdom?!?

  • i wanna join that college

  • It's the most common random number. I see it everywhere too. it's fucked

  • Comment removed

  • Must have been how old Janeway was when they started this "Voyage" don't you guys think? XD

  • this is a joke from the producer and many collage ppl, who made it possible.

  • Thank you so much for this video. It's not only Star Trek. Everywhere the numbers 23 and 47 are used riddicolously often. Movies, Musics, Books, you name it. I mean by definition there has to be one number used more often than any other but the margins are staggering on 23 and 47 and maybe 6.

  • I'm surprised that nobody has tried to dislike this video up to the 47th time.

Great video though. Nothing about it that should be disliked. :D

  • SEVEN of Nine joined the crew of Voyger in season FOUR 0.0

  • OP you should also remember when doing this count for the number 47, that things such as the episode Whispers, the planet Parada 4 has seven moons, they are pretty obvious when actually looking for them, but can be missed for example.

It would be an enormous project to count the episodes throughout all 4 series where this number appears, some are obvious whilse some are not, you should definitely count the log files, console shots, where this number appears, there could be many thousands of 47

  • @sylvantos Hi there. Very interesting. Care to start a little project? I could provide a plattform for some people to enter every occurence of 47 and relate it to the occurence of other numbers. Just reply if you are interested.

  • Joe Menosky one of the writers for Star Trek TNG went to the Pomona College, CA where the number is a favorite of that college. 47 is a mathematical proof that suggests all numbers are equal to 47. Joe then infected other writers with the enthusiasm for the number 47 and the reverse 74 both of which appear throughout TNG, DS9, Voyager then of course in later in Star Trek Enterprise.

  • It is plain to me that Deep Thought was out by 5

  • 0:47

  • Space ship full of geniuses and nobody of them ever wondered why 47 is all over their asses....

  • @tubeguy2012

    How is it "the trigger"?

  • Nope, the numbner '47' was the favorite number of a professor at Pomona college. Two of the NEXT GEN writers wewre strudents of his - so they started inserting "47" whenever possible in al, of their scripts. Ronald Moore picked up the joke and worked it into "BSG", J.J. Abrams used in "alias" and the 2009 "STAR TREK" movie

    - The Music Loving Klingon

  • Gawd, I love VOYAGER. Thanks for the reminder.

  • You missed one from Basics: How many Kazon are on the ship? There are 47 Kazon and one Betazoid on board. What did you say? Betazoid!? There are 47 Kazon and one Betazoid on board.

  • This is ridiculous

  • my personal favorite one is at 0:43:

    Tuvok: ''47''

and janeway is like: wtf not again XD

  • @smogalarm

I thought exactly the same thing....

  • Now do all of the "Deep Dish Nine" references. (LOL)

    - The Music Loving Klingon

  • YEHA babe species 8!!!47!!!2 rocks ^^

  • last episode of TNG began on Star date 47988 ;)

  • Cant believe i watched all 9minutes of that......fuck i must be bored!

  • @UncappingBadger yeah, me too...

  • Does the fact I was impressed by this featurette and some of the comments o this page make me a nerd to the 47th power?

  • someone's got too much free time- but this is interesting

  • @billco73 Yeah me apparently!

  • Dude, I know this is going to sound crazy, but what song is it that you have playing in the beginning and the end of the vid? It's been driving me wild trying to figure it out!

  • @thew40 Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who.

  • 23, 42 and 47. They are all over nature and repeat over and over again much more than the digitally touted 39.

These numbers pop up A LOT in theatrical sources and in literature as well. Many people gravitate towards these 3 numbers when writing because they have an authoritative and official ring to them, but the matter may be even deeper than that. Do some research. It is a really fascinating subject.

  • @PariahOfTheKOHLM

    How is 39 "digitally touted"?

  • IQ of 47

  • about the 47th time i beeen 47' rikroolled today.

  • i just got 47 rolled! GRRRR

  • "September 11, 2001......9.......plus 11......plus 2001........that's 47"~EvilIguanaProductions-the number 47

  • someone should make one with every 47 reference in trek

  • Voyager's registry number was NCC 74656. This contains two subtle 47 references...

The obvious: 74 is 47 in reverse

The more subtle: 656 times the speed of light is warp 7

  • omg thos video name is Star Trek Voyager and the Number 47 - Featurette....omg ....47!

  • 47!

  • Ho, and when I learned about the number 47 in Star Trek, I was 47 years old.

    I swear !

  • And that's only Voyager.

47 is also present in Deep Space Nine, Enterprise, and movies.

Like Picard's security access code in First Contact : 47 Alpha-Tango

  • Writer and co-producer Joe Menosky inserted the number 47 into various scenes becausewhen he was a graduate student at Pomona College in Claremont, California, the professor of mathematics there woul prove that all numbers are equal to 47 (as a joke) and nothing to do with Apollo 11.

  • Comment removed

  • and 40 of those are 8472 lol

  • I'm viewer: 14,172...

  • Now we know why hitman has the number 47 ;D

  • spiecis 8472 XD

  • 47th luck number.

  • pomona represent!

  • chirp!

  • 8472 8472 8472 8472 8472 8472 8472 8472 8472 8472 8472

  • Great edit. Nice Job. I didn't know that Star Trek was cancelled 47 days before the Apollo Moon shot.

  • I counted 124 times. I may have been off by one of two though...

  • I wonder if there are other things thrown into the Voyager script that are more subtle.

like the the amount of times Tuvok says, "Indeed"

    (147 times?)

or how many time Janeway says "Do it!"

    hmmmmm

  • I wonder if the writers did this on purpose

  • It's obvious they did. It was a "magic number" for them, a number they used when they needed a random one.

  • @Zhaan4ever

    Yes.

  • who remotely cares..to be honest voyager wasnt that bad at all..i think its a thousand times better than the pathetically made star trek enterprise...and watching it all again make me quite sad we have lost something we will never get back again. anything anyone does from this point on including the new movie..i cant even pull myself around to calling it star trek xi. I'd rather have seen a ds9 movie or a voyager. watch the show from the beginning again..its not has bad as people make out

  • @sylvantos "and watching it all again make me quite sad we have lost something we will never get back again"

Indeed, I feel this exact same thing about TNG, and Voyager as well. We need a new good strong quality Star Trek series along the lines of TNG and Voyager.

  • @sylvantos Apparently you and the others that thumbed you up. lol

  • when you study ancient religions tied with freemasonry. they are obsessed with numbers. did you know that the tern "vulcan" was originally used to describe volcano worshippers. and that the high priests gave the same hand singals as "live long and prosper"

  • No. The hand signal has Jewish origins. But yes, "vulcan" refers to volanoes. "Romulus" and "Remus" have their origins in Roman culture.

  • good work.

  • I got 125 times

  • 23 is better :-D

  • DECK 47, access 47, unimatrix 1947, 47%, 47 omega, 47 km, Star date 56947, 1.47 microseconds, heading 151 mark 47, 47 times, tuvock 4747, 8472

  • Nice, must have been much work. :-)

  • Wow!!

  • 4:28 to 4:57 ok we get it speicise 8472.

    how about a new name.

  • I never realized they mentioned species 8472 that many times!

  • Of course...

  • if you go back and watch the old tng eps they say 47 a lot too

  • What's even more weird is that if you try and get the star trek voyager all seasons box-set it has 47 DVDs in it. Very strange!!!??

  • species 8472.... 8--2 is the reverse of the number of days in a lunar month. So is this a reference again to the moon?

  • Btw, Roswell was 1947.

  • ****SAMMYJS99 raises an eyebrow***

  • OMG!! This must have taken you ages!! :-O Lemme guess.... 47 months and 47 days.... Very interesting - I think you've got something here.

  • Everything goes back to the number 23, uh, I mean, 47! Kudos to you!

  • i see 47 everywhere. help..please

  • wow they love to say 47

  • Wow, epic. I applaud your research efforts.

  • and 33

  • they also say 32 alot

  • 47 is too much. So much mistakes. It's 42! :-D

  • 47 is 42 adjusted for inflation ^^

  • hmmm 47

  • Wow, I lost count about halfway through...

    I love the who ^.^

  • "Velocity: FOURTY-SEVEN kilometers per our... and HOLDING...!" The universal translator has excellent voice recognition and recording software, incidentally, exaclty 47 times more effective than in the 21st century, therefore a superor choice for any member of this time incursion exploration unit. The fact that I am a vulcan deems me more mature to decide that the fact of you seeing patterns in the chaotic nature of the universe in the form of the number 47 proves you to be delusional.

  • I'm so glad someone else noticed this. XD

47 has been my favourite number for a long time, so I noticed when it was used so much in Voyager. Made me love it all the more! *cuddles*

  • Hahahaha, excellent!

  • Damn it! Stop them from using 47 so much. It's annoying!!!!

  • Voyager = 4th Series of star trek and had 7 seasons :'O

  • It is connected. You will DIE.

  • omg! and i was born 47 - 27 years ago!!

  • ROFL! cool, cant say iv ever noticed all the 47's before! now i cant help but notice!! :P

  • what is the episode where they talk about 8472 attacking earth? i don;t remember that.

  • that is 127 +/- 1 mentions of "47" in 9 mins 23 seconds of video!!!!

  • what was with them syaing 8472

  • 47 = 4 + 7 = 11

    SCARY!!!

  • why is that scary?

  • Star trek XI !!

  • Wow, how long did it take to find all those clips? I really want to make a fan vid but not sure what to do, people have beaten me to almost everything lol

  • what does all that mean? why 47?

  • I have heard it was a favorite number of a member of the production staff (Ronald Moore, I think), and he included it every chance he had.

  • joe menosky.

  • haha, nice.

  • species 8472 anyone?

  • Favourited 47 times ;p.

  • lol, this was funny.

    Good Job

  • Hahaha, 47. I guess that's where Lost gets it's numbers fetish.

    4 8 15 16 23 42.....47!! :P

  • the original Star Trek wasnt canceled.... Kirks 5 year mission was done at the end of season 3!

  • NBC decided to cancel the show at the end of the second season but the fans asked and convinced NBC to make another season to end the series.

  • Absolutely incredible...brilliant job. :D

  • That was brilliant, thanks for compiling it and sharing!

  • maby that was their favorate number lol ''47''

  • I will start dreaming about that number now!

  • I'm partial to 147 , 47, and 7.

  • I love that someone else "out there" noticed the number 47. It has long been a favourite number of mine and to hear and see it so often in Voyager is comforting. Thankyou for taking the time to compile all the 47's spoken by some of my favourite characters.

  • ....wow....they were REALLY fond of that number...i can't believe ive never noticed before!!!

  • lol that was awesome - especially when they all say 8472 like 47 times in a row...

(see what i did there?) ^_^

it's weird how i never seemed to notice that through the show

  • this HAS to be a inside joke!!! a number just dosen`t come up this many times in a random way.

  • Yes. Google is your friend.

  • Is this like the movie 23? lmfao

  • Er, at least spike tv.

  • haha, I can tell you've been watching the Sci Fi channel and Spike TV.

  • Just tap your hand, dude!

  • Incredible. This must have taken at least, what, forty seven days?

    *groans*

  • More i think.

btw: 47 appeared in this video 247 times.

as a side note one of the display screens also showed the number 47474747

  • I actually slapped myself watching this. Good job, I never noticed this xP

  • That is freakin AWESOME! Hahaha!

  • Wow! Interesting..didn't realize that the number 47 was used in so many eps of

Voyager! EEK! I must go look back at my DVDS in a while. That's interesting!

  • ok...this is amazing!

  • How did your head not explode making this vid. Did they do all this for the reason you said?

  • species 8472.... hahah

  • 8472, 8472, 8472, 8472, 8472 .... blohaeaaooa

    LOL

  • lol

  • Rofl at Species 8472, excellent compilation, thanks for creating and sharing.

  • God, that must have taken a long time and was totally worthwhile!

  • wow thats really cool

  • Wow that must have taken at least 47 months.

Brilliant and funny, you should make more videos :).

  • SEVEN: There are breaches on decks four, seven, eight and twelve.

  • ..perhaps it was one of the writer's lucky number;) haha..no i find it a bit far fetched..They say numbers and dates etc all the time on this show..

  • Yes, but 47 has been confirmed by the writers themselves to be sort of a "lucky number" for them. It's very obvious.

  • the writers are perhaps numerically unimaginative? or is it some coded cry for help? it reminds me or maths exams when we were given a whole page of random numbers in the back of the text book, for some reason.

  • glad to know that I'm not the only one that's caught on to this. Everyone else says I'm a fruit loop when I bring up this theory.

  • I'm just glad they didn't use 420 as their number of choice.

  • @frickabee

    Why?

  • lol, wow that was a lot of 47's...must have taken u a really long time to get all of em :)

  • Well, you've got me officially hooked on the number 47. Did you know it's also in TNG, DS9 and 2 of the movies? :P

    Great vid, 47/10

  • You sad sad bugger. Lol. Awesome work.
