There's a part of me that wants to laugh but there's another part of me that's just blown away by her talent. Those melody lines are absolutely blissful aren't they?
wwwwoooooow! Thank you for uploading this video. I haven't watched this yet. I thought I did check almost all her earlier videos.. but still there are rare videos of Kate. Superb.
One little Kate Bush song like this contains more heart and genius than anything in the charts today. Pop music keeps pushing to the lowest common denominator, but Kate makes you realize it can (and should) be art.
@Stemax1960 Of course I understand the song - it's based on an older folk tune called the ballad of Lizzie Wan - it's a suicide note written by a young girl after she discovers she's become pregnant by her brother. Great art can still be dark and thought-provoking ... in fact, it should be! I still stand by what I said, it's got more heart and genius than anything playing today.
@bingobastard Unfortunately, so few people DO listen to the lyrics of songs. What your original comment said tells me that you DO listen to the lyrics to songs. I respect you for that. Another song which springs to mind is Excerpt From A Teenage Opera by Keith West. Those lyrics have a hidden message if you listen carefully to them. Basically, don't take people for granted. As I stated, I respect you. I am also grateful to you for mentioning Lizzie Wan. That was something I didn't know.
So simple, so perfect. Kate's performance, facial expressions and subtle movements just make you feel the music and the emotion of the song/story. It seemed like everything she touched in this period turned to art.
Such a creative talent with a rare ability to bring theatre into songs. Magical, unique voice, and the songs sound as fresh today as when they were written over 30 years ago! Thanks for posting.
The song is about incest and an unwanted pregnancy as a result. . . "The kicking here inside/makes me leave you behind/no more under the quilts to keep you warm/your sister I was born/you must lose me like an arrow/shot into the killer storm
This still gives me goosebumps. I was 13 when this album came out, after the middle of the road mediochrity of most of the music of my childhood it was a revelation. I've loved her ever since. Thank you Kate for your amazing music & for inspiring me to read the Brontes...
TheWoodlandWitch I agree. If anyone prefers to watch a video of Susan Boyle or Jedward than Kate then they are idiots.
Still I would never watch a video on here of either Susan Boyle or Jedward.
But beautiful and one of a kind Kate, I will never get bored of your music. I always think that Kate Bush will have a core following of fans long after people have got bored of and forgotten people like Susan Boyle and Jedward etc...
wow. never seen this before. Bought this album when it came out and she's still the absolute best. 30 years later and still producing gobsmackingly stunning music - sky of honey as great as wuthering heights. Vive la kate!
I remember reading at the time that she had written some of the material on the Kick Inside album at the age of 16. I believe Man with the child in his eyes was one of those.
She wrote TMWTCIHE before the age of 16, she recorded it at Dave Gilmour's recording sessions (the version you hear on the album and single) when she was 15.... she was reportedly 13 or less when she wrote it.
The saddest thing about Kate is that she now looks back at her first two albums and cringes with embarrassment at what she was like back then. For me, these albums were the very reason I fell in love with her and her music in the first place. Stuff 'Aerial', I'll take 'Lionheart' every time...
Here is kate Bush in her most beautiful incarnation [she is an ethereal Goddess with that flowing peroxide mane] wailing her impossiblly high dulcet sopranist overtones to a deep lyrical cadence of lost love and suicide as she floats towards the mystic isle that is Avalon. To think that she produced masterpieces like this and 'Wuthering Heights' at the age of barely 19 beggars belief!
Stevie Nicks was beautiful but Kate Bush was even more beautiful.Stevie's voice was amazing but Kate's was even more amazing. These female singers are my two favorites.Kate is number one,Stevie is number two.
This is one of my favorite songs of all time...not JUST one of my fave Kate Bush songs [of which there are MANY], one of my fave SONGS! A former college classmate introduced me to her music in 1986, right after "Hounds Of Love"... I went out & bought her entire catalog! She is one of a kind...a kind we TRULY need MANY more of! If I ever DO see my former classmate again, I'll thank him for introducing me to this INCOMPARABLE artist! No one else approaches her utter beauty & brilliance!
This is such a sad song. It's really heart breaking but it's so subtle and wonderful. Amazing to think that even at such a young age she could write songs with such depth.
My parents used to remember seeing her when she was a little girl in the 1960's when she was about 5, near where they lived in Welling in Kent, she lived there too. Her father was a doctor.
how fantastic for your parents to see her !! ....they lived in Wickham road at "East Wickham Farm" and yes her dad was the doctor in the town Dr.Robert Bush who sadly passed away july last year a week before her B'day., poor kate she adored her dad , i love kate bush so much, she is just such a beautiful human being.
After all these years, when I hear Kate Bush sing, its like the first time, everytime. And I fall in love with her all over again... Such a fantastic treasure!
