Sometimes in this new age of techno texting we dont take the time to hear the wonderious stories of the elderly, our parents, granparents great aunts and uncles. They are a wealth of knowlege and wonderful stories.... if we only took the time.
Gotta love YouTube--this song popped into my head (I was reminded of it, believe it or not, by recalling a theme from John Williams HP music), giving me a strong yen to hear it...so I dropped by, hoping YT would have it--and of course they have several versions of "Wonderous Stories"! Glad I picked this one; its visuals are so magical and, well, "wondrous".
Um, comparing Rush and Yes is more like comparing dark chocolate to MILK chocolate maybe. I mean, progressive rock with extremely competent musicians (guitars in the case of Yes as a standout, bass in the case of Rush as the same)
They're not THAT dissimilar, frankly. I mean, compare the live version of The Trees/Xanadu on Exit Stage Left to live songs from Yes in the mid-70's and you'll see what I mean. Rush is a bit more Rock, Yes a bit more orchestral. Otherwise...
hi I love this song. I have many true stories you may not believe its about fallen angels and Jesus. There were many types of the fallen. it lasted for about 3 or 4 days.. back in march or april. The lord must have saved me. Holy Faced Men with Crowns.i cant talk about it right now. I was not scared at first, many different types came. some feared me or the faith or the name of Lord Jesus. Some fell to the ground and cried some just kept there distance, yeah the shadow ones. they instilledfrear
damn these guys were and still are very good, probably the second best progressive rock band of all time, course no one can surpass Rush, I'm sorry to say that to all die hard Yes fans. Don't take me wrong, love Yes but it takes them 5 guys to make their sound and it takes rush only 3, which is amazing!!!!
@IwanttoliveinParis realize their music is quite different, and i wasn't comparing their music. Just saying that for a 3 piece band, no one can surpass Rush's sound.
@kylebossify I don't know a place for these particular works of art, but please search e.g with words "fantasygallery" and "beinart" I believe you can get hints to proceed to find exact style of art you are after :)
When YESSHOWS came out (w/ a live version of this) we listened to it all Winter right thru the Summer (and then some). My bro blew a fuse on his Fisher Studio Standard stereo during the peak of 'Gates' live cranked up to '11'
I tried lucy for the first time, the other day. things began to go sour at one point, and i began to quietly sing this song to myself. a journey to hell quickly became the most profound experience of my life.. hugs not drugs though, that was all hypothetical;)
I was a freshmen driving in a truck with some older boys who had put on Going For the One in their tape deck and it was like the first time I really heard music that spoke to my spirit. I ran out and bought this strange CD and had a bit of a Yes spell for the rest of high school. Strange because AC/DC and Judas Priest were the in bands (love them too) but I was happy just staying in this wondrous YES world I had discovered.
Thank you so much David. This has always been my favorite vision crafted by you. I bet Jon Anderson would be very happy with this if he ever saw/sees it. Just exquisite, ethereal, especially at 2:55 with the lovely lady fair reading her book surrounded by butterflies. So enchanting it gives me chills. More than beautiful & sublime. Thank you for re-posting this!

one tiny quibble with the lyrics, "or lands they were in his mind" should read "NOR lands they were in his mind."

I miss the stories from my grandfather...
I onced dismissed them as ramblings of an old man.
Now, as I age, I hear them, and I listen...
He knew much

The guy that thinks Rush is better than Yes needs to put down the pipe.
All the "other" bands wish they could find their Tales from Topographic Oceans.
