Thats not quitly right, on xbox you have some called gamertag are using to play and get gamescore, you could say achiments also. With that gamertag you have silver membership, and gold member ship. The diffrents about them is that, gold can access to online, in-game chat, or some features.

but the silver has not. So you have to pay a goldmember-card-shit! to redeem to your gamertag, to play online.

So ps3 has not a kindo of this gamertag system what xbox live has. Both of them is not free....
