  • Paul Coia... where is he now? In the fucking grave would seem particularly suitable. Makes the case for euthanasia

  • @chubbylilloser

I thought the same.....graham took it very well too well done him such an amazing person....I hope he truly rests in peace xxx

  • Graham Chapman was awesome, RIP.

  • I still have the autograph I got from Dr. Chapman when he was doing stints on college campuses. After his show, he was relaxing in an adjacent room. He had his feet up and was drinking a bottle of Perrier. I was the only one who knew he was in there, so I entered alone. I said, "Mr. Chapman...I'm sorry, but I couldn't get away without an autograph". He threw his feet off the table and treated me most respectfully. He gave an autograph and wrote "Ni!" after it. Rest in peace, Graham!

  • I feel the way this interviewer brought up grahams alcoholism was unprofessional, in bad taste and unimportant at the time. A good interviewer will let the person tell his tale, and maybe guide him subtlety towards different parts of his life. Not blurt out "you thought the world was 3 drinks behind didn't you..you were an alcoholic"

  • If the hand of God had pointed at me and said "STOP DRINKING!!!" Wonderful Graham Chapman, able to find humor in such a serious situation. He was such a gifted performer and had such a tragic life. But, he was a wonderful person who was greatly loved by his family, the Pythons, his lover, David, his son, John, and of course his fans. :D Thank you Graham, you made things silly but not too silly. :D

  • he was my favorite python. thanks, graham

  • i love being English , rip Graham

  • first i thought the reason of his death was the alcohol. but it was the fuckin cancer

  • Graham Chapman the unlikely gay man was and still is one of the funniest persons on earth.

  • @kzbxvz you mean still one of the funniest persons IN the earth. Oh wait, he was cremated. Never mind. :) But yeah, he was hilarious, I really love him

  • @armadafanforever Hell yeah man!! Graham agree from whatever!!!

  • I just took a class where HPV is being linked to tonsular cancers and other cancers of the saliva drainage areas in young males. I immediately thought of Dr. Chapman. Because the profiteers are charging so much for inoculations, nobody wants to inoculate young boys - only females who might get cervical cancer from "sexual contact". Gay men need to address this. It might save another Graham Chapman. May he rest in peace.

  • i think he was the best actor of the monty python guys.

  • @iWillBlockYou I agree :)

  • Wow. This was 2 years before his death... Poor Gra :(

  • Proof positive that even the Greats aren't perfect, and that's fine.

  • Graham Chapman = the best...

God what a pity it is that he's gone - he was too beautiful for this world...

  • Oh Graham, how we love you! <3 <3 <3

Would it be possible for you to upload the full interview? It would be GREATLY appreciated!!! :)

  • Looks a little like Daniel Craig in this one I think.

  • @RevNTheogen hey you're right, he kinda does!

  • You are a fond memory Graham! Loved your movies!

  • and to think that 1 year later he died, i love monty python, its just not the same without him =\

  • oh how I love that man. he was so clever, witty, brave and honest! it breaks my heart that he is gone, but so thankfull that he has lived and every great thing he has done

  • Fellow python/chapman fans: Itunes has his audiobook now and its amazingly brilliant and funny and it's read by graham himself.

  • A very intelligent guy he was, and very talented. They lost a very good soul. I love watching some clips from the Monty Python series. These guys are great! R.I.P. Graham.

  • @MoveOverCasanova What a moronic thing to say. "Phoney homosexuality"? Can you image how hard it must have been for Graham to come out in 1970s Britain? You ought to be ashamed of yourself, you fucking idiot. People can't help how they feel.

  • @jonchapple

ok, i am ashamed,- i forgot what a big deal "being gay in the 70ies" is )))

  • @jonchapple Actually, he came out in 1960s Britain.

  • @MoveOverCasanova You're partly right. He wasn't *fully* gay, he was bisexual. But I highly doubt it was phoney, since he was with the same guy from 1966 until his death.

  • @lisambofoh

good comment -- i´d say he was too openminded and got worn out by his own attitude -- i mean society just doesn´t accept "declared" bisexuality, and it seems to me as that was much of chapman´s point,-->" to justify it, --- and people making a big topic of their brave sexuality are always a bit of a pain in the ass

  • God love him.

  • kiss

  • To your wife and children; it was so nice to know you. Wonderful person. Thanks for that.

  • R.I.P 1 Graham, may your comedy be missed

  • if your watching this then likely to the right is the interview of him "talking for the last time on camera"

    hes wearing the same clothes!!!!

    spooky heh?

  • Well, the interviewer was being truthful. Celebrities get away with bad habits a lot easier than normal people.

  • Does the entire vid of the interview exist somewhere?

  • ...Yeah, it would be his birthday today...

    Happy Birthday, Graham!

    We miss you all

  • Graham would be 69 today, hadn't life been so harsh and unfair.

    Happy Birthday, lovely Graham!

  • He Was a Comic Messiah.

He and Douglas are sorely missed.

  • Heartbreaking openess and vulnerablilty.

  • If you all have footage/interviews with Graham Chapman PLEASE UPLOAD THEM!!! They're so rare!

  • Yeah Spider, I agree, it can't have been easy, I think Graham seems so humble in this interview, admitting his alcoholism and just being honest about it. Graham Chapman was a brilliant funny man and it is still sad to think he is no longer with us. He is missed. I have been watching the IFC Monty Python programming all this week, it is so great to watch the films and the MPFC episodes again. Classic and pure genius.

  • Poor Graham. That looked horribly uncomfortable and the host looks like a real little shit.

  • If he'd stayed with us longer, he'd've done a lot more great work- The Python canon would've been bigger and greater. He was part of a remarkable team, all of whom did fine work in their own right. Jones and Palin appear to be extremely nice people- Possibly Idle too. Chapman was as much a gentleman as Jones and Palin are. Ah well- He's not the Messiah- He's a very naughty boy!

  • A wondeful, gorgeous man who I love dearly...probably a silly thing to say about someone who died when I was 2 & never knew but it's how I feel...

God bless you darlin' wherever you are :) x

  • Yes, of course I do...any fan of Graham would know that. But I really fail to see what that has got to do with anything...

  • And?....

  • i was just sayin that cause of the way she was speaking, remember im only a teen im used to poeple talkin on youtube with comments like "hes mine" and all that i was just pointin it out, i have absolutly nothing against gays etc!

  • its not an age thing. i've been around gay people for most of my life. just because you aren't alright with it doesn't mean other ppl are.

  • @87SaL87 have any of the others died? x i hope not

  • He was a lovely gentle bloke actually, away from the outright silliness. This interview is brilliant. RIP Graham, you were wonderfull and often too silly...

  • that was only two years before he passed away

  • what didthat guy down there say, god damn, dont rate him down, then other people cant see the comment and rip the shit out of him, wen will people learn

  • wow. they took 83% of his money in taxes. wonder what it would be today?

  • 115% I think is the going tax rate in Britain.

  • yellow beard is the best movie of all time

  • Really? You think so?

  • yes

  • Use yer Dagger Dan...lol Monty Python was Great

  • This is a fantastic video. Thank you for posting.

  • He was so handsome...so sweet...gives off the urge to hug him...i would have gave my right leg to have met him for just a few shallow minutes...

  • Im with you on that one Krystaman, I would cut off all my limbs just to touch something he has.

He was such a cute man. I love him so much.

  • Here Here....I'm in tears...

  • Once again - Im with you on that one ae, and its his birthday today!! So im trying to find the best tribute of him.

    May he rest in peace

  • You would be suprised what sort of thing I would actually do. I would do it if I HAVE to.

If you cant tell - I have NO life what so ever

  • I kinda feel sorry for you :/ But i like your accent :)

  • lol thanks.

Tis annoying after a while but still, I sometimes wish I didnt have it lol.

A New Zealand one is boring compared to others. . .

  • you would be just like the black knight! Just a flesh wound...

  • he was simply too great for this world..too special..

  • @54spiritedwill54 Amen :)

  • I love Graham, just ordered his autobiography.

It will come in a month.

    I want it now!

  • You'll love it, it's very witty.

  • I'v read it now. It is witty.

  • He looks so different here to the video interview he did when he had cancer. He was so skinney then. This just reminds us of how he was. the man is comedy legend. He is sooooooooo missed!

  • Paul Coia - the man who brought the word Floccinaucinihilipilification to daytime TV.

    Graham Chapman - genius.

  • This is nice although Paul Cola (is that his name?) is a bit smarmy, Chapman is very open and gracious. I live in Aberdeen so I wonder- why did he come up to visit Grampian studios?

  • Graham was a wonderful man. Intelligent and honest and a great, great talent. A huge loss. Love you Graham.

  • He is so alive here, so smart, so modern and so adult. I was only 8 then, I am 29 now. It's hard to believe he is dead.

  • The Coia, the Chapman! Magic.

  • I'm close to tears as i watch this, I was lucky enough to meet Graham in 1982, when I was 15. On one occasion I went to Hastings with Graham and David Sherlock in their Aston Martin 5.3.

At the time Graham was filming "Yellowbeard" in Rye, East Sussex. Marty Feldman also starred in the movie and sadly died in Mexico before the films completion.

God Bless you Graham and Marty .. RIP

  • I would like to say . . . thank you for sharing. I mean it . . .

  • u really were lucky to meet one of the greatest man that ever walked the earth. every time i wach graham's memorial service i cant help it and always dedicate a tear or two,but a good smile also. he was lucky to leave us that way. i could only wish someone to say on my funeral GOOD REDENCE,U FREE LOADING BASTARD HAHHAHA. thanks for comenting and greetings from serbia

  • @markxxxyx I'm unbelievably jealous, was he as wonderful as he seems? I love him, a incredible rare breed.

  • There's a real melancholy about him at times in this interview. Shyness is a terrible thing.

  • God bless him.

    He is missed.

  • These days you get questions like "so how awesome was it filming in so-and-so location?" or some crap about their upcoming muck. This is a REAL interview for REAL fans of the man and his work.

  • Wow, that's all I can say.

This is a bit related to the previous post but can you imagine a modern American interviewer asking a contemporary celebrity questions like this? He almost comes off as rather prying but his questions are such pertinent and insightful ones that Chapman doesn't even hesitate to answer.

  • You're right. This is one of those interviews that matter.

  • Great reminder of an era when chat shows were not controlled by "spin doctors" and media consultants. More honest and better times.

  • GRAHAM CHAPMAN... you're a genius!

    GOD BLESS YOU

  • very honest that - I did not know about his nasty habit with the swally

  • he would been now 67 if he were a live

  • What a fascinating person, I'm glad I got to see this.

Also, Life of Brian was simply trying to get across that Jesus had a wonderful message that should be followed, but that his followers throughout history kept ignoring and perverting it with wars and injustice. This is true of Christianity and every other religion. They are man made institutions that not evil, but definitely imperfect.

  • Graham Chapman was a person nobody knew except for his friends, but you watch one of his interviews and you see one of the most intelligent people ever. Yeah, this is a bit of an exaggeration, there are a lot of brilliant minds, but he has such an intelligent air to him.

  • Graham Chapman will live on forever!!!!

  • He was really too big for this world. One of the biggest persons in 20th century!!!

  • He handled that question very well indeed.. RIP Graham!!

  • Graham was great and a very goodlooking man. The world lost a jewel and it'll never come back.

  • he was simply too great for this world..

    too special..

  • He seems a rather sad man on the exterior and more sad on the interior. A great Python, sadly missed.

  • sad? hardly. optimistic and a genius? yes.

  • how strange. it looks like one of the sets for a python sketch. i'm ready for the knight to walk in and hit the presenter with a chicken.

  • LONG LIVE MONTY PYTHON

  • Message for merseygroup

As Graham Chapman would have said "Stop that it's silly"

  • Hang on isn't this god bloke the guy who created the earth in 6 day's ? Do you think for one minute if god didn't like gay people they would even exsist ?

  • i love this bloke. i think he's the most incredible person to ever live. rest in peace. i love you graham.

  • to say he died because of his sin "being gay" means to have judged a human in a rather human way. I personally leave it to the Almighty to be the judge, and oh, the great mystery knows all of our secrets. I am so happy that you religious lot have no power over us all.. I love IT as IT loves me..Graham is in a better place, folks. Bow down to you, father..

  • He also makes some interesting comments in his album - "Looks like Another Brown Trouser Job". Love Graham RIP, Thanks for posting this. Another reminder to appreciate the people we love while they are here!

  • arnisdemano is right on..Graham's Death hits new generations of fans (like myself) as if it were current because we start watching python from the beginning, get to "meaning of life" and then wonder, what's next? Only to be given the sad news that, alas, Graham Chapman died in 1989. I was five. The Oakland A's were world series champions. Grahams death makes it feel like yesterday. Stone fucking dead. Ceased to be. Cheers, mate.

  • he was a heavy smoker apparently

  • To merseygroup: I find it amusing that your name "mersey"group is so far from your apparent character. I should point out that the majority of people of his generation smoked. Although this is not a good reason to start can you really blame them? When 10 ft billboards gave ciggarettes the image of a "social" necessity. But your right. They were stupid. Should have been more like MY generation, whos life expectancy is falling..hang on..

  • great guy, saddly missed

  • I have the book, "Python's Autobiography by The Pythons," And I know for a fact he died of throat cancer. It had NOTHING to do with the fact he was gay. I don't like all this "Chapman slander" as I call it.

  • me neither. it's really disrespectful and overall not right. i mean come on, should you really be speaking ill of the dead?

  • Life of Brian does NOT mock Jesus. It's not even about Jesus, it's about a man called Brian who was born near Jesus and near the same time period. It's actually a great movie.

  • it doesn't mock Jesus, but it does mock Christianity/Jesus indirectly b/c the movie mocks the people who would believe in such a thing/person...thus their parodies thruout the movie

  • merseygroup, go to hell you sick nutcase

  • merseygroup: shame on you. I apologies on behalve o christianity.

chapman died of cancer, because of his smoking habits

  • How did this guy die???

  • Actually, reading the other comments, apparently he died from pneumonia and throat cancer.

  • As Brian said in the film - Do not judge in order not to be judged...

I do not think that anyone can smoke 250 cigarettes a day, but maybe it is mathematically possible.

  • well, i suppose if you have a constant cigarette in your mouth. cigarettes can go quickly if you really smoke the most out of them.

  • Maybe the most wise decision in his life was to deny a foul christian funeral. I'd pass for such a mock sharade...

  • @ merseygroup He didn't die of aids! He died of pneumonia and he had throat cancer. He was one of the greatest comedians to ever have lived and he his still loved today. He explained why he became an alcoholic, he was not a bad person, addiction of the extreme he was in, is probably near impossible to kick but he still did.

  • I read in another comment you made about him was about his homosexuality and I think it's sick to believe that just because he was gay, he died of Aids. And I think it's wrong to speak ill of the dead. And to say he went to hell, when all he's done is entertain people and make people laugh is a rather ignorant thing to say

  • yeah he meantioned that he was gay in Life Of Brian extras. I was like: "No way!" But i still like him and think he was a funny man.

  • Where he has been joined by Jerry Falwell and hopefully by Pat robertson :)

  • Congratulations merseygroup on the stupidest post I've ever seen on Youtube.

  • mersey group i hate you

  • 1. wrong. it was throat cancer

    2. wrong again, his liver recovered before he died, he had no permanent damage.

    3. wrong. it was a pipe

    4. wrong, he had a degree but was not a practicing physician and was actually rather selfless in the free surgeries he performed to local tunisians during the filming of 'life of brian'

5, wrong, jesus, as a character in the film is treated with respect. His followers were mocked for missing the message (hint hint)

    6. how does that mock god exactly?

  • perhaps laughing at you and at your stupid religious prejudices

  • Nice to see a film of Graham's later years when he still looks himself.

Good to see Paul Coia again too. I've met him and he was a really nice bloke.

    RIP Graham Chapman.

  • RIP my son.. I am also shy and I used the alcohol to make me more outgoing... And it got too much over a year or 2... I am have gone form 2 bottles$ of wine and 5 beers per day to 2 glasses a week... Just be who you are...

  • RIP my son.. I am also shy and I used the alcohol to make me more outgoing... And it got too much over a year or 2... I am have gone form 2 bottles$ of wine and 5 beers per day to 2 glasses a week... Just be who you are...

  • One of the funniest men ever? I think so. And also an enormously charming and unpretentious one who passed away far too soon. Great post, Michtyme.

  • yeah i found that throat clering thing very creepy because of that cancer reason

  • A genius.

  • Yeah that clearing of the throat is kind of chilling when you consider that he'd be diagnosed with throat cancer a year later. Of course it might not neccessarily be related, but still. Anyway, great find!

  • i miss him so much!!! :( i wish i had been born earlier!

  • RIP Mr Chapman - you are still sadly missed :-(

  • Even more amazing than math horse

  • If one of you fine Europeans could help out a friend from across the pond...what exactly is a D.T.?

  • D.T = Delirium tremens (alcohol withdrawal symptoms)

  • DT=Delerium Tremen (a.k.a. "the shakes") withdrawl symptom common to alcohol and some other drugs...

  • detox maybe?

  • This kind of footage is always needed in those documentaries where Chapman's alcoholism is discussed. Him actually admitting it is very rare to be seen. Whats really nice, its how apologetic to the group he sounds. I really liked this show. Thank you for showing us this video.

  • Thank you very much for this great footage, showing the most human and honest side of the great late Graham.

  • I hate that presenter. What a smarmy git, and no talent or sense to back it up. Thinking he is asking hard hitting questions. I bet he is on local radio in Manchester now. Zig Zag is where he should have stayed.

  • Cheap set too, What the hell is on the table?

  • it sad to hear him talk about his problems

  • actually i find that quite encouraging, because he was very obviously over them at the time, and quite open and calm. and his description of getting dt's in armour is actually quite hilarious. what really gives me the chills is his cough though... :-(

  • thanks a lot, michtyme3, for the upload.

more Chapman footage is what we need.

  • On Grampian? Jesus ... They'd be hard pushed to broadcast 4 min 32 sec of their own shows a week now.

  • thanks for this!
