  • I got into the Dubs much too late, indeed Ciaran passed away when I was a child, but I sorely regret not being born 10 or so years older. I would give anything to have seen him live in concert. I love all the Dubs, but Ciaran is my absolute favourite. And thats taking NOTHING away from Luke, Ronnie, Barney, John, Bobby Lynch (who had an amazing voice also), Jim McCann, Eamonn, Patsy, Sean or Paddy Reilly. To ME, Ciaran will be the Dubs

  • thank you very very much for the translation :-D

  • The Galway fishermen are sailing from the east with a fair wind

With the light of a bright moon in order to see the "jewel"

O welcome and acclaimed is she, my love

Dear to my soul, a thousand told, is Peggy Lettermore

  • I have Brid and I have Kate but Peggy is the best of all

Whichever man wins her hand, a lucky man he will be

O welcome and acclaimed is she, my love

Dear to my soul, a thousand told, is Peggy Lettermore

I sent a message west to her, that I would buy a large boat

She sent a message back to me that a medium sized sailing boat would do

O welcome and acclaimed is she, my love

Dear to my soul, a thousand told, is Peggy Lettermore

  • welcome and acclaimed is she, my love

Dear to my soul, a thousand told, is Peggy Lettermore

Rise up, dear Peggy and stand up on the height

Count all your cattle and make sure they're all there

O welcome and acclaimed is she, my love

Dear to my soul, a thousand told, is Peggy Lettermore

  • is there anywhere an English translation of the lyrics? i'm from croatia, and it's pretty obvious that i don't know Gaelic :-D and i would like to know what's the song about :-)

  • Tá Ciarán an fearr go hiontach agus agus an amhrán maith freisin

  • Tá brón orm a rá.. ní mhaith liom an leagan sin..

  • There used to be an amusing banjo version of this somwhere on youtube. Does anyone know where it's gone?

  • Ciaran Bourke was een echte Dub! :>

  • I know just what it was like for Ciaran. I had the same thing happen to me. Am nearly his age when he died and don't want to join him yet.

Ciaran can never really die though. All the great Irish men gone on before have his company now. Ciaran is very much alive in the Better Place. A beautiful man. Surely the pride of pride of Eirann.

  • Thanks so much for adding this one - Ciaran so suited singing in the Irish Gaelic.

    RIP Ciaran. Thinking of you.
