Jercarp55, from NYC to a mile high ghost town on a mountainside in Arizona, Eno's "little web" caught a generation of dreamers and carried us to that same ship, sailing away.
To read his interviews, he seems to have weathered it all in surprisingly good shape. It's comforting to know that some people learned from the disasters of early Rock and set a different course.
You did a spectacular job with this video. Every image you put up really captures the flow of, not only the lyrics to "Spider And I", but matches up with plenty of other Eno songs as well. I especially like the image of the ship passing away and the one showing the stars in the night sky. Excellent job!
This song is a lullaby i used to sing to my daughters Drugs not required, anyone can close his/her eyes and watch as the Gates of Heaven slowly open. One of BE's most brilliant records.
In 1977, while the Sex Pistols and The Clash aimed at turning British society upside down, Brian Eno made his audience dream with this stunningly beautiful piece of music. One of the peaks on Before & After Science!
Thanks for posting a great song - an old favourite. A lot of the images were great - some a bit over coloured. (Gilding lilies etc.) And a cross fade transition would be more gentle. But good, thanks!
I moved to NYC in '78 with $150, a small trunk of clothes, and my guitar. My pal Roy wore white go-go boots, fur, and had a Fender guitar strapped to his back when he helped me up the 6 flights . He took in stray cats, and had just bought this LP. I had no means except for my guitar, and Roy. This song played forever on that crappy record player and I dreamed my dreams.
Roy is now a staff writer for The Village Voice, and I have a white picket fence on the edge of my property in Pa.
@TreborRebore Thank you! I hate when punks say the same thing about Pink Floyd. Sure, it's great to experience the music high, but it's just as fantastic without being stoned.
Stoned is nice...but I remember when this album came out, listening to this track under the influence of some fine acid, through headphones, in a comfortable chair, in a room with some very close "fellow travellers." This beautiful, yet simple & childlike song does indeed take you on quite an inner journey to the most glorious & shimmering reaches of infinity...the keyboard fadeout seems to go on forever, and in a beautiful way. My favorite Eno track of all time. Happy Birthday, Brian!
Wow! I haven't heard this since 1983! That summer, I was painting address numbers on curbs. I painted around 250 house numbers a day! I would listen to this driving to / from work. Thanks!
The song and the video are absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sending me this video! Gorgeous.
