  • Very good...by the teacher "working the crowd" makes the class more personal instead of a teacher standing in the front like a potted plant....good work!

  • Woow! It is a great demo !! Well, I'm from Lima, Peru and I teach English in a Language Centre! ... I've never taught children but you do it incredibly !! Thumbs up ! :D

  • Id say this isnt typical of a normal class. You'd find the kids would be a lot more lively if it wasnt being watched. The fact that the camera is on people are taking pics means they know they have to behave. Id also imagine the teacher is a lot more stiff due to the same reasons.

  • I like that Robbie seems to be playing along with the children! He definitely looks to be in his element. I agree, I think a stuffy, corporate job would be a bad thing for him.

I have a master's degree in elementary education, but I don't have a teaching license or a TEFL certificate. Could I teach in Taiwan? Could I teach university students?

I studied Mandarin for 4 semesters. Not enough to be fluent, but it's a start. Chinese people say my pronunciation is very good.

  • Looks like you're doing a wonderful job. One question, though... hopefully this doesn't sound dumb... but I hope they know that others don't expect them to Low Five after "how are you?" Right?

  • Where do you get all these ideas? How do you figure out what you're going to do every lesson? I mean, you can't do something different everyday.

I'm going to teach in Korea soon and I'm so scared! I'm really not a creative person nor am I particularly eloquent. I'd say I'm "book smart" but not a great person to ask for explaining. LOL do I have hope? as long as I prepare meticulously for each lesson? I'm sooo scared, why is it just me who's nervous??

  • @phantomwaltz im a teen and i cant even engage a simple conversation with a friend, pretty weird huh?

  • Teaching english abroad is most often a scam .

  • Sorry to be random but i just noticed something, the boys should of won that because the girl wrote Thursday wrong at 4:14 which you gave the girls a point lol overall i think your doing such a great job and keep it up :)

  • @msbr00klyn01 she just missed the letter 's' and the boy wasnt only slow but confused 'thursdbay'?? typical boys!!

  • I think it'd be really hard to teach English to people who have not grown up speaking it, especially the higher level classes. Imagine just having to explain how to make things plural. "Well, students, to make a noun plural just add an "s" unless you're making mouse plural because that's actually mice or goose because that's geese"

  • It's not about if you can speak english better than the other person, it's about being a very enthusiastic and creative teacher. I have been with many teachers who have PHD's and cant teach at all. Motivation and people skills is very essential in becoming a proud teacher.

  • @dvillene Do you think any native speaker who has the passion for teaching could do something like this? I want to be an English teacher in Korea, I have a good degree and "books smarts." But I've always had issues with my shyness, I'm prone to stage fright and I'm not very eloquen either (at least not for a native speaker.) But I'm willing to plan each lession meticulously... I'm still so scared though

  • @phantomwaltz I was the same. I went to Taiwan and taught. You basically have to just jump in . Okay you will make a fool of yourself a lot but after a while you get better and more accustomed to it. Just remember the kids dont know how scared or worried you are they just see you as the teacher. Its 6 years later and im still loving teaching in Taiwan. If you want any adice you can message me on youtube :)

  • good work teacher!!! nice strategy...

@ for others to know...here in Thailand , Sunday is the start of the week...

  • good work teacher!!! nice strategy...

@ for others to kow...here in Thailand , Sunday is the start of the week...

  • why is Sunday First, Isn't Monday?

  • @cantokid both of them are right and here is a website that tell you way sunday is the first day of the week (cjvlang.com/Dow/SunMon.html) It like dinner (lunch) and tea (dinner). When you are little you think the three meal are breakfast, dinner and tea not breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  • @MrStarbucks18 Thanks! got it :

  • Some of this stuff is exactly what we do in French class, like at 3:34.

  • at my school I need a foreign credit I should go to japan just for this class I would ace it lol

  • The girls got a point although she wrote "thursday" wrong. XD

  • if this is like my french class they must be bored shitless ._.

  • awesome work can i ask do u need a degree to teach english in japan or as long as you know english its ok?

  • You do need a teaching certificate.

  • @brandonhu What minimum qualifications do you need to teach in Japan?

  • @brandonhu

what certificate do you need specifically? There are so many TEFL and TESOL course I was wondering which ones were better to get than others?

  • @n0184293 The worldwide standard for TEFL certification is 100 hours of academic coursework and 6 hours of practicum (student teaching and observation). One of the best TEFL schools worldwide is International TEFL Academy (International TEFL Academy dot com)

  • @lust4anime lol the last card wasnt pulled you forgot sunday hahahaha

  • @lust4anime In most places in Japan you do need a degree. I've been looking into it but, as I don't have a degree, I'm now looking back at China. I've already worked there had a lovely time. You just need a TEFL certificate that is universally recognised.

  • Wow, we did this in French Class!

The teacher would go around , and ask us "Comment ca va?"

and we would say "ca va bien, et toi?" or something. xD

  • haha. your a gode teacher...wish my German teacher would be like you. 've had German for 4 years and I can not say a complete sentence.

  • i can speak English and French! schools Gona teach me Spainish!

  • i think it would be funny if we chinese-american teach english over at China.

  • Have you ever had a Foreign Teacher in America and thinking that you are going to get an easy grade?

  • Teaching and your actions are not OK for Thai schools mate... Im not mentioning your clothes

    my score for you: 55555555555555

  • i think they pronounced the words wrong, it should be "-di" not "-dei"

  • the teacher look like going to break your brain..

  • im 13 years old

and i think to know more english that u

u guys r in this page

    why u dont know english

my tongue native is spanish lol

koolked96 u english is awfull lol XD

  • @richardgb1000 Actually, there is nothing wrong with his English. In fact, his English is a lot better than your english. You are gramatically inept, and therefore shouldn't be criticizing the capabilities of other people.

  • @richardgb1000 :D urs too :D better for u : dont show ur english again from that side :D

  • Um can anyone tell me how old these children are please? I'm thinking of using this clip for a uni assignment and would be interested to know. Thanks!

  • Hmm I'm British and I think of Monday as the beginning of the week - it probably says Sunday first on calendars but I think to most people Sunday is definitely part of the weekend =)

  • @Hayley2653 I'm from europe and i definitely think of monday as the first day of the week... when i first heard it was sunday i thought it was a joke ;)

  • hay quá

  • I love you!

  • Why does he start with Sunday??

  • @simon44 Nearly every place in the world starts their week with Sunday... I think America is the only nation that starts the week on Monday.... although I may be wrong about that part

  • @bassist274 All of europe starts the week on a monday anyway. I know that because I've lived and I am living in a european country. Sunday is a rest day for most I thought.

  • @bassist274 oh... well, i guess my spanish teacher was an idiot after all lol... Sorry about my.... ignorant statement

  • Where do you get your teaching ideas from? Your classes look pretty good!

  • Demo teaching for a public school job? No way! I'd expect that for a cram school or private school. It's actually illegal in Taiwan.

  • The kids are learning something and participating. Kudos to the teacher. Everyone has a different teaching style. Whatever works for you, use it. It is not easy to teach a class of non-native speakers.

  • LOL That's how we looked like in Spanish class XD

  • those are sweeteharts , my students are restless all the time! thanks for this post!I like it.

  • you really good...

  • he has a really nice way of getting the kids to participate and make learning fun. Regardless of his level of English, he has a good technique. KUDOS from someone with a TEFL degree. You gotta start somewhere!

  • omg this is exactly what i want to do. most likely with spanish or japanese. can't really decide lol. but thank you so much for putting this on here :D

  • I want to go there and just dominate the class.

  • Thanks for posting this video...I am hoping to teach in English in 2012

  • the children are behaved........

  • yh it is funny how the chinese have english teacher that cant even speak proper english its more like chinglish cause its chinese heavy accent mixed in with speaking english , also people who speak like that are very hard to understand in english!

  • Excellent post, you are a good teacher. Thanks for uploading this video.

  • cool nice vid

  • just to educate u alittle, ummmm omarisquin.... the language english is from england, not america.

  • that's probably because of the rolling cameras :D

  • I found some good teaching material.

Google "Ferd'nand". These are comics without words. First I have he students describe what's happening and practice structures such as the subjunctive. Then I have them role play the situation. The result has been very good.

  • The best way to learn English is from native American people, That is the way to go.

I'm Mexican and I live in the US, I've talked to a lot of people from other countries, and sometimes I'm now able to understand what they say. But I do understand Native Americans 100%

    I'ts just the accent.

Non Natives have accent, and that confuses the pronunciation.

I wouldn't take English classes from Non natives, no way!!! and believe me, I'm not racist. Just that I don't want to end up talking funny.

  • How come non-native speakers with a certification don't get a job and employers prefer native over non-native even though, natives don't have a clue about their own grammar?

  • That's a pretty serious generalization if you think native english speakers don't know their grammar. Of course there's always the large handful of idiots. An educated native speaker has a much deeper knowledge of their language than a non-native. Speaking a language from birth ingrains speech and phrases into the brain.

  • Most schools understand that more business opportunities come from having smooth fluency and pronunciation rather than perfect grammar.

It's just the way they "look up" to America so heavily.

Even though "most" Americans may "not have a clue about their own grammar," the people going overseas to teach English usually do because of the TEFL certification - they are probably more intelligent on the average, also.

  • White people are corrupted because this man happens to be white and is expanding children's minds with language? Get the fuck out.

  • Wow you're so ignorant. If you took the time to look at my channel I joined over a year ago, so you might think I've change my taste in music a little? And really, what does music have to do with this argument? It's completely irrelevant, probably because you have nothing better to say. I'd say YOU'RE the bully and YOU'RE a prick. Not to mention a completely blind racist. I'm not even going to argue anymore, so send me as much shitty replies you want, because I won't reply back.

    Ta ta!~

  • white people aren't corrupt racist idiot . You the only one corrupt around here and your not white. Thank god we don't have stupid narrow minded retards like you teaching these children. With all this jajaja nonsense wanna be gangsta . Take your hate of white's elsewhere because it doesn't work on the chinese, japanese ,koreans.

  • @XiloveKoRnX wow. this coming from a guy who loves KoRn, a band of all white guys... stfu.

  • @sewinghippie

LMFAO did you even read through my entire comment? And seriously, telling me to sfu when I posted that comment over 2 MONTHS ago makes it even funnier. I replied to a person who was trash talking about whites. I hate racists, whether it be against black, asians, whites, whatever the skin color.

Sorry that I'm replying even though you told me to stfu. I couldn't resist informing you my opinion on this discontinued arguement, if that made much sense.

    :p

  • I going to a ELS sensei in nihon someday! and I will talk to them in Japanese !! If the kids all ready undrestand him the don't even need to be there gosh!

  • that looks like fun! I wanna plan lol ^^ I thinks it's cool how they can understand his english instructions :)

  • must be hard for them to learn english since they have the accent of their mother tongue and the languages are completely different from each other

  • Actually, since they're starting so young, they'll have the advantage of knowing how to pronounce the letter 'r' (for example) better than most Japanese.

When they were simply saying the days of the week you could notice they were doing a good job, I've heard far worst from adults. I'm not blaming them, since starting later just makes that more complicated.

  • Ah this is in Taiwan, my mistake. But it's the same situation (don't know if it's also r sounding like l though).

  • this is great! I bet these kids learned really fast

  • its not speed its how well you understand what ur learning

  • Hi there,

I teach in Japan at the moment, and think this is a great game/production activity. Hope you don`t mind if I use it in my classes - `SpeedSpell`.

I think casual observers may over-analyse, but the fact is that kids of this age just need to have fun with English, and those kids are definately having fun, so great job!

    A.

  • so cute! .. this is the job I want

  • I would love to teach English in Japan. I think it would be a challenging, but very rewarding and fun experience!

  • cheapy D~!

  • LOL

  • Go girls Go

    cute class

    -gambrooo sensay - ^_^

  • nice job teacher, i am a teacher in bkk, in a govt school, not an easy job, over crowded classes and minimal resources. Hats off to this ajarn

  • Not good. Repetitve without meaningful production. Even with beginners one can do so much more. Little effort to correct the utterances of the children - even the most EVIDENT errors. This is a prime example of what foreign language teaching should NOT be like. And let's not even talk about the silly high fives. If you're going to do them, they should be enthusiastic and vibrant - cheerful. These hand gestures looked unwilling, contrived and void of interest. Two thumbs down!

  • Agreed to the fact that he could show more enthusiasm and be more cheerful...

  • Congratulations. Good work. Well done!

  • i live in israel and we have a russian teacher teaching us english........... its a miricale that we still have some kids like me who speak, read, and write fluently and corrctly

  • and corrctly :)

  • Yeah i hate how they make teachers who barely speak english teach english

i can speak better english than my teacher

  • @Koolked96 yeah, me too.

  • @Koolked96 I understand your frustration. I used to think the same about English teachers in my country, but the fact that you can speak it well does not mean you know all the gramar and it does not mean that you are capable of teaching, there are courses you need to take and certifications that actually qualify you to teach a foreing language. In most countries they focus on teaching the gramar rules rather than speaking. There are private schools hire native speakers but they are expensive

  • interesting- looks like you and the kids are really enjoying the lesson.

quick question- as language is only really 'language' when it takes on a social meaning, how could someone teach low level EFL learners in a way that encourages authentic language production? i don't think it's impossible but it seems really difficult

  • not bad....other strategies could have been used under this subject mater to cater the individual needs of the learners...and to well manage a big class like this, too.

  • good method of teaching :-D

  • i'd ace that class ;) ha ha

  • Them Taiwan kids own at English.w00t.

  • how do you teach in english if they cant understand it.

  • If you study a language when you're a kid it's easier to understand but sometimes when you don't get a word (or whatever) you can always ask what the other person meant on your own language :). Simple like that.

  • no taiwanese only chinese

  • LOL. you should've made them say Encyclopedia or revolution

something they cant pronounce. i would of did it 4 the LULZ

  • I like it. Good job. I will finish college in December and head to Japan to teach. I can't wait.

  • I have used this clip with my TESOL teacher trainees (in their undergraduate university courses), as an example of a good second language lesson and a good second language teacher.

  • The clip was taken almost two years ago.

I put the clip on the Youtube as a reference for those who want to teach English as ESL.

And about the teaching techniques, you can judge it yourself.

  • Hi! I've been teaching 6 years in China! Your games are not that bad but I'd like to see more. Though those games are not new ones... Better have the kids write the word like > one letter one kid it will make the class less boring and more active. We can see in the video that the kids in the back are chatting.

  • @brandonhu are you still teaching there ? The only reason why I ask I have just qualified as a teacher and I am looking to go to China

  • You said that on the other one....lol

  • @Davidarchthiessen Are you a fucking retard? I am starting a new job teaching English, and this video is a great reference. I hope you are more mature since posting this idiotic comment.

  • @hellfireyoutoob Agreed!!

  • You should search "teacherross" for real teaching.

  • Taiwanese kids!

  • they're Taiwanese..

  • their pronounciation make them chinese

  • sh3zz (4 days ago) Show Hide 0 Marked as spam Reply | Spam their pronounciation make them chinese

answer: wrong. IT'S SINGLISH - SPRINKLING OF SOME CHINESE AND MIXTURE OF SOME ARCHIAC ENGLISH.

  • I'm sorry to burst everybody's bubble but these kids are not Japanese. First, they don't look Japanese and second, the writing in the description of the video is Chinese.

  • there handwriting isn't perfect but neither is mine =D i'm impressed

  • he is just sauntering and walking around. not much teaching. like a day out in a covered beach with fellow sun bathers.

  • He is actually teaching very well. When I took French and German in high-school we'd play these kind of games and it made learning a lot more fun.

  • KateLove21 (2 hours ago) Show Hide 0 Marked as spam Reply | Spam He is actually teaching very well. When I took French and German in high-school we'd play these kind of games and it made learning a lot more fun.

answer: Chinese accented English. Like Patois. Contains lots of impurities.

  • was this a private or public school?

  • great reinforcement activities. i truly believe that the classrom is a good laboratory of language activities created by the teacher...this will improve retention of the lesson learned for the day. keep up the good work!

  • Terrible.

Way to waste the time of every other student other than the one who is just using what he has already learned.

  • He's probably being observed in a class where there's a teacher at the back of the classroom. =P

  • great work , just one question, how do you make them so calm ???

  • theyre japanese. they learn respect at a young age.

  • uhh, gotta disagree with that. Japanese kids are no different than other kids around the world. You have your good ones and you have your naughty ones.

  • Rocko321, yea, pretty much.

  • You are doing an excellent job here. I wish I'd been half as good a teacher as you are.

  • Good job?

  • Nice job

  • this is great! i'm working on my degree, and when im finished my plan is to teach in japan! :)

  • hummm I like this video. U did a great job in this class very motivated and the students seemed that liked it. I would add and give them some candies after the tasks. The mostly students love to win candies after a well done job. Have you more videos like this? I would like to talk to you.I teach English here in Brazil also.let me know if u have interest to share experiences.

write to me greetings and hugs suzana/Brazil

  • very creative!
