  • i think we can all agree that these all of these guitars sound great

  • Julia is such a great song

  • So i have to go against the stream of OM lovers and say ... D-18 sounds warm and exciting!

The cosmetic look of the OM is nicer though ...

  • OM for the win. Killed the Dreadnaught

  • OM-42

  • 15 was the nicest sounding :)

  • Nice ....42 yep indeeed .....ya know they6 all sounded really good ,,,,peace

  • Didnt like the 15 18 was good 42 was the best

  • the 42 seemed to have the fullest tone

  • ugly, okay, sexy

  • D-18 for strumming heheeheheh

  • Nice, Bob!

    DL

  • I play 00-17 & SPJC-16 check out samples on iTunes look under ken mickey

  • The 00-15 does it for me. These all-mahogany 15 series Martins are just amazing.

  • Considering the diference in the price i have to say the 00-15 is amazing and so good-looking

  • To me 00-15 sounded better than OM-42. Nice warm sound.

  • OM-42

  • love my OM-42....!!! BEST OF ALL OF THEM..

CAME RIGHT OUT THE OVEN FROM NAZARETH, IT WAS HEADED TO EUROPE...BUT WAS SOLD TO ME

  • Клас, спасибо.

  • OM -42 is better

  • OM-42 i think, but its very hard to tell from a vid. But woow, i really like the look of it!

  • hands down it was the 5th guitar that sounded best there.

  • @Drafter3 umm are you on drugs?? there was only 3 guitars there STUPID!

  • @jcozzi9 yea i know that cool guy, it was just kind of a comment aimed at the fact that this is youtube, and how could you possibly judge the sound of three guitars based on youtube.. his mic and your speakers change the sound so much, it's useless to judge based on this vid.

  • @Drafter3 Not really, to a trained ear, a lot is told! I have been playing just over forty years. The warmths of each kind of wood, style and shape and craftmanship yielding each benefit of specific tonewoods is evident in even this basic vid. I just have a small subwoofer (power unit) and two puter speakers. But the fidelity gives each guitar its earned sound. Just my opinion and observation.

  • @Drafter3 not really his mic had good quality and it helps allot ur just being ignorant

  • @Drafter3 yeah, but i'm thinking it's really a toss up between the fourth and fifth guitar.

  • Taylors make good Firewood.........

  • @OleBlues ahahahah

  • I'd put my Taylor against those any day!

  • om-42 hands down winner here, likely the priciest and best spec'd among the 3 guitars too

  • The treble is so beautiful on the OM-42. The 00-15 seemingly sounded the most balanced, but not the sweetest. The D-18 didn't really do it for me.

  • check Lynchburg Music for awesome Martin guitar deals

This isnt spam this is just a heads up for guitar lovers like me who want a great deal

  • yeah man, it is the exact same picking pattern, just based around different chords.

  • This is a very usefull youtube. Anyone about to buy a Martin and doesn't knor diddly can choose his sound. I own a D15, warm and loud.

  • The guy in the music shop beside me has new strings on his tanglewoods and old ones on his martins and taylors because he makes more profit selling a tanglewood and it makes them sound better.

  • I owned an o-15 and d-18 ,,,my son took one and my daughter the other.

  • what was the first song?

  • The song is Julia, a Lennon song from the White Album. (Beatles in case you didn't know.)

  • great guitars! why does everyone think martin guitars are overpriced though? $2500 can get you a top of the line martin.... $2500 is a mid line taylor and the martins are much better sounding in my opinion.

  • Classic brittle but sturdy glass-like sonics...I play a Takamine because that's all I can afford and it seems to have those classic, brittle glassy sounds

  • yeah the 18

  • best is d 18

  • 00-15 sounds the beast the D18 sounds bad when strummed

the 0m was nice sounding but that one too didn't sound good when strummed but i"m a Gobsom man so It may be that I am use to the warming sounding guitars.

  • Nearly every Martin I've listened to sounds the same - a good sound if you like it , but lacking the tonal variety you can get with a comparable Gibson, Taylor, Lowden or Maton. Martins are overpriced for what they are in my opinion - you're paying 30% over the odds for the trademark.

  • Everything is overpriced except Cole Clark :)

  • es mejor la ultima aunque la clasica tiene un sonido mas original...

  • Logan: I seen his name BobLefty and thought he was lefthanded. As a lefthanded player I can alwasy hope.

  • 3 lefthanded Martins. Dude you have to much money lol.

  • he was probably using photobooth on his Mac which would make it appear that they are lefthanded.

  • om by far

  • they all sound alike

  • i like the om-42

  • me too the om-42 sounded the best

  • 00 15 the best !

  • defo

  • To me the D18 sounds more mellow with the richer bass sound. The OM42 treble sound seemed more dominant and the 0015 could be placed between the two as far as the sound.

  • Sounds like Julia from the Beatles

  • It is.

  • no es importante como lusca es importante como suena y para mi es mejor la D-18 =D

  • I'd have to go with the OM-42. Although they all sound great, the 42 has such a a warm sound and such rich overtones.

  • agreed

  • @MRBABAR I agree you have good hearing its the OM_42 for me to

  • @MRBABAR

Well clearly you fucking idiot, it's three times the price of the D-18...

  • Comment removed

  • @MRBABAR

It's built with far better wood and too a far higher standard. By saying, I have to go with the OM-42, you make it sound as if it is a tough decision. Perhaps comparing an OMJM with a Clapton signature or a D-42 with a Taylor 914ce would make for a much fairer comparison, but through this video we can clearly see that (in this case) the price clearly accounts for a higher quality.

Regardless of what you say, it is extremely find a 600 dollar guitar better than one that's 2 grand.

  • @Carthsgtr

I'm not going to debate you on the price and quality of guitars...anyone who would write a comment like your first one isn't worth debating. People like you who write mean spirited, unhelpful comments should not be allowed to comment. For what it is worth, I have quite a few Martins, and from experience I can tell you that price is NOT a consistent factor in the quality of the sound of a guitar.

  • @MRBABAR

I would say 80 percent of the time is pretty damn consistent. Give or take a grand or so in the cost of a guitar. Personally I would have thought 80 percent in most tests would be at least satisfactory. Yes, only a douchebag primarily considers a guitar by it's price, but they will generally be correct in doing so, like most things in this world.

I guess we shall have to agree to disagree though.

  • @MRBABAR

The cheaper Martins are very overpriced I find.

  • @Carthsgtr

You sound like the kind of person that everyone would just love to sit around with and discuss guitars. Thanks for the enlightining and insightful comment. You make this world a better place.

  • i think i like the 42. thanks.

  • nice vibs

  • om 42 is better

  • i think the 00-15 sounded the best. that julia picking pattern is awesome BTW.

  • Bought a Martin DM today, best freaking guitar i've ever played....Sounds better than a guitar that costs 5700 $

  • I do not know what cheap is too you but a 500 dollar martin beats a 200 dollar fender by a LOONG shot

  • the third one sounds like mixed 1 n 2

    1 is pure

    2 is clean

    3 both them

but it is all good guitars...

  • I liked the third one, amazing texture and clarity

  • that om-42 is really nice

  • nice comparison, you can really hear the difference! good video!

  • awesome man, I recently picked up and trying to learn guitar, I originally am a drummer but cant have drums in my condo, lol, what is the chords you are playing in this? I would love to try it

  • it sounds like a C/G (adding the g note on the first string) followed by a Csus2 and a Cmaj7.

he's got a few variations i can hear but thats the main part of it

  • its the beatles and the song is called julia if that helps

  • awesome, that does help alot! I will be on the ultimate-guitar site to get the tab for it, thanks bro.!

  • And also I would love to get the OM-42!, I love martin, taylor as well, right now I own a wasburn acoustic electric, jackson elecric and an ibanez ex series, Im used to playing drums but I live in a condo so no drums here, lol, Im about to turn 30 and trying to get my guitar skills better, all my guitars need an overhaul, and the only amp I have is a crate bass amp! lol, it plays well with my acoustic,, I suppose I could get a pedal for it though....

  • i like the 00-15 outta them three although the om-42 looks the best

  • yeah me too! although i am a bit bias cos i just got one!! its a lovely little guitar!

  • i just got me a seagull maritime cedar and it's a damn good acoustic

it was $489 and it was truthfully better than a lot of those super expensive gibsons (may not look as good but sounds better)

  • the om series of guitars will always have a better sound cause of its construction. the d-18 has a nice biggar and fatter sound while the om is brighter in tone

  • om 42 very nice

  • "half of what I say is meaningless..."

  • The OM-42 may sound the best, but if I had to choose, the D-18's soul has caught me. That brings the best feelings to me.

  • me too really amazing tone ^^

  • completely agree

  • The OM-42, very nice

  • really usefull video thanks :)

  • Great video for comparison. I find the d18 has the lower tones, but the OM42 has that and the brilliant treble tones. As far as balance goes the 42 is king. As far as sound goes that is REALLY a matter of personal preference.

  • I like the tone of the D - 18 Best

  • ah very nice.

    I have 00-15.

    It's pretty great.

  • i bought the 00-15 yesterday, i'm loving it

  • D-18

  • great

  • I really like the 15... anyone know if the D-15s are any good?

  • the D-15 mahogany is the best sounding guitar youll ever get for under a $1000 i have one and i love it. very easy to play, excellent tone, great quality. you wont be disappointed

  • nice julia! i heard big dif from 15 to 18, do more comparisons, thanks

  • They all sound nice.

  • d 18 for sure

  • That OM is the sound of a real guitar. Yeah, too much bling, but it has "it" in the sound dept, imo.

  • give me the tab to that song.

  • Julia, by The Beatles. pick it up by ear, listen to the accents, it's a great tune.

  • lobodormido, thanks. I really, really wanted to learn this tune. Now i can google the tabs.

  • Hal Leonard, signature licks, best of Lennon&McCartney for acoustic, by Andrew DuBrock-great lesson dvd.

  • Hey, I'm a carpenter not a lawyer!!! Gimme a break here!!!!

  • the 15 was a bit brittle, probably more suited to extended notes. I loved the sound of the 18. The 42 had too much abalone invested in it for me to take it seriously...like one of those crazily expensive 45s...sounded a bit dull to me...but that's just me. I play a Takamine, what do I know?!

  • The OM-42 really sparkles on this comparison. Great.

  • 00-15 ! ... love the sound !

    but all are beautiful

  • All 3 are beautiful. The OM-42 sounds especially beautiful to me.

  • will be calling you lefty...right said fred

  • what is taht ?

  • Um, you mean the music? That's "Julia" by John Lennon/The Beatles. Great huh? The Martins typically cost the same as a car but they're worth it I think.

  • Thank you, lefty brother.

  • 00-15 is my favorite.

  • d 18 is my fav

  • 00-15 is my favourite too, such a gorgous natural resonating sound.

  • Julia is my fav beatles song!

  • om42 very good.

  • d-18 sounds amazing in my opinion

  • Another reason why MARTINS are the BEST...wow, great sound!

  • I have played top end Martins for 2-5 thousand, and NONE compare to a mid range classical/flamenco guitar. They are decent guitars if you're willing to pay ALOT. But they are over-rated. Same goes for most steel strung guitars though; most classical/flamenco guitars have much better bass.

  • It's not fair comparing Nylon and steel string guitars. Different sound, different feel.

  • Very true. I shall rephrase, that most people who have heard a mid range classical or flamenco guitar have normally said they sound better than high end steel strung guitars. Because of the bass, sustain, playability being MUCH easier etc. I still love steel strung guitars though.

  • And what kid of mid range classical/flamenco guitars might that be if I might ask ?

  • It kinda sounds like Scientist by ColdPlay

  • its julia by the beatles.

  • I have a D15, all mahogany like the 00-15 (or is this 00 the sapele version, the striping points in that direction?). Great for Nick Drake stuff. Everytime when I take it out of its case and strike the first chord I am still pleased by the sound. For the money imo the best buy from the Martin catalog.

  • all very good but i have a soft spot for the d15

  • The 15 is a little too warm, but would be nice for certain songs. The 18 is nice, but a little too much bottom end. My vote goes to the 42. It's chimey without sounding strident. I can really hear the resonance. The 42 has the best balance top to bottom for tone.

  • That OM-42 is one beautiful sounding axe, though I'm not crazy about all the MOP.

  • actually its abalone

  • Definitely D-18.

  • D-18 rules!

  • You sure the guitar labeled as a 00-15 isn't mislabeled and should be listed as the 000-15.

I just got one for Martin's anniversary year and because the price was a bargain. Looks and sounds just like the first one played here. My D-28 and Taylor playing buddies come over and drool once they've had that sweet playing & sounding Marty in their mitts. In fact, I like it so much that I turned around and got the 12-string mate, the J12-15. Jumbo body and fabulous sound for well under $1000.

  • 00-15 , i love the old guitar sound, the OM 42 sounds just like my Takamine Dreadnaught

  • lefty power!! great to see

  • Julia!!!!!!!!! I love it

  • i say 0015 on both sound and looks

  • what about the DC-16GTE Premium...?

    someone know anything about it?XD

  • I don't know. Tie between OO15 and D18

  • I prefer D-18 too~

  • The 00-15 sounds best to me, its the one that I would buy.

  • Beautiful Beatles

  • Beautiful Julia!

  • the 00-15 is the muddiest of the three, the d-18 has a much cleaner sound with less mixing resonance, and the om-42 is a mix of the two, with less clean highs and mids then the d-18, but not as much low end reverberation as the 00-15.

I'd probably go with the d-18 just because of how clean the entire range of tone is. to me, you would have to work to produce tonal warmth and reverberation with it, but you wouldn't have to work against already having it there and not wanting it.

    great video :D

  • i got a 00-15 i love it great sound and more comfortable for me too play.

  • the D18 sounds the best to me

  • I go for D-18

  • 00-15 is by far the best.

  • i agree the 00-15 sounds much warmer.

  • I got a 18 and a 35. 35 is a lot louder with the rosewood.

  • 00-15 by far the best of the three for fingerpicking.

  • The simple 00-15 might sound as good as it does because there isn't a lot of "candy" such as plastic ornamentation hanging off the body, the sides of the neck, and the soundhole. If you think about it, only wood can resonate the same as the guitar top.

  • dont compare 0015 with d18 or om42 com on i play a d16 n i love it

  • yay another lefty

  • I love the mellowness of the all mahogany 00-15. I'm a lefty guitar player too, and I'm going to look at an 00-15 right now! =) Check out my channel to see a 100 year old parlor that I had converted to lefty.

  • First one sounded the best, probably due to the mohagany, it makes the alternating bass sound good.

  • yes it is :s
