  • "things could be worse,

like i could've moved here from nebraska,

in hopes of a big hollywood movie career ... the low and sweet orchestra

  • Silverlake~ Guitar Joe (RIP), cockfights, Bacchanalian bathroom orgies, cats everywhere, escaped parrots, old Kenneth Anger films, bodies buried in grand pianos and cocaine in fishbowls, theosophical grandmothers in mens clothes, driving uphill backwards high on DMT, sun dying Golden Light, contaminated reservoir, tinfoil channeling, cholos and queers intermingling, Rod Mckuen w/ the head of Phil Specter, houses falling off hills, dead cowboy heroes high on speed........

  • wtf? hehe

  • so then what's your point? out of all the comments written, why'd you respond to mine? I don't need to prove my "roots" to anyone by the way homie. Think before you respond.

  • @richp60 That is heavy picture you are painting there man! I dig it. I am picturing it in my head it to be an October or November warm L.A. evening in 1977 as the sun sets and turns the sky into an orgasmic purple-orange and golden yellow.

  • what about crazy walking man.?? or the hot dog lady by the fountain.

  • i've lived here my whole 26 years and i can't agree any more with what bluelotus said! it's always been an original and independent community of families, artists and small business. Today i walk in to most places and don't feel at home anymore!! we're being invaded by trendy posers with their tacky hollywood wannabe clothing! please move further down to hollywood! thank you!

p.s all you posers from the cha cha lounge stop parking on my street!!!!!!lol

  • Silver Lake rocks! I'm subscribbing.

  • how could they not show the most famous bum in silverlake crazy joe

  • Guitar Joe would play and play outside all day in front of that church off of Sunset Blvd. He wouldn't be allowed inside the Silverlake Lounge yet he was more talented in a raw untrained way then alot of the "indie" music that dulled the vibe from the weekend Mexican tranny nights. Guitar Joe would not shout down the Centimeters but took pleasure and delight in being rambunctious to every Tampon commercial sounding band.

  • Silver Lake is the BEST place to live-visit in L.A... we're obsessed!

  • how cool! i like silverlake.

  • They didn't show the 99 cent store or the cat lady or any odd old people.

Where's the haunted cabin by the lake????

No mention of the magacians community or the Free Clinic>>>???

  • My husband and I are old odd people of Silver Lake. Come take a look!

  • from 5:35 forward is really nice. It brings back memories of walking around the lake at night with my high school sweetheart. Hi CynthiA

  • from john marshall high school right?

  • wow over 8 minutes on Silverlake and not a mention of Neutra or Schindler.....

is this an advertisement for that Casbah place? it stinks in there.

  • thats funny seeing the dogpark. good vid from your neighbor around the way in ktown. i want to do a vid of my town...but i wonder if people will get mad, if i dont have a korean tell about the town...jk

  • Really enjoyed that.

Haven't managed to get back to LA in a while...this reminded me of why I like the place so much & was just like going back for a few minutes.

I liked the way that woman spoke about Silver Lake.

    Great video!

  • Silverlake isn't just the area around Sunset Junction and the reservoir...and why pick that lady to speak on behalf of the neighborhood and not a latino person who's probably lived here his whole life?

  • I was actually focusing on the sunset junction area, not so much silver lake as a whole. For the project, I had to focus on a small area, not a neighborhood. I should have been clear on that with the title and description. I should have taken more into account though. Thanks for the feedback.

  • I grew up in Sunset Junction. It's so obvious to me that people like the lady in the video come from a background of wealth and the "uniqueness" they think they're "preserving", they're actually "depleting". Just look at the lofts that are being built on Myra. It looks to me like another case of the rich people pushing out the poor indigenous people out of the neighborhood to me.

  • Yea, I grew up in the Echo Park/Silverlake area...I'm now 32 years old..and my memories of it were that it was MOSTLY LATINOS living here....and, yes...lots of gay folks here too, like my tio frank (uncle Frank). None of my 'white' friends wanted to come visit me here....EVER...they were scared....I never understood why. My 'barrio' was effin' amazin' back then...

  • Yes..it was and will ALWAYS BE a LATINO/CHICANO COMMUNITY...I AM SO UPSET THAT THESE WHITE, UPPER CLASS FOLKS HAVE COME IN TO BUY US OUT...to steal what they WANT...GENTRIFICATION!!!

  • I have the best memories!! My family are musicians and we would always have a community get to together...at our house...everyone jammin' on tamborines, guitars, flutes etc....AND, NOW..ALL THESE WANNA BE ROCK STARS THINK IT'S COOL TO LIVE HERE...IT ISN'T 'COOL'...IT'S MY BARRIO!!! IT'S OUR HOME!!! Thanx for ruinin' it and making it TRENDY...

  • everything you said is funny cause it's true. there was a time when no whites would come down to siler lake cause it was a mexican/filipino area. the gay community was always there, but they mainly kicked in the middle of town and near los feliz. man, i love going there especially for the sunset junction in august.

  • Bluelotus03, it's fine to be against gentrification, but you should shut up with that anti-white racist BULLSHT.

LA has millions of people of every race from all over the world living shoulder to shoulder. If we're going to get along and have fun together you gotta shut up with that RACIST crap. You can not like gentrification without bringing race into it.

Native latinos who are bigoted racists suck as much as trendy whites who move here from the midwest.

  • Are the new residents of silverlake really trying to learn and get along with the residents who have been here for ages? I really don't think so. They're just driving up rent prices and I've lived in silverlake all my life and I am a person of color and have actually been treated by these "new" locals like I've just arrived. It's just bullshit. The bigotry isn't coming from the people that are local, it's from the people who have gentrified the neighborhood who happen to be white, case closed.

  • do you live here? didnt think so.

  • I was born here in 1975 at Kaiser Permanente on Sunset. And you? This should be interesting.

  • born at glendale adventist my self lived on silver ridge behind ralphs in silverlake all my life.. so like 20 years hehe

  • Thank you. That was beautiful! I love Silver Lake!

  • Nice vid neighbor!
