Scrubs? I am hear because i first heard this song on the radio whilst driving over the English Pennines in Pitch Black fog and rain and it scared the living snot outta me :D
Your videos compliment this well. The first time I saw "Koyaanisqatsi", at a little cinema in Manhattan, I felt like I had witnessed some sort of religious ritual.
Oh please "this music played in scrubs" you need to get out more and the real genius here is the director / producer Godfrey Reggio's vision. This sensory pleasure is the best of the 3 movies Powaqqatsi and Naqoyqatsi having lost some of the power by the time they made due in part by the commercial companies ripping off the style to "sell" products ironic really.
Probably just adding more to evident human destruction: A bug splats on the upper right part of the helicopter windshield right around 5:52. I feel our very existence is reflected in that unfortunate insect!
@wisper42 I absolutely love the movie & soundtrack,..Do have any idea what language the chorus is singing in?? I know the word "Koyannisqatsi" is Hopi language.
it's sorta annoying how people come to Koyaaniqatsi and don't talk about anything besides godamn scrubs. we get it. the director or whatever used a truly beautiful piece in a moment of intensity. now shut up about it. I'm glad you found your way to Philip Glass, but nobody cares. honest. NO ONE cares.
That is an amazing rendition. I really like the mirror effects. Also, Peter Gabriel's eye is always nice to have in a piece. I am a big fan of Peter and now Philip for his amazing music. I hope you had as much fun making this as I did watching it.
Que maravilha. Vi esse filme no cimema há 30 anos, pelo menos, e nunca esqueci. Mais de uma hora só de imagens e música, aliás, música do Philip Glass. A maioria das pessoas achava o filme chato. Eu ficava vidrado nele.
Very nicely done indeed. The thing I like most about this interpretation is that people are still taken by Reggio's film some 30 years after its release. And that an important message hasn't been lost to deaf ears and blind eyes. I suspect 'wisper42' may have the potential to breathe new life into a celebrated favorite.
Koyaanisqatsi is from Hopi language, which is spoken in Arizona by Hopi, a nativa America people. It means "life out of balance" or "a state of life that calls for another way of living"
@XxEbonyAndIvoryxX it's Hopi for "crazy life, life in turmoil, life out of balance, life disintegrating, a state of life that calls for another way of living"
I find the way the editing jumps the way it does very out of character with the music. and yes do stop playing with the video FX please. try some gentle transitions such as cross fades so the film flows with the music.
I hate buildings for one, and cars and such things that screw nature, you get the idea, it really makes me sick when someone looks over a big city seeing all the buildings from afar and saying: "What a nice view."
Hell no, trees, plants, animals that's nature, cars, buildings, cities and in my opinion humans are far from nature these days, the difference is, animals kill and hunt for survival, humans kill for profit and greed, that's far from nature, we became even worse then animals, we've became slaves to useless things made out of paper and ink, who's the real animal here?
If you have god in your name I assume you are catholic, which I say you fail because catholics say god create dus, not nature, besides that, we are no longer nature, we became nature's biggest failure, so yeah ant hills and beaver dams are nature, but our foul cities and other "creations" aren't because they do nothing else but comfort us, and that has nothing to do with nature at all.
@jemoederheefteen Actually, my name was stolen directly from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and I'm not catholic, and it's not wise to simply insult people on the internet unless you're actually hoping for a flame war. But anyway, why are we no longer nature?
Because animals make these things to survive and keep in cycles of nature, take example trees and birds, things one of them create get eaten by the other one, and the other grows because of it, that's a cycle, I don't see anyone surviving thanks to a car or anything growing from it, none the less, it rapes nature, destroying anything natural and any natural reason to be there, and if you see this as nature, you are no longer part of nature at all I think.
@jemoederheefteen really? beaver dams do something besides comfort beavers by intention?
Every animal born of nature tries nothing more then to align it's environment to it's own comfort, however, most of them are so limited in depth of action that as soon as their situation allows their population to boom they face a new limitation that prevents future expansion. Every time we are thrown a roadblock we out think it, and are never hindered. I would call that nature's greatest triumph.
Maybe fundamentalists believe that god created us. Don't talk about people you don't know. Those, who are bible bashers, are the people you see in newspapers and TV, so you might believe that's everyone's opinion in catholic church.
God is rather the origin of all and the force in every sign of life. Of course we are free to say no to him and destroy all the beautiful treasures of life. It's our decision.
This is an exquisite interpretation of Koyaanisqtsi, your use of mirror-image clips was breathtaking. I'd love to see what you could do with the entire piece.....1hour 7 minutes?
