if you set the focus to manual instead of automatic you wont get the camera focusing on things you dont want:) search nikon d5000 timelapse ross.... i just put up a few.

@rossdabossman Thanks for the advice. I realized that after the fact. I just take it off of focusing after I find a point I want to use for the time lapse to avoid the mistake now.

If you would like some advice on your time lapses. I would use manual for your time lapses to avoid flicker. I think your videos are pretty cool.
