@SouthernProper45 Whenever you can find it at GunBroker and such, it goes from about $600 onwards, with original boxes and paperwork maybe around $900
@gradeAbra Hell no, an AMT Hardballer has a totally different design from a Desert Eagle, wich is way bigger and heavy, looks well... More powerful? Absolutely no... A DE can be chambered in .357 Mag, .41 Mag, .44 Mag, .440 Cor-Bon and .50AE, this Hardballer is in .45 ACP... A .357 Mag, the less powerful caliber available for the DE, is a bit more powerful than the .45 ACP... So no, DE wins hands down, either in power and gun's quality... Hardballer is a nice pistol though...
@MrAlucard222 why does anyone need such high caliber bullets when 1 shot from any gun is enough to kill a person? We don't use it to kill monster or zombie in real life you see.
@gradeAbra Yes, even the tiny .22 Long Rifle is enough to kill a person... In some countries, like America and others, pistols and revolvers are authorized for hunting and backup, so big calibers like .500S&W, .460S&W, .454 Casull and .50AE are necessary to stop a grizzly bear or bigger animals... On humans is simple overkill, you can shred and slash a person with a big caliber... Maybe in future a big zombie apocalypse happens on the earth, who knows! Well, the .22 is again enough on the head..
now all you need is a suit, a shaved head, a pair of leather shoes and some black gloves. oh and wait throw in a fiber wire too just in case, and you're all set!
@NIGHT2PWN Ha Ha! True. Perhaps, also a secretary named Diana. To tell you the truth, I cannot conceive a professional hit-man carrying two of these under a suit 24/7. I mean they are heavy as bricks, and they score a zero in the subtlety factor.
@gouruguay And the fact that you have replica written down the side of your guns, and the fact that I have AMT hardballer written down the side of mine...
@gouruguay a ruger might be the better alternative (also existing in the second part of the series) as there are 3 million+ of them and they really are lightweight. Problem tho is of course the .22 bullet, of which im not sure if it delivers the blow of any higher caliber hm. People survived multiple shots to the head from a .22 so that would really not neccesarily be my first choice.
No. You need a leather jacket, hair that sticks up, black gloves without the fingers being covered, Gargoyle ANSI classic sunglasses, boots, and an Austrian accent. And a Surefire laser sight.
@andreikamiKaze Well, in the late 70's AMT started producing these long slides for the competitive pistol shooting circuit. Back then (even now) a lot of target shooters used some form of the Colt 1911 for serious competition. Of course, most of these pistols were heavily customized that yielded outstanding performance levels. In the golden days of AMT, the Hardballer Longslide could boast as being one of only two guns that were competitive "out-of-the box", the other being the Cold Gold Cup.
Power, if expressed as muzzle energy, would be dependent on a variety of factors, including barrel length.
The longer slide would also mean a longer barrel. There may be more muzzle energy (assuming that is what you meant by power) with a longer barrel for a given cartridge.
i just got a boner. ive seen .45cal handguns from 1in barrel to 6in barrel. the 6in barrel was a moderate longslide 1911 which i though was cool but i never knew they went the extra mile and made them that long. thats roughly 10in right?
Arnold would be proud. Put an early 80's surefire laser sight and you can rock it Terminator 1 style. "Put the red dot where you want the bullet to go." Despite the fact that Terminators dont use their sights to aim, ever.
Gorgeous pistols! I'm 27 now, and have a pretty great gun collection, but have been lusting over long-slide 1911s since I was about 11 or 12 years old and saw "Stop or my Mom will Shoot." The one in that movie must have been a custom job, the idea has never left me alone. When I have the money, I will need not one but two. . Why? less recoil, I'd expect improved accuracy with a longer barrel, and of course the beautiful 1911 lines and curves are even longer
@SlickVega You are dead-on, the longer sight radius will give you an advantage in terms of misalignment, shaking, etc. And somewhat like the PPC pistols (not quite) the added barrel/slide weight also adds recoil moderation.
PS. Never seen that movie, but now I wanna rent it.
@TheEvilX338 Don't let the "gurus" of home defense that you read in the magazines, tell you what's better in your case. Some say that a 12ga pump shotgun is the best home defense weapon because of the spread, handling, reliability, etc. And this might be true, but a shotgun is much longer than any handgun including this one. I am particularly fond of snubbies for the home, small, don't jam, point-and-shoot, etc. But hey, if you want a RELIABLE longslide for home defense by all means get it.
@gouruguay I have a lot of guns and a good many hanguns everything from .40Cal's to 9mm to .38 specials. Yet if I am getting up in the middle of the night to check a noise it is always the same gun I grab. My 12 gauge Mossberg 500 with it's 18 inch barrel, loaded with 2 rounds of #7 birdshot and 3 rounds of #4 buck. The bird shot will not penetrate the plaster walls like a hndgun or rifle round will. I live with my wife and kids, I want no mstakes. At 20Ft #7 kills clean & not over penetrate.
@kevinwildcelt That's an excellent choice. A pump action shotgun is a tried-and-true home defense weapon. I, however, do prefer shorter weapons. It is not for everybody for sure but I like the fact that it can be stored away but be handy as well, and be out of reach for unintended hands. A .45 1911 with Glaser blue tip ammo is my preference.
@gouruguay No one cane ever deny that the 1911 is a manstopper. My concern is that single projectile will go through the interior walls of your house, maybe several and strike unintended targets. Hell the way they build houses today they may exit the exterior walls too. I heard far too many people say well I won't miss, well how about over penetrating the human body and God forbid hurting or killing a child in the next room. It happens. I prefer a safe, clean, kill but to each their own.
@kevinwildcelt You are absolutely right. In the confines of a home, ricocheting, over-penetration, etc. are big issues, no two ways about it. However, frangible rounds have come a long way. Glaser (the round I referred to earlier) makes a good safety slug, Extreme Shock USA makes another. These are good options for inside the house.
@SuperNoob200 That's a good question. The first time I got one of these I was bracing myself for one hell of a kick...you know à la Auto-5. That big slide coming at me was scary. But actually, the gun is so heavy that the recoil is so much softer and controllable than any other standard length 1911's. The same goes for the muzzle rise. The video doesn't show this because I was showboating one in each hand; but when you shoot one of these properly, you can shoot it all day.
@Robbaz Indeed. These were the first factory 1911 7" longslides ever produced. They were done by gunsmiths before then, usually by welding two government model frames but obviously they were expensive. I believe these were the brainchild of Harry Sanford, president and founder of AMT. Truly a brilliant designer.
@Robbaz well, you should think about watching umm.... THE TERMINATOR? from 1984? it's one of the guns he asks for (and then steals) from the gun store. "the .45 longslide, with laser sighting?"
Looking forward to the review. I do have a question though; I notice what looks like burn marks at the ends of the barrels; is that due to the ammo you used?
@Geistgein Yes, these were the last rounds out of a box of 100, so the end of the slide was accumulating burn and powder rings. I was using Federal Champion series 45 ACP 230 gr. I like this ammo, they are cheap, feed reliably but they do not burn clean.
@Geistgein Thank you, I haven't gotten into the Javelinas or even the Automags but I love these longslides. I am planning a comprehensive review of these and the very early Hardballers (Arcadia period) so stay tuned.

@andreikamiKaze
Advantages:
1. Greater sight radius for improved accuracy
2. Reduction in perceived recoil from additional weight
Disadvantages:
1. Heavier weight
2. Longer length is more cumbersome to handle and holster
