I think first of all, while his art isn't as amazing as say one of Key's games, calling it fugly is way out of line. It's the author's vision; Have you seen Beato's troll face?
Also, lack of voice will keep you from playing a game? Dai is a genius, and the composers Dai got together made the most amazing soundtrack ever. EVER!
It's a doujin game. Ryukishi07 made this without a big company backing him. And he made it amazing!
