We make these in Puerto Rico where I'm from too. I dip mine in heavily salted water after pressing them then fry them a second time. They come out salted and are ready to eat. Note they are easier to press when hot and are best eaten right away. This is a great country!
frying unripened plantain is such a shame. If you don't wait until the plantain is at least covered in black spots, when you fry them they won't taste as sweet.
Good recipe for platanos. I prefer to cut them a little thicker and use salt/pepper/garlic powder. Dip them in Italian salad dressing + touch of ketchup, and bingo!
And yes, for those who have not eaten these before, it would be best if you use more ripened platanos. They are naturally sweet and have more flavor.
i like to fry mine yellow, lightly brown and crispy on the outside (seasoned w/ salt), and soft and yellow on the inside (with the salt bringing out the natural sweetness of the plantain).
lol are you for real. my mother is a cook and there is a better way to cut the pill off.. im going to put it on my channel maybe tomorrow lol. please soak it in salt water and or even garlic water first comes out better that way
you should put them in a seasoned water before you fry it the secong time and that dip gptta go!!!take it from a west indian thats not the way to do it...
I agree with u, food, and clari. He don't need to dress them up so much. It taste much better when you just sit them for a while and salted water and fry em, then press em and fry em again. Simple is better! You don't need to do all that crap!
Its not a banana its a plaintian. And they don't turn yellow they turn dark when they ripe. Google Plaintain. Learn it, then when you speak your educated on the subject:)
and it you want to get technical as far as 'how to say a thing' read what you wrote and find the missing comma. Then you too will be educated on a subject!
You shouldn't go around telling people how things are describe if you really don't know, or you just have 'some idea' as to the subject. You look like a regular American white girl. How could you possibly know how Caribbean people describe their food?
I really don't mean to be rude, But i didn't go around to you calling out racist comments, i didn't once even think of your color of your skin. I pride myself on not being rasist like most of the people around here that i know. And i know i don't look it but im grandpa was from puerto rico thats on my mothers side. I take my looks from my father. and i have lived in alabama my entire life. I cannot help i was born her. Its where my grandpa settled here.
I am pround on my background. The only reason i called out the plaintian thing is my grandfather just past. And he use to make them all ther time, but i wil not go into that anymore cause i'll be here all day so Yeah. Peace.
We call them plantains in Trinidad and Tobago and let them ripen before we cook them either we fry them or boil them. So for those of you who don't do fry you can boil them but they should be ripe. They are bright yellow inside and go from green to yellow to black when very ripe on the outside.
Guy, what in the world are you doing to those plantains? All I can say is wow....
