lmfao i found a better way to play power chords(for me), except its stressful on the pinky....i come on here and Jack White plays power chords exact same way lol, index finger and pinky.
@iHacksorzz I play the same way. I find it easier to to get a clean sound at any position, also, it helps when changing positions quickly and in rapid succession.
@DarkExecuter333 lol i thought people mostly use the index, ring and pinky finger for the 6th, 5th and 4th string. Either way i learned to do it both ways, pinky and index involves only two strings so less stressful but doesnt sound as full as the three string nirvana type.
don't get me wrong, i'm not detracting from jack white's talent. he's an incredible showman and songwriter. but guitarist? he's good but he's not the best, not even close
Oh, and I'm aware of Tera Melos. That guy is fine and dandy, but tapping isn't that difficult, if you keep up practice. Me, I learned it, then decided I didn't give a shit, because it's not impressive to me. Also, in an interview I recently read, Nick Reinheart called Kurt Cobain a major influence in his guitar playing... and EVERYBODY who plays guitar knows how easy Kurt's stuff is (but we fucking love the guy). Bottom line, being more obscure doesn't make you better, jack-off.
@teganyavo how many other guitar players have the same sound as jack white? and how many have the same sound as everyone else? think about it. the sound of this band is so original it scares me.
You've never seen him play Ball & Biscuit, and you've certainly never seen him play slide. There's a hell of a lot more to Jack White than power chords, and as a musician, I suggest you educate your fat ass before ridiculing one of the best guitarists this decade has to offer.
@mussman717word Lol dude, u mad? I'm sorry but jack white is not one of the best guitarists this decade has to offer. Educate yourself. Ball and Biscuit is a really cool song, sure, but it's not transcendent guitar work... almost every one of Dan Auerbach's licks is as funky as ball and biscuit. Since "best" is a matter of taste, I cant really pretend to satisfy that argument, but this guy was certainly more innovative in the 2000's vesCKnG2RMs .
Dan Auerbach is fucking great, but Jack does a lot more than licks. I play a lot of Dan's stuff, and if Jack's not "transcendent," neither is Auerbach. Despite that, I really dig the Black Keys. Jack didn't need a back-up band to expand the sound either, unlike them... no offense, just to pour salt in your wounds.
I love this song. I've never seen them live, but I have to say that they either are not good at all or they just don't translate well live to youtube videos. Just doesn't sound good to me.
Lets not look at the white stripes break up as a negative but a positive , lets look at it as a new beginning where we the fans rule, lets work together and produce our own white stripes songs or our own interpretations of songs, thats what jack and meg did for us, created there own interpretations of there own songs. They set a example for us of what you can do with it, now its our turn to make music.
So, "teganyavo", what in the hell do you want?...I'll suggest a jukebox for ya', you putz!! Clearly, you have no idea about inspiration and being spontaneous. If you want performances that try to totally mimic the studio recording, I feel sorry for you. This guy is CREATIVE...what part of that don't you understand?
@Matthew55322 what do I want? I want him to hit the high notes when he sings this song, because the whole heart of the song is in the vocal melody IMO. this version of the vocal melody isn't more creative... it's sterilized. and it's not spontaneous or inspired, because he sings it hte same way on every live cut I can find.
in general, i always thought there is a certain similarity between jack white and johnny depp..some johnny depp fans will might think im stone- cold crazy..but its mostly about the pale skin and the charisma...
lol best guitarist of the new century my fat ass. jack white is an incredible, incredible songwriter-- like tom petty level--but he's just playing chords. why would you say this is best of 21'st century work? Nick Reinhart is the best guitarist of the new century.
also it makes me really, really sad that he bullshits the vocals so hard in this song ON EVERY VIDEO. the vocal melody in this song was absolutely brilliant and made the song, and it's not -that- hard to sing
@teganyavo totally agree about the vocals i know he wants to keep it raw and different as he must have been playing this everynight but this song has a gr8 vocal i would be a bit dissapointed if i heard these vocals when seeing em
@teganyavo dude who he hell is nick reinhart?...and thats part of his whole performance, his voice is like the whipped cream underneath the guitar which is the candycane topping...
@AnGelBaByy100 I gotta say I agree with ya... and also with teganyavo - yeah, he's just playing chords... but so was Kurt Cobain.... and you can't say Kurt wasn't a great musician. It's about the emotion and the intensity you're playing at.... any fool with a guitar can play power chords ;)
Actually Iowa City , Ia has a hidden treasure named Michael Fett who is just as good as jack and covers this song in his own unique twist . His name is Michael Fett . Look him up !
the band wouldnt be the same without meg either, they are both good. They work well together to make good music. Being in a band aint about personal recognition and meg knows that.
@spidermonkeysoup Doesn't matter that it's easy. It matters that he wrote it. It's a unique vibe to the song that is original and creative. Ever noticed how all metal tracks sound basically the same? Or how Carlos Santana just sounds like elevator music? Sure it's hard to play, but it's forgettable, and it's not moving. Who's better at guitar, you, or Hendrix?
I don't get why people pick apart whether someone may not play a pedal correctly on a drum. That's such bullsh1t and against the whole philosophy or rock in general. These guys are artists, either you appreciate their work as a whole or you back off. I think they're awesome. Meg rocks.
@101SpottedRats i beleive that jack might play some bass on some of the recorded trackes, but yes live its only the two of them and i dont think i have seen jack play the bass live.
@almanoid13 i think she is showing jack what song they're gonna play next cuz she makes kind of a sign with her hands, why? the white stripes have no setlist
Why does he sing like that?? Huge fan of the white stripes, but that would suck if he did that when I went to a show. It doesnt sound good so how could fan boys even defend that... why not just do it naturally.
it isnt matter hard it is or not to play a song on guitar, but how does it sounds.
jack has tallent to creat melodies which are fascinating, bringing back old rock'n'roll to life. that is why everybody loves jack white and he will be famous.
after releasing this album "get behind me satan" he even made his appearance look like he was satan himself. you gotta love jack
People that say that modern music sucks are such ignorants. Stripes are pretty much as modern as most of current bands (I'm not mentioning little pop stars that came up from nowhere), and they're as good as it gets.
I thought Michael Jackson died!!!!! WTF. Just Kidding. Love This Song. I actually heard it while watching "It Might Get Loud". I did not know Jack was that awesome. Oh Yeah, Meg is kinda hot. She could play drums for me any day. I don't have a band though......
Being able to shred doesn't make you good at making music. If you do nothing but try to shred you will eventually learn to, no matter how much musical creativity you have running trough your veins. It requires no musical talent whatsoever, just quick fingers and hitting random notes.
and wow that just sounded really gay....what i mean is top hats kickass..and people who wear them kickass....fuck ok i just sounded gay...there really is no way to save myself from this one haha
@darbtheduck i completely agree with you... although i might add that Eric Johnson does both very well... Although Pink Floyd does another great job with creativity.
@Nintend0Guitarist what about eddie van halen, slash, jimmy page and all the rest of them..? i think he is an awesome musician he makes more powerfull riffs than anyone else but as a guitarist the others are way ahead
Everything they do is around Meg, so of course she is a big part of the white stripes. Jack says that the band was created around meg. Like it was said before, Jack started out a drummer.
Meg is purrrfect. anything else would be puttin' on the ritz. I'm so sick of pretentious rock drummers. As our colored cousins would say "keep it real"
Meg isn't a horrible drummer. Her sound is intentional and it is vital to the overall sound of the band. On top of everything else Jack is a drummer too if Meg sucked, she wouldn't be in the band.
@AvadaKedavraoooo obviously there's nothing to be understood in her. There's nothing deeper meaning in the fact that someone is even a bigger amateur than the worst punks. this has nothing to do with meanings.
@mculver7 Exactly - thats the same reason his guitar is a no name peice of crap sold at Montgomery Ward back in the day. It's out of tune - he could care less what strings are on it - the body is made of hollow plastic. They make it work -
nah... she is only in the band because of her connection to Jack. Pretty much any drummer can play what she does but her stripped down drums do showcase Jack who pretty much IS the band. That doesn't make her essential to the band since a novice drummer could probably take her place and the band would be exactly the same. Jack is the only essential element to the band..
@Swingfinger Isn't anyone in any band based off their connections to one another? Also, if you ever notice how they play live, it's completely unpredictable. There's no setlist and Jack does pretty much whatever he feels. Meg has this uncanny ability to know what he's thinking and go with him instantly. Jack may be the creative force, the creative genius, but do not underestimate Meg's importance.

Everything they do is around Meg, so of course she is a big part of the white stripes. Jack says that the band was created around meg. Like it was said before, Jack started out a drummer.
itsfreshson 2 years ago
@itsfreshson Dude it's only 2 persons... Jack and Meg form the band together, not all is about Meg!
TheCreativeCreators 2 years ago
@TheCreativeCreators itsfreshson is actually correct. The band was created around Meg. Jack said so in "It Might Get Loud".

Meg is purrrfect. anything else would be puttin' on the ritz. I'm so sick of pretentious rock drummers. As our colored cousins would say "keep it real"

it really should just be called The Jack White Band....Meg White is quite possibly the worst drummer alive
Pelph16 2 years ago
Meg isn't a horrible drummer. Her sound is intentional and it is vital to the overall sound of the band. On top of everything else Jack is a drummer too if Meg sucked, she wouldn't be in the band.
mculver7 2 years ago 71
@mculver7 Sorry but I have to tell you she's horrible. She' like a little kid who slugs the drums on the first time.

@BodiZoltan you obviously dont understand.
AvadaKedavraoooo 1 year ago
@AvadaKedavraoooo obviously there's nothing to be understood in her. There's nothing deeper meaning in the fact that someone is even a bigger amateur than the worst punks. this has nothing to do with meanings.
BodiZoltan 1 year ago
@BodiZoltan nah dude, you fail.
AvadaKedavraoooo 1 year ago
@BodiZoltan he really needs someone to keep him from not going insane...i think that his older, grounded, mature sister is just the right thing.

@mculver7 Actually she would still be in the band, Because it is impossible for Meg to suck.

@mculver7 Exactly - thats the same reason his guitar is a no name peice of crap sold at Montgomery Ward back in the day. It's out of tune - he could care less what strings are on it - the body is made of hollow plastic. They make it work -
krullgan 1 year ago
@mculver7
nah... she is only in the band because of her connection to Jack. Pretty much any drummer can play what she does but her stripped down drums do showcase Jack who pretty much IS the band. That doesn't make her essential to the band since a novice drummer could probably take her place and the band would be exactly the same. Jack is the only essential element to the band..
Swingfinger 1 year ago
@Swingfinger Isn't anyone in any band based off their connections to one another? Also, if you ever notice how they play live, it's completely unpredictable. There's no setlist and Jack does pretty much whatever he feels. Meg has this uncanny ability to know what he's thinking and go with him instantly. Jack may be the creative force, the creative genius, but do not underestimate Meg's importance.
