@DenisHuaHin Hello, yes, I well remember George Brown, and his two sprinters, Nero
and Super Nero (not Nemo). Super Nero was supercharged.
George was Vincents' Test Driver, and, after Vincents so sadly closed in 1955, He had plenty of access to engines, which he put in to frames of his own design. The British motorcycle press were full of him at the time. I well remember reading at the time that one of them did a standing start quarter mile with an exit speed of over 140 mph!
@dineshverma11 Right on my friend! - will never forget my '69' Bonnie. Never a mill and headers like that- looking down over the tank at the gorgeous curve the headers make coming out from, to me anyway, the most beautiful motorcycle engine in the world.... Art
@dublin0850 definately not like a harley! which sound like a ploppy wet fart, not as 'deep' as a moto guzzi, not so much a 'rumble' as a flat 'bark' - the first time i heard one i was surprised - I was riding a darmah - cos it sounded way different to any other bike (V twin that is) - urgent!, gnarly! fucking wikked!
@treborif good to hear it dosnt sound like a harley moto guzzi would be ok maybe someday i will hear a vincent nothing much except harleys around here.
he could get a lot more with a different pipe(it looks like that one will drag) and a better riding position. My friend rides a 1972 triumph t140 on avons and he can get that thing cranked over.
Vincents handled well due to a triangulated rear subframe & using the engine as a stress-member. Yamaha adopted this principle for the Virago. Girdraulic forks (C series) in lieu of teles also helped. There's no way to build one on the cheap from bits. Best policy is buy a good one an enthusiast has kept well maintained. Beware a worn bottom end for bad vibration, which is difficult & expensive to fix without super accurate pressing of the crank or machining as one piece, which is impractical.
there is NO way in HELL a sportster could do that! this would beat the crap out of a harley from the same time period or even 2 decades later in a flatrack racke, hands down.
and onearmbiker said he'd give his right arm, the great thing is, a vincent could probably be ridden with one arm easier than any other bike... man i want to be a millionaire, i know exactly how to spend it all.
If you really want a Vincent, the cheapest way of owning one is to build one; there are still parts available being made. It was in the will of the founder of Vincent that all the parts must be available. I'm only 18, but I have decided what I'll do for my midlife crisis lol.
i already knew the parts were still available, but if it's cheaper that's what i'll want to do, because it would be brand new, plus there would be a sense of accomplishment for building something like that.
of course, there's the problem of figuring out how to do it (but i figure I'll have a decade or two before i even think about starting) for now... I'll start saving...
well I've been adding some parts up, and it's still expensive, but its around £800-£1000 per system (I.E. front brakes and front wheel: £975, fuel tank £800, owning a vincent which goes like lightning: priceless haha) I got a spare parts catalog last week, which shows all the sections in exploded diagrams and all the parts you need, and I would recommend this very much.
That was the thing about post war Vincents, they were redesigned so that ex-servicemen who had possibly lost the use of an arm could still ride one. At 120MPH if you got a Shadow...
If you think that's cool, check out Brian Chapman's 'Mighty Mouse' - a Vincent 500cc single drag bike!!! ( think Brian's retired now though). It could beat 1000cc Kwakers at Santa Pod!
Hey blondechild666 - Glad to see that you like Richard Thompson's version of '1952 Vincent Black Lightning' too! [...a girl could feel special on any such like..."] I saw him play on Oxford (UK) last week! Sadly, he didn't play the Vincent song. ;o(
I'd give my right arm to own that bike! Oh!Oh!Oh! Where did it Go! I kept my up end of the bargin! What a beauty. That aint no girl, What is his name? I am talking about the bike not the rider. If he were mine "Sociably Clussy Race team" When folks ask ,"What does that mean?" reply "Fuck You!" I bet he handles better than a rapide in the curves. That bike has such a mean nasty sexy look. I am gonna pray for one in heaven! Thank You so much for a real treat. Twilight onearmbiker
