Ah, Cry the Beloved Country! What happened to Nigeria? How did we squander our opportunities and who are the maggots that infested the body politik of this once promising Nation; looted our commonwealth and destroyed our collective destiny? So sad how much we lost in so short a time. Recently, I met an Indian gentleman who told me how he fought so hard to emigrate to Nigeria in the late 1970s and early 80s as an academic to teach in one of the Universities.
Ah, Cry the Beloved Country! What happened to Nigeria? How did we squander our opportunities and who are the maggots that infested the body politik of this once promising Nation; looted our commonwealth and destroyed our collective destiny? So sad how much we lost in so short a time.
Engine fatigue?? Beep beep beep super visco static. Wow reliving the good old days of my childhood. My uncle who worked at AP got us the cartoon character toys. character
oh my god, we actually sat on the floor while watching this too bcos we werent allowed to put our dirty play feet on the chair lol,,, mom's always making dinner in the kitchen which is a bit far away behind the house. i cant believe im old now and working , when did this happen???
OMG OMG the Ava Soap ad.. can't remember which show it was back in those days but I'm so so moved & my heart feels heavier now.. for all the good reasons.. OMG this is unbelievable! I think they cut it short though.. the lady slaps the man in sunglasses and he lands in the water! that's right yeah?
yes you all , they certainly are good memeries , and yes things were cheap then , but is that it , is that all you can do , would you not want to have the same old Nigeria back , o yes we can , we are te 5th biggest oil producers in the world , we get our own oil refineries and a few steps and we can make it back and better in a year , join hands and we can make Nigeria stand up on its feet again , my e mail is marqamtariq@gmail.com , come on we can do this!
I remember sitting on the carpet as a child in the living room in Enugu with the whole family glued to the telly...Great days. NTA has really come a long way.
I remember all these ads so well. They remind me of my childhood in Calabar in the 80's. Great post...I can believe how cheap things were back then and our parents still used to complain! Anyway 100 naira in the 80's was a lot of money so i guess they were right to complain!
I can't thank you enough, inollywood. This brings back so many memories. I grew up in Calabar too. I attended st Patrick's College, Calabar. Can't believe someone put these up. There's good minds in Nigeia, who could think of bringing these clips back, everyone everywhere in the world can remember where all once called home. Many thanks again, inollywood. I m going to see part2 now
There was also a time in Nigeria in which =N=5: 00 was used to fill up a 50 liter gasolene car tank in Nigeria; a brand new car was =N=4500 and with just =N25000, anyone could build and furnish a 2 storey building (including land purchase). Today, wow! in the middle of progressively deeper global debt crises (with Nigeria being a perpetual borrower), I seriously doubt if that nation can ever achieve that again ever. Constant evils and wickednesses holds sway with the masses as victims. Idiotic.
does anybody know where zebrudaya is now? its only in nigeria that we see celebrities fade away without further recognition,na wa for this our country oh
Not sure if you get sky satelite system in switzerland....but they are currently showing new (yes new!) episodes of the new masquerade on Ait international and NTA!!....Zebrudaya doesn't look much older just fatter!!
Whoever posted these, thank you very much. I remember those days - Joy vs. Lux...who was the prettier girl? I prefered the Joy girl, then they replaced her with that light-skinned girl with no charisma.
By the way, if all filling-station attendants dressed like that girl, there would be fuel scarcity everyday!
Men! I'm really getting old if I can remember all these ads. These where the good old days in naija when we felt nothing could ever go wrong.

you said it all brother. gone are the days. I remember all these ads, the mostly come between a soap opera call Beyond the cloud and chekmate. I really miss Niger o. Life is running fast. all those new ads are craps.
ha ee yaa! these were the days. I remember these adverts usually come in between the soaps on NTA. I used to laugh at that 'engine fatigue' part of visco advert and that part where the bicycle guy gets confused from the barrels in Joy soap...they later cut out the part where the lady pushes the guy in the pool in the AVA advert. Loved the part in Premier where the father shouts HA! Can anyone remember the Pears baby court advert? Used to laugh & dance when these adverts were on.
i remember super visco static!!!!! my favorite advert was the AVA commercial. my gawd, i used to sing to it. oh gawd, i feel like crying. those were the good old days mehn. i can even still remember the premier soap advert.
@jide6699 YOU WERE BORN IN 1980. SHAGARI WAS THE PRESIDENT @ THE TIME. ZIMBABWE GAINED INDEPENDENCE THI YEAR. BOB MARLEY RELEASED SURVIVAL ALBUM. KRIS OKOTIE, JIDE OBI, EMMA DORGU WERE ON TOP OF THE NIGERIA MUSICAL CHART. 4 YRS PRIOR, YOU'D MISSED THE FESTAC. AND U JUST MISSED THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION/SELECTION BY A YR. NIGERIA NEVER GOT OUT OF THE BLOW BACK OF THE ELECTION SINCE THEN. Shagari STARTED AND Babangida COMPLETED THE DESTRUCTION OF OUR BELOVED NATION. NIGERIA IS YET TO RECOVER
@jide6699 NIGERIA WAS A BEAUTIFUL NATION BEFORE THE Shagari, Babangidas' ADMINISTRATIONS. THE COMMERCIALS THAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT WERE ATTESTS TO THAT FACT. NTA IN THE 70'S IS BETTER THAN THE NTA OF TODAY. 40 YEARS LATER THINGS ARE TAKING SPIRAL DOWNTURNS. ALL THESE SO CALLED LEADERS HATE NIGERIA. BUT LOVE WHAT THEY ARE STEALING FROM NIGERIA. I LOVE NIGERIA AND I KNOW THAT U DO TOO. SO,LETS CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR MIRACLE TO HAPPEN. AND I HAVE BEEN PRAYN FOR RAWLINGS TREATMENT TO HAPPEN IN NIGERIA.
This was when Nigeria was clean. By the was, the joy soap was so HARD..! BUT THE ADVERTS WERE GREAT THEN...though some were not done in Naija. I had AVA in secondary school!
Wow; pure nostalgia; could you post more nigerian video clips and also of past music soap theme songs like mirror in the sun, behind the clouds, ripples, turning wheel and suppleblues?
hahahahaha! hope not too demanding! I'm enthralled in nostagic phenomena.
Home my home, home my home when can i see myyy home..when can i see my fathers land i will never forget my home.GOD BLESS NIGERIA,i'm looking forward to come back home one day to contribute & uplift the standard, what a sweet memory when i saw all these adverts.hoooo i missed OSHODI,AGBEDA-AKOWONJO,SURULERE,JIBOWU,ISOLO,UNDER THE BRIDGE IKEJA,BERGER,OBALENDE...
PLZ my fellow Nigerians here in U.K AND ALL OVER THE WORLD..JUST HAVE IT IN MIND "NO PLACE LIKE HOME".
I see you are like me and you love our country Nigeria dearly. I trust God that things will change some day. Lets keep working at it and believing, and all will be well!!!
awesome awesome..... I knew all the commercials.... dang.... lovely memories... thanks... oh do u have checkmate and PALACE (soap opera on your website?)
Alright! Alright!! Alright!!! I did a TV advert about 1995 I think it was for Head and Shoulders, can you please send me the video??? Pls? ANd wld also appreciate my Aquafresh (poster, Newspapers etc) ad.
See how 20 years can make a differences? Nigeria now is like a 47 year old man trap in a two month old body. Na God go punish all the bad leaders wen rule that country.
This is why youtube is the best. Goodness i can still remember watching these commercials on our black and white TV. This brings back memories of the good old days.
wot happened 2 nigeria? I miss home rili badddddd. Canada sucks and its all bull shit. All they know is drinking and clubbing and some racist bastards one have 2 deal with.
Then leave!!! your not doing them any good socome back to the country that needs your skills. Nigeria will make it back to its former glories, even better than b4. Pray u'll be part of it.
....this stuff has got "feel good" written all over it!!! it makes u forget all the nasty stuff dt has been happening in Nigeria and u just wanna take the next flight home....big long sigh...i miss home
This really made me cry...to be faraway in another man's land and missing Nigeria, its not easy oh! all those ads, i remember knowing every single word!
laughing and crying at the same time. those days we spend little to get more items.though we can't bring those old days back but lets pray for a greater time where by people can boost of feeding their family three times a day. thanks bro for bring back memories, May our Good LORD bless you and everybody that have seen and will see this video.
These brought back what i think are the best years of my life. What did i care for kobos...This is the best ever.lol, it's true o, Bagco supersack nko, and that silly Uncle Soyo.lol
This is amazing!!! brought back a lot of sweet memories. I can vaguely rem most of them but i quite rem the joy girl one in which all the men stare at her.
did you see the price on the elephant detergent?? 60kobo!!!! I say bring back those days. And my fav was the BP ad man. See me and me sis singing to it. Even now in me old age :D
what more can I say that hasnt already been said .. this is why I love YouTube ... amazing!! I love the AP commercials the most - it always came on during my fav show growing up in Nigeria - Bassey & Company ... those where the days
Bassey & Company was one of my favourites too. Do you know that Tony st Iyke is dead?. He died a very sad man. We all need to put hand together and make Naija great again. The brain drain is hurting Nigeria.
That was awesome! I remember every one of these ads. Of course, I'm kinda lucky - I go home every year (I was in Nigeria in June), and I'm flying out again on the 15th!
Excited is an understatement. There's nothing like going home.
You bring Nostalgial tears of joy onto my eyes with this VERY OLd adds, I was exactly 12 years old then and in Class 2 at C.M.S Ajayi Crowther School 2 at Bariga Akoka. I dont know how it would be like right now, but by next year 2007, I will visit Home and hope to see the best especially my first Girl friend, Titi. Like someone said, God Bless Nigeria forever Amen. Yemi in Michigan.
those adverts are just the best and boy have we got talent in that country. super visco-static is still sooo cooool. i love that country. God bless nigeria
Great collection. Zebrudaya was fabulous in the Elephant ad. Move over Borat. If he does a film like Borat, it will do great. He gives a very comic twist to the english language. And for jasonbond81. Naija is the only place for a nigerian to BE. Regardless.
Oh my GOD this is so awesome makes me want to go back to Nigeria..lol I loved that engine fatique commercial, I also never knew what was said lol now i do, And most importantly thats my Mum in the second joy girl commercial, Go mum love ya...Woo Hoo
Pls lets go home and make NIGERIA GREAT once again. This time no White man contorl and Dictation and FAVORISMs. We are TRUE African BORN NIGERIANS living in new york, alabama, michigan, texas, and other alien states here in america but we love our home and we are proud of being NIGERIANS. We shall be Great once again. Long live the FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA.
OMG!!! Memories, I've never seen d 1st joy ad(guess I wasn't born then or I never saw it) but my God,I remember the 2nd one(was in love with d girl)used to sing along(though I never got the lyrics rite.loool) along with the AP engine oil,ava soap & elephant detergent...come to think of it,our infomercials back the was a whole lot better than the ones rite now. what more can I say that hasnt already been said .. this is why I love YouTube ... amazing!! I love the AP commercials the most - it always came on during my fav show growing up in Nigeria - Bassey & Company ... those where the days
dablackjesus 5 years ago
Bassey & Company was one of my favourites too. Do you know that Tony st Iyke is dead?. He died a very sad man. We all need to put hand together and make Naija great again. The brain drain is hurting Nigeria.

That was awesome! I remember every one of these ads. Of course, I'm kinda lucky - I go home every year (I was in Nigeria in June), and I'm flying out again on the 15th!
Excited is an understatement. There's nothing like going home.
omnediavore 5 years ago
You are right. Every Nigerian should be making plans to return home. For good

Great collection. Zebrudaya was fabulous in the Elephant ad. Move over Borat. If he does a film like Borat, it will do great. He gives a very comic twist to the english language. And for jasonbond81. Naija is the only place for a nigerian to BE. Regardless.
nnaamen 5 years ago
