  • wow you drew all the frames I thought you only animated the character. I have new found respect for you.

  • I love all the key poses! you are really good at animation.

  • I used animate with flash quite a bit, although I tended to have ideas quicker than I could animate so I would never finish anything, I've been getting paid to make games though recently so all that flash work paid off in the end.

  • What frame rate do you use out of interest?

  • wow ToonBoom Digital Pro very cool program

  • its flash right?

  • @StickOnLSD

    nOPE..ToonBoom.

  • How long did it take you to learn Toonboom? I've heard that it can be complicated to learn how to fully use it.

  • did you do any motion tweening or anything or did you just use camera movement and redrawing the ninja each time?

  • dude, youre awesome

  • i take it u use a graphics tablet?

  • Man you are awesome at animating, especially when you're drawing water. I especally love the Bitey series. Keep animating!

  • You have no idea how helpful it is to be able to watch your work process, i have toon boom as well, and you seem to really know your way around it, how did you learn all of this? Also how many frames per second do you usualy use?

  • m.. how much is your brash smooth?

  • @StickOnLSD I usually turn brush smoothing waaaay down while I'm drawing. then when the drawing is finished and coloured, I smoothe the finished drawing as a whole.

  • @chluaid

Hi,I am thinking of getting ToonBoom since from what u have been saying; It is way convenient than Flash and makes one's workflow faster.

When I animate,I like using very thin lines with the pencil tool (I am currently using Flash). The smallest pencil size is not thin enough so I have to export at 6000px and then resizing to 1280 px to get very thin lines.I have tried ToonBoom on a friend's CPU .the smallest pencil size is 0.1.How can I get a size thinner than that?

  • I'm still learning this whole animation thing...I know your a pro and all, but when I see material like this, I wonder how you get your frames to run so smoothly. Any tips on how to get a smooth flow?? Do I need to add more frames?

I would read your Flash manual, but sine I have TB I don't think it would be relevant.

  • @snipercheez you don't really need that many frames, your brain fills in the gaps

  • I have the program[toon boom digital pro] but I need the licence key-how do you found the key-can you tell me the code please,I don't know any more where to search this code,I search evrywere-PLEASE SEND ME A REPLY WITH LICENCE KEY.I go crazy-I found this program so hardddd and now I can't used because I don't have a "little code"-Please help me,and thanks very, very much...

  • @plugarusebyanimator1 Digital Pro didn't use a serial code. It used a hardware key (dongle) which would have been sent to you when you bought the program ;)

  • love the style. i'm saving up for toon boom studio since i'm a beginner. so excited and your animations just make me that more eager!

  • I look forwad till the movie is ready...

I Love ur style, imagination, art,... (IM NOT GAY) 100/5

  • you have the best animations in the world

  • i don't know how toon boom pro looks like

  • This is pretty cool. It's always great to see the roughs after seeing the actual animation. Makes people appreciate it more for all the hard work. And you're using ToonBoom? I just went to an animators meeting about ToonBoom last week and we got a demo of the program. I might invest in it later on.

  • oh wow, that's amazing adam

That's a heck of a lot of lines to understand... O_o

and I've always wanted wondered what exactly about toonboom that made it so much faster to animate than flash, as you said so yourself in your blogs. Any insight?

  • love your style man, awesome.

  • is this the stuff they use to make family guy

  • If you go onto the Toon Boom Website, you'll see that the creators of Family Guy use this software (not sure if it's the EXACT software, but its certainly from the same company)...

  • they probabilly used Toon Boom Digital Pro. But now Toon Boom replaced Toon Boom Digital Pro with Toon Boom Animate Pro, so they're most likely going to update to Animate Pro.

  • Wow! ^ ^ I wish I could animate as good as you Adam. Thanks for uploading!

  • What tablet did you use?

  • Intuos3 i guess, if he didn't switched to Cintiq ;)

  • yep my tablet is Intuos 3, 9x12. I don't have a Cintiq and probably could never justify the cost of buying one because I'm very comfortable with the Intuos.

  • I want all ur movies in my pants.

  • @chluaid what did you use to make all that???

  • @sddfs777 toonboom Digital Pro, which is now Animate Pro (which will soon be Animate Pro 2)

  • Dude, can you tell me what program you are using to make that?

  • toon boom digital pro

  • i want to be just like you , lol

  • I tried flash but i am not comfy with it, i like Digital pro

  • but in this vid he's working with toon boom.. it's not flash

  • freakin genious

  • nice.

I'm thinking about going to TB Animate, instead of Flash CS4. TB is MADE for animators, flash just happens to be usable by animators.

  • wow, how do u do this?

  • God you make it look so damn easy!

It looks great! Nice movement, and great detail! Bet it will be awesome, as always! XD

  • you are the master in animation 2D

  • how's the movie going? btw, great work! can't wait to see the finished product

  • I'm excited for it. i bet it's going to be a great one :)

  • Yeah, that stuff takes a while huh? I had loads of similar movies on a harddrive that got the "click of death", stopped with frame by frame animation after that :/ Still, a huge fan of your work Adam. I go by "solidblur" on NewGrounds ;)

  • Oh my God there is no way!you've returned! The king is back! This animation is so awesome by this moment that i just can not wait to see it finished! Please Adam go! Cheers and kisses :D

  • you got mad skills, chluaid

  • Can't wait! Your stuff is awesome! Bitey Rules!

  • Adam Phillips?, I have a question for you, what kind of a tablet do you use for drawing?

  • I use a Wacom Intuos3, 9x12. You can see a picture of it on the Contact page of my site.

  • This is great, can't wait until it's done. Cheers!

  • Geat ,I love this software.however this is a new version of it now called toon boom anime pro

  • @jamalanimation no I'm not using Animate Pro (the new version). Here I'm using Digital Pro (the old version)

  • Amazing, as usual. :)

  • It looks like it is really going to be good. How long did it take you to animate that small part?

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished video.

  • wooooooouuuuu

    master !!!

  • Well probably because Digital Pro offers much more than Flash does.

  • You, sir, have lots of patience.

Keep up the good work, and thanks for sharing this.

  • If only it was possible to animate this fast!

  • It's brilliant to see you working on animation, I've not actually seen a time-lapse of animation before and I actually learned from just watching that. Thanks for sharing your w.i.p. (literally)

  • You can't edit one picture, and get like a million different frames out of one, it's by far much easier to draw each frame, one at a time. However it only ever takes this much work and time to animate if you wana do it as good as adam philips. He animates a lot better than most, and that's cuz he puts time into drawing each frame. He's awesome! and should definitely keep it up!

  • why is it that you draw the ninja each time your going to move him cant you jsut copy paste him and then edit him?

  • i didn't know it was so much work for animation

  • lol if ur getting discouraged theres many other pathways for animation, not just cartoons. check out peoples after effects montages, animation can range to aything lmao im lookin to even try my hand at web design to get that extra money :D but animation is wonderful! just painstaking at times but it definately pays off! like playing a super hard game and u encounter a boss battle...hmm..and then when u beat him, compared to other games, u are really happy with yourself lol

  • So you switch from Flash CS4 to Toonboom every now and then i see. This looked kinda confusing with all the lines. I thought it would be like onion skin or if I'm wrong that isn't the sketch from the previous or next frame. Whatever your technique is it's hard to understand...well for me. But i see how it pays off in the end. How many frames was that in total?

  • that's AMAZING how much you can do in 50 minutes :O

  • audio swap some music in.

  • This is great, I'd love to see more videos like this - possibly with an audio track next time.

  • tease

  • Great to watch your work-process.

  • Great as always.

I want to know you opinion about methods of animation.Cut out animation or frame by frame which method of animation you prefer that is good for a real animator.Toon boom digital pro and and animate has got IK features.I guess it gives a smooth movement .But according to you which method works fine cut out animation or frame by frame. What do you think about ANIME STUDIO PRO?

  • I use the traditional (frame-by-frame) method but paper cutout method has its place. I haven't used IK at all yet but it's on my list. Never used Anime Studio btw, but have seen it in action and looks great. Happy with ToonBoom for the moment though.

  • Thank you very much for your kind reply sir.Wish you all the best for your future projects

  • This may sound incredibly obvious but is toonboom vector based like flash ?

  • yes. it is.

  • @AlienMonsterBot, yes ToonBoom is vector based but it can output to a range of vector and bitmap formats. All the juicy stuff like blurs, warps, masks, etc are bitmap effects, so they won't show up in a vector output (like .SWF)

  • I love your style of animation. Very unique. keep up the great work :)

  • you are so amazing. marry me you stud.

  • lol . you never stop to amaze : )

  • hey,can you please answer me one quick question:

What do you think of classic toon boom studio? I can't afford digital pro,but I still find it much better than flash. Does it lack much of effects and options in comparison with digital pro?

  • Thanks for the comments guys.

@RWAcp: ToonBoom Studio can do anything you see me doing here. It's only when you come to doing the effects (blurs, shadows, tones, highlights, warps) that you'll want an upgrade to Animate or Digital Pro.

If you have Studio though, you can always hand-draw your shadows, tones and highlights, which is what I've done here.

  • thanks! the video is great, I hope to seeing more vids like this or constructing the prison scene

btw how'd you learn toon boom? I can't find much useful tutorials on the internet

  • This looks badass!

  • 5* ur a beeeeast haha.. keep i up

    5*

  • woah O_o

  • amazing!

  • good

  • wow, thats incredible, it looks so complicated lol.

have you tried flash cs4 yet?

its soo different to flash 8 and cs3.

    i really dislike it.

can't wait to see this in ng
