More than a year and a half later, someone FINALLY gets it. AND NOW I AM FREE TO SOUND MY OWN BARBARIC YAWP.
Thank you, thank you so much. The video description has completely served its true purpose now. (Psst-- if you've never seen it, I have a video of me reciting Meeks' lines from Dead Poets Society from, like, three years ago.)
I don't think he has, but if you search up "Tobolowsky" in the comments, you can hear what Ned Ryerson has to say about this! What godly men both of them are, though, right?
Stumbled across this while looking for new music, this is sublime. I have it on repeat for the past 24 hours and only wish there were more acoustic covers...do you happen to know of any? An orchestral version would be mind blowing. I also see references to a Back to the Future mashup, but can't seem to find it, any news on that? Anyway, loads of appreciation for this work of yours, I am blown away.
Woah-haow. Hey-- thank you SO very, very much. I'm really grateful that my music could become a great environment for people besides myself. -- And my mom actually did a brilliant cover of the "I Know Your Face So Well" segment. You can watch it by searching up "I Know Your Face So Well Bing". It should be the first result. Maybe some time in the future, I could do an orchestral version of this, since I'm an amateur musician! -- Also, go to the MP3 Download link of this to listen to Great Scott.
(cont.) I've been working on the vide'ro for a long time now-- you can see a sneak peek of it by watching my 100th video. (Hint: if you have trouble finding it, it's called My 100th Video and it has a big 100 as its preview picture.) Anywhichway, I'm extremely honoured to be the recipient of such a glorious comment. *tips imaginary hat* Have a vunderbar day, and beyond that, of course.
Man, you are a brilliant guy, you know that? It's definitely my aim to branch out the ideas behind what kinds of chord colorations are sampled what kinds of progressions are created in a remix. Thank you very much, monsieur.
Seriously guys, I'm not trying to endorse marijuana, but this song/video has become a STAPLE of what we have playing in the background when we smoke, its fucking genious bro.
And me and my other friend NetFlix'ed the movie all because we watched this...so trust me, you've done the GHD community justice :) keep doing what you do my man...."Stay True"
This is a grower. Upon first listen it just sorta sounds like a jumbled mess. It took a long time for this to end up among my favourite Pogo tributes. But it made it man! Can't stop listening to this atm.
Wowzah, monsieur! Congrat'est of elations, first off. *huge thumbs up* Hope ev'rything goes faaar more than swimmingly. Besides some seriously gaze-mazing people (but of course), the things that have changed me as a person are definitely the movies I hold dear to my heart. (... and replay to death!) The relationship of four years that I was in when I made this kind'a sort'a ended with her... dumping me. (Kind'a sort'a?) But we never got a chance to watch this together.
*cont.* I hope that some day in the future, I can share films like this-- which I feel taught me the selfless, unconditional, preternatural, undying nature of love, as well as the infinite worth of every day and every life-- with my true starry-eyed Someone. ... ANYWAY! Groundhog Day's an awesome choice, and I hope the date's magnificent. She watched it before?! *grins*
@HomeStarRunnerTron I'm sure you will find a girl who's as kind as you:) And yes, the date was a succes! (Though she didn't love Groundhog Day as much as I did) I'm going to see her again next week. I was so happy when I got back home, and when I saw that you replied to my comment my head just exploded from happiness. Since I know you read my comments now, I just wanna say: You're a real inspiring person, who makes great videos and music. Thanks for making my life even better:)
I used a trial version of Melodyne Studio for voices, and Melodyne Editor for chords! I then recorded it out of the trial version using Audio Hijack Pro. Heheh. And right now, I'm in-between editing two more remix videos--so much glorious sleep deprivation. But thank you so VERY much for zee' appreciation, m'luh'd! And I certainly hope that Kudos isn't fun-sized... it's been at least six years since I've had a Kudos bar. *froths at the mouth*
@HomeStarRunnerTron You deserve a mega-sized one! I mean, who else thought of the idea of remixing a movie and adding the credit-chords to it as well?!
Hey, don't cuss me out if you want me to release it. I've been working tirelessly over it. The remix is already out on Bandcamp-- and I shot a whole bunch of footage with an actual deLorean to utilize in my video for it. It'll be out by the end of the month, hopefully. And IT'S BEEN A YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
This makes me want to watch the film. I've actually listened to this song for about a week + now, it's just so addictive and emotionally powerful IMO. :)
This is my favorite remix from you, keep up the good work!
D'aaaw, thank you so VED'DY much, madame Cassandra! You probably already read my response to dpnlnu, but yeah-- this movie validates my existence, so I tried my best to musically contain a bit of its genius. PLEASE do watch it. And more than once. It's one of those movies that kind of becomes a life-long commitment of awesome.

@HomeStarRunnerTron I hear the movie does have a very truthful meaning behind it. When I find it, I totally will watch it. Also, I did indeed listen to Great Scott, it's absolutely fantastic! :)
So I watch this like once every month and I'm finally logged in so I can tell you that this absolutely brilliant. I'm a video editor too, so I can appreciate how hard this must be. And not only did you mix the audio, but you had all the video clips up as well. This is truly a masterful piece of work that not only pays homage to a fantastic movie, but creates a new art. You are so talented, and this is a lovely video. Thank you so much for sharing this with everyone.
Dude... wow.... that seriously is a fantastic peace of art.
People like Pogo and people that get inspired by him doing this amazing kind of audio visual art makes me enjoy music just so much more. It's so unique in a way. Thank you so much for putting 8 months of your life into this. It was more then worth it. Keep it up and keep surprising! :D
OMG! YOU DID THIS? You're a genius! This movie got me through some really rough times and holds a special place in my life. This is a great tribute to it. Thank you, and keep on keepin on HSRT!
I thank you so much. Because of this song I watched Groundhog Day and it changed my life. I realised that I have to live every day like it's my last. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I know exactly how you feel about Groundhog Day, monsieur. It truly changes my life every time I watch it, too. The first time through, I kind of was a little too absent-minded to fully understand its emotional depth. Then I watched it back in 5th Grade while I was feeling all sick and bedridden. The moment Phil bore his change-of-heart to Rita, I just had this, like, EPIPHANY.
I realized how one person can make someone as cynical of human nature as Phil (or sometimes, even myself) see the world for what it really is. I was a complete MESS of tears by the end. (How manly.) Since then, I've mirrored my own life after Phil-- not living to satisfy myself, but to derive a sense of worth by helping those around me and enjoy their company.
I made this 'mix in the hopes that I could share the masterpiece with those who haven't seen it yet. To hear someone say that makes the eight months all worthwhile, man.
@HomeStarRunnerTron Well, helping those around me does satisfy myself. There is nothing that gives me more joy than someone thanking me for my help and support. Even something small like you saying 'To hear someone say that makes the eight months all worthwile' makes my day. If everyone saw how much joy it gives to help and support people, (forgive my cheesyness) the world would be a better place.
After this, you can stop with the "I just love all things Pogo" talk, because you really came into your own here. This is just as good as anything I've seen in this style, and the your use of the Videosong angle to kinda follow the actual story makes it way more enjoyable than many. It's time to stop thinking of yourself as just an "adoring fan"and start thinking of yourself more as a "peer" (don't worry, peers can still be adoring fans of other peers!)
Pogo's music is good, but man if you can keep cranking out songs like this that have a "story" to them,, so much better.... I play this all the time, really cheers me up.
Of course not! We know he wasn't the first one to remix a movie-- and the like. But he's the one that inspired all of us visual-audiophiles to DO this sort of stuff. *grins and foams at the mouth vivaciously* His stuff is truly inspired, inimitable, high-end emotional musical art. He isn't the first, surely, but he's the springboard was plenty of us geekwads.
@HomeStarRunnerTron If you're speaking on behalf of the majority, then that following must of been confined to YouTube, as I've been working in this field for 20-odd years, before the access of Apps, to an extent of dual video-cassette decks and a lot of coffee!
Ur-- I'm not saying we never saw anything LIKE what Pogo was doing until he came along. I'm certain we all have-- they've played on TV as advertisement for quite some time, and bands like The Avalanches is quite close to this art. But Pogo is remarkably different in aesthetic to plenty of the things we'd seen prior. His mixes are purely based on SOUND. It doesn't matter whether or not they have any coherence of thought in what lines are mixed.
It's a vocalise of split-second syllables of noise. It's not looking to be particularly recognizable little quotes or riffs put to a consistent rhythm. Sometimes, it is, but PRIMARILY, what Pogo does is take EXTREMELY small pieces of things if only but to EVOKE some sort of feeling the thing he's sampling has and AMPLIFIES it. It's, like, an impressionistic painting of sound. Like -- looking at your stuff, it's VERY good-- but it's NOTHING like Pogo's stuff, except for the VERY basic idea.
@HomeStarRunnerTron I'm fully aware how these are compiled; having worked with, on and been through the Apps involved, with equipment especially designed for us by sponsors involved. My/Our AV's are actually made by the visuals portrayed. Pogo's work is actually an old Melody method we did back in Exceeda early 90's -- Beginning with 2 or 4 consecutive time-lines, only to be looped another session. Audio tuning which fixates around the Chord matching opposed to the Visual synchronisation.
Well, I can safely say as a child of the 90s that I have never, ever heard anything like Pogo while growing up. Could you tell me where to find some? *clasps hands* Absolutely would love to hear some work of the like!
Also, I'm not quite sure we're seeing this from the same point of view. I'm looking at this from an artistic perspective. You just seem concerned with the technical aspect of it.
@HomeStarRunnerTron Well, you should consider within you're 19 years; something of this agenda wouldn't be something you'd otherwise search of, nor hear of, because YT only just put this into the mainstream
Earlier you stated this was "purely based on SOUND", but now claim to see this from the Artistic POV. In this genre, those can't be anything else except the same, *including the technicality, and my point was exactly that- Chord auto-tuning, melody out of visual, or "Pogo's style", it's not.
ROFFLE... I feel like I'm in cross-fire in speech. You won, I guess. Because I really hate Debate. (And actually, 17 years. I haven't even graduated highschool yet. Which contributes to so much more of my ignorance... AHDUR.)
@YTCENS0R No, he didn't invite this style... but I would say he is the standard now. While there are some nice songs out there that are of the same style, Pogo's work is incredibly moving. He is just the best at it.
@YTCENS0R - This is a different approach from what Pogo makes, more in the vein of the Jack Conte videosong where you're watching the sonic clips as they're used, but that does not make it 'more impressive', just a different approach.
How much of pogo's work have you actually watched? Your description does not match the ones I've seen. As has been stated his approach is more emotional/impressionistic that 1:1 literal.
I don't care if YTCENS0R's opinion doesn't change from your comment, but thank you SO VED'DY much for trying to explain it to him, monsieur Robert. The ethereal experience of Pogo synco-phonics MUST be embracéd by all.
Yours were one of the first "Pogo Tribute" vids I watched. I've watched quite a few. When Bill says "I know your face so well"... that is the only part of a "Pogo Tribute" that has managed to produce those tears. You sir, truly do the Pogo tradition justice. Thank you ve'ddy much. And keep it up. :)
I've seen so many other people put together videos akin to Pogo's. But the thing is that really draws me to Pogo, is his are the only ones that have actually brought me to tears. Especially his "Wishery" one. Every time Snow White goes to the well in that video & says "I'm wishing...". Just typing that and remembering that part brought a tear. [continued]
Heh. No, I'm just a really slow worker. My first remix POGO-style was done quite a few months before this. All my videos take months and months to make. In-fact, my next mix seems to be bordering on eight months of production, too. *twitches* But thank you so ved'dy much, anywho'm!
This video inspired me to rewatch Groundhog Day, and I had a fun time trying to pick out all the little audio samples that were used the remix. I really got a kick out of "I make the weather!".
Very good man!! i have seen alot of crapy edited clips that make no sense. This one is soooo cool, the voices match the tunes of the song and the beat is great.. Very good video..
FWIW, you have some talent. I could definitely see another Pogo in the making. Sure talent is innate but some people just need inspiration and Pogo may be just that for you.
These are the comments I make these videos for, man. Thank you so ved'dy, ved'dy much. *salutes back* The image alone is enough to make squishy glee fill my spirits to an elation beyond compare.
I loved it! Okay, first challenge up. Make a Pogo Tribute using episodes of Pocoyo. (english ones only, ok?) You can use any autotuning program, and the drums could or could not be Pocoyo.
I came here completely on the recommendation of Pogo.... l wasn't a huge fan of your upular lip sync so l was pretty sceptical... but mate... this is inspired!.. it's so whimsical and fun and intricate.... huge fan of this! Well done, and congrats of getting pogos attention! :)
I really have to complement you on this. You did a good remix and gave it feeling like Pogos videos. You and Remixluke have been able to get this. D!tto just can't seem to get these feelings that yours was able to.
Such as the "I like the weather!" with want you to hold me fading in the background brings so much essence. Plus, towards the end with "I know your face so well" as it's building up to that with the snow man face, it brings up chills.
It is pretty good, yet a bit too much. I mean there are too many different sounds playing simultaneously. You should find a way to have some sort of steady background music and fill it all up with a few sounds, which of course can vary, but over time.
If I ever wanted to make a bad comment about this video, I'd say this song has a strong sense of déja vu. But since it is not the case, I'll just say this is very unique and I love it.
Hey, didn't you already leave this comment here before?
No, but seriously, thank you so VED'DY much-- glad you enjoyed it, monsieur Dan. If you ever make any videos with you kicking yourself in the head, I'll watch out for them with much anticipation. Now THAT'S entertainment at its finest!
You're just the coolest person ever. Spoken from a totally objective point of you, you're creative and spastic in the most interesting of ways. I must try to find my own sound, eventually.
ROFFLE, what genius interpretation. I definitely hear where you're getting the second line from. It's actually Bing Crosby singing, "kiss your lip[s]". But if anyone has the right to be gettin' shawty, it's Mr. Crosby.
I e-mailed Mr.Tobolowsky -- Ned -- about this (he's got an e-mail address he made public in one particular spot on the Web), asking if he had seen it. His response: "LOL yes. I have recently seen this fine piece. I was amused and admired that it was probably the most rhythm I ever had."
And I love how this works a lot because of the...the way the movie is. The movie is like this, in a way. You know?

I thank you so much. Because of this song I watched Groundhog Day and it changed my life. I realised that I have to live every day like it's my last. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
dpnlnu 1 year ago 28
I know exactly how you feel about Groundhog Day, monsieur. It truly changes my life every time I watch it, too. The first time through, I kind of was a little too absent-minded to fully understand its emotional depth. Then I watched it back in 5th Grade while I was feeling all sick and bedridden. The moment Phil bore his change-of-heart to Rita, I just had this, like, EPIPHANY.
HomeStarRunnerTron 1 year ago
I realized how one person can make someone as cynical of human nature as Phil (or sometimes, even myself) see the world for what it really is. I was a complete MESS of tears by the end. (How manly.) Since then, I've mirrored my own life after Phil-- not living to satisfy myself, but to derive a sense of worth by helping those around me and enjoy their company.
HomeStarRunnerTron 1 year ago
I made this 'mix in the hopes that I could share the masterpiece with those who haven't seen it yet. To hear someone say that makes the eight months all worthwhile, man.
HomeStarRunnerTron 1 year ago
@HomeStarRunnerTron Well, helping those around me does satisfy myself. There is nothing that gives me more joy than someone thanking me for my help and support. Even something small like you saying 'To hear someone say that makes the eight months all worthwile' makes my day. If everyone saw how much joy it gives to help and support people, (forgive my cheesyness) the world would be a better place.

Wow. I mean... wow.

Question: Why do some of these mashups around get titled after 'Pogo'?
People don't actually think he pioneered Visual-audio, do they?
YTCENS0R 1 year ago
Of course not! We know he wasn't the first one to remix a movie-- and the like. But he's the one that inspired all of us visual-audiophiles to DO this sort of stuff. *grins and foams at the mouth vivaciously* His stuff is truly inspired, inimitable, high-end emotional musical art. He isn't the first, surely, but he's the springboard was plenty of us geekwads.
HomeStarRunnerTron 1 year ago
@HomeStarRunnerTron If you're speaking on behalf of the majority, then that following must of been confined to YouTube, as I've been working in this field for 20-odd years, before the access of Apps, to an extent of dual video-cassette decks and a lot of coffee!
YTCENS0R 1 year ago
Ur-- I'm not saying we never saw anything LIKE what Pogo was doing until he came along. I'm certain we all have-- they've played on TV as advertisement for quite some time, and bands like The Avalanches is quite close to this art. But Pogo is remarkably different in aesthetic to plenty of the things we'd seen prior. His mixes are purely based on SOUND. It doesn't matter whether or not they have any coherence of thought in what lines are mixed.
HomeStarRunnerTron 1 year ago
It's a vocalise of split-second syllables of noise. It's not looking to be particularly recognizable little quotes or riffs put to a consistent rhythm. Sometimes, it is, but PRIMARILY, what Pogo does is take EXTREMELY small pieces of things if only but to EVOKE some sort of feeling the thing he's sampling has and AMPLIFIES it. It's, like, an impressionistic painting of sound. Like -- looking at your stuff, it's VERY good-- but it's NOTHING like Pogo's stuff, except for the VERY basic idea.
HomeStarRunnerTron 1 year ago
@HomeStarRunnerTron I'm fully aware how these are compiled; having worked with, on and been through the Apps involved, with equipment especially designed for us by sponsors involved. My/Our AV's are actually made by the visuals portrayed. Pogo's work is actually an old Melody method we did back in Exceeda early 90's -- Beginning with 2 or 4 consecutive time-lines, only to be looped another session. Audio tuning which fixates around the Chord matching opposed to the Visual synchronisation.
YTCENS0R 1 year ago
Well, I can safely say as a child of the 90s that I have never, ever heard anything like Pogo while growing up. Could you tell me where to find some? *clasps hands* Absolutely would love to hear some work of the like!
Also, I'm not quite sure we're seeing this from the same point of view. I'm looking at this from an artistic perspective. You just seem concerned with the technical aspect of it.
HomeStarRunnerTron 1 year ago
@HomeStarRunnerTron Well, you should consider within you're 19 years; something of this agenda wouldn't be something you'd otherwise search of, nor hear of, because YT only just put this into the mainstream
Earlier you stated this was "purely based on SOUND", but now claim to see this from the Artistic POV. In this genre, those can't be anything else except the same, *including the technicality, and my point was exactly that- Chord auto-tuning, melody out of visual, or "Pogo's style", it's not.
YTCENS0R 1 year ago
ROFFLE... I feel like I'm in cross-fire in speech. You won, I guess. Because I really hate Debate. (And actually, 17 years. I haven't even graduated highschool yet. Which contributes to so much more of my ignorance... AHDUR.)
HomeStarRunnerTron 1 year ago

PlayHanghang 1 year ago 2
I don't care if YTCENS0R's opinion doesn't change from your comment, but thank you SO VED'DY much for trying to explain it to him, monsieur Robert. The ethereal experience of Pogo synco-phonics MUST be embracéd by all.

Yours were one of the first "Pogo Tribute" vids I watched. I've watched quite a few. When Bill says "I know your face so well"... that is the only part of a "Pogo Tribute" that has managed to produce those tears. You sir, truly do the Pogo tradition justice. Thank you ve'ddy much. And keep it up. :)
The ending is perfect.
Peace.

[continued]

Brilliant job.
taccun 1 year ago
It is pretty good, yet a bit too much. I mean there are too many different sounds playing simultaneously. You should find a way to have some sort of steady background music and fill it all up with a few sounds, which of course can vary, but over time.
