wow great to see - my grandfather -Lee Gaeke and George Rouge built this railroad in 1962 - I worke on it when I was in college in the early 80's - Maud was the first locomotive and she came from a sugar plantation outside Havana - thanks for the cool movie
I truly wish I could remember Mill Race, although any trace of it in my mind appears to have vanished completely. However I do remember Pirate Ride. My first time ever at Cedar Point was on a cold rainy day in the summer of '91 when I was 6 so needless to say I'm bit of a youngling. Although it's still great to see these videos.
Thank you for the wonderful time down memory lane. I, too, "grew up" at Cedar Point. I've never seen video of the Stage Coach Ride, although I remember it well. I also remember being a "deputy" on the train and shot the train robbers at the end of the ride (that's why there are humans laying close to the train tracks in some of the video shots). Where have the years gone???
These were truly the best of times. The early sixties when things were so innocent. No violence either. I sure miss it. I live 90 miles from Cedar Point and I took my first love here so many, many years ago. "Wouldn't it be nice" was our song and this video makes me happy and sad at the same time. =*( You couldn't have timed the music any better i.e. at 1:00 when the Beach Boys chime in and that train is heading around the bend. Bravo!! Thanks for the memories and thanks for posting! Mark =D
THANK YOU!! I'm heading back for my 50th birthday, and this is exactly the sort of evidence of the era in which i visited ( more like 67, but.. The double ferris wheel!!
Perfection... that sums it up in one word.... I love them both so much, I'm only 28 so it was the 80's before I got a chance to see Cedar Point... by then there were already roller coasters... I love the fact that your grandfather captured the essence of what Cedar Point is.
Ok, I'm 47 years old! Grew up 40 minutes from Cedar Point, went there every summer! My own kids had season passes for years, but they never got to see the double ferris wheel, my personal favorite or the upside down fun house- remember that one? Grandma on the ceiling rocking with her cat!
The upside down funhouse rocked! It amazed me as a kid! That old WAS creepy! Didn't the cat's tail move just in time to avoid the rocker? Incredible fun. Is there anywhere I can find out more about that funhouse?
You're not the only one that remembers the funhouse. I was terrified of it when I was a child. I cried because my parents left me in there by myself and I had no idea how to get around inside it. I was lost inside. It's not there anylonger from what I read.
IM FROM TOLEDO OHIO AND LOVE Cedar Point and i wanted to thank you for shareing this with the world IM 39 YEARS OLD i love the old time films of Cedar Point its great thank you i will have to go back there this summer time and i love the songs too that you have pick for the video now i live in TENN by Knoxville
