  • well i dont think he was biased, especially in the greco-persian wars, where (if u dont know) he was a member of the persian court and close friend of the persian king, in fact most of his witneses about the persian wars were persian soldiers.

as about the snakes, it could be any animal, its a skeleton and he thought it was a snake, that doesnt mean he didnt see it, maybe he didnt understand what was it

  • True

  • No, but he gave wait to this flying horned snakes thing, which he has chosen to include dispite the lack of evidence for it.

  • Herodotus is very biased and posibly just a liar, has anyone read the extract mentioning winged snakes near buto, he claims to have seen hundreds of dead skeletons and bones indicating there exsistance, he may be lying about it, or he may have been mistaken, his accoumts on the greco persian war are reasonably

  • @warlordexpert Everyone was biased. He was the first to attempt at an unbaised history and he created the groundings for modern history. Surely he was biased by today's standards but not by ancient standards. Also he took the gods out of the picture which was great.

  • You say that, but Thucydides is far superior at holding a strong logical narrative and maintainig historical consistancy and Thucydides did not come to fame long after Herodotus, In fact he critisiced herodotus's work for its fanciful nature and his tendancy to get side tracked.

  • This is not true... There is no evidence other than what Herodotus says. And Herodotus is not a reliable sources as he is very very biased.

  • ??? He presents the Greeks and Persians with honor and dignity in his Histories, so how so? You say there is no other evidence other than what Herodotus says, then how do you know it isn't reliable? Interesting thoughts you speak of.

  • One of the most descent videos on Sparta.

    Keep it up.

  • maybe you could give me a few pointers if you get this comment before then!! lol

  • Thats very interesting that Leonidas was a descendant of Hercules... i had no idea. Herodotus was kind of biased in some of his texts though, as I'm sure you already know. I'm actually trying to write a paper on "the Histories." Its due in three days and i can't come up with a thesis!
