Royal Marine Commando training is 32 weeks from basic to pass out. However only a few do 32 weeks, allot get "back trooped" for failing parts of the course and have to repeat so end up doing a smuch as 40 weeks till they reach required standard. The pass rate is around 30%, these guys are not reulars, they are closer to special forces, they are the shocktroops of the British military.
This is crazy. I learnt this song at school when I was 10 or so... in Barcelona and with catalan lyrics XDDDDD I still remember it... Oh Sari Mares amor meu tan llunyà, et sento en el cor ben viva. L'amor és més fort que la vida i que la mort, i es porta per sempre en el cor. Jo vull tornar a veure mon vell Transvaal, flor de ma jovenessa, on el vent perfumat dins el fullatge gemat, tot hora d'amor ens parla, on el vent perfumat dins el fullatge gemat, ens parla tot hora d'amor.

The Royal Marine Commandos adopted this as their march past becauise of its association with the Boer commandos, from whom they take their name. Christiaan de Wet et al must be spinning in their graves!
@Criticallacitirc well you can think what you want at the end of the day but you have to admit its getting to the point where you really don't know what to believe anymore and its difficult trusting anybody. How can you make sense out of this craziness
@Criticallacitirc I see a lifetime of obedience has brainwashed you. You beleive anything the media tell you. Everythign you are saying is not likely to even happen 90 percent of the time. These troops are used as profit making tools for the government and arms industry. Why don't you join them then we'll be rid of you also
"there not very nice people. If they agree to kill then that is not a good person deep down"
So you think a country and it's people's interests can be defended without killing ?
Besides, many people haven't killed anybody, but are real bastards. I'm sure you can find examples of that in plenty other places than the Armed Forces.
I was in OCS/MCDEC Quantico in 1982. Our director of PT was a Royal Marine color sergeant. A ball busting SOB, as much of a stand up individual as any of the USMC staff NCOs who trained us, and a man I would definately want alongside me in any firefight. Nothing but respect- and a lot of it- for the Royal Marines from yours truly.
The irony of this is that in many European countries this tune is the hallmark of anti-British sentiment. It is the lament of a South-African, presumably Boer, man who has had to leave his beloved wife Sarie.
@USMarineRifleman0311, how about you grow up and start showing a bit more respect towards your allies, know who your friends are because we all know the enemy
@Ysagormorful - it's not irony, it's respect for a wily foe! That's why Churchill chose the name commandos for his "hit and run" special forces in WW2. Don't forget HE was in South Africa during the Boer war.
and BTW these boys aren't "army" Don't recall the navy getting bloodied by the Boers! Ha ha
its quite ironic that this is the marching tune for the royal marines, considering that this was the marching tune for the boers back in the boer war. and they sure killed alot of englishmen.
this is not the regimental march of the royal marines. the regimental march of the royal marines is a life on the ocean wave. this is Sarie Marais 'The march past of the R.M Commando's'
royal marines never lost? how about the 7 ships they let fall into the hands of the rebel navy during the US revolution or the other 15 during the war of 1812, as well as loosing the war's main naval engagements at Erie and Plattsburg?
Ft McHenry...New Orleans? Proplatvosk? Tobruk, Dieppe, Zeebrugge raids...? ever heard of them
every one of them royal marine defeats in the annals of amphibious warfare.
@USMarineRifleman0311 to my knowledge, it was a defence force of around 100 men, facing thousands of argentines with jets and tanks.. being the commander of that unit, i wouldn't waste the life of a single man for and island full of sheep, and they didn't.. they probably knew britain would come back in force at a later date, which they did. Of course, if it was you defending that island, you would've fought till the end wouldn't you? and all of you would die? and it would be 'glorious' right?
thats weird because thats exactly what the USM battalion on Wake Island did in 1941, they killed 8 waves of japs and held back the jap navy all on their own.
Or the Marines of Hill 488 in Vietnam...9 US Marines vs an entire gook battalion.
or that time the 1st Marine Division got surrounded by 10 communist divisions at Chosin
wake island is how big? the size of an average village?
falklands are enormous.. how can 100 man know where the enemy are coming from? they can't.
they were spread ridiculously thin, any real strategist would know it was a lost cause, once the argentines had their tanks on the ground, it was over.
A battalion of US Marines stopped the advance of the Japanese navy on one island and youre talking about the Argentinians for fucks sake. They havent had combat experience in centuries.
Its been over a year since the USMs took over Sangin as well, same story there. Our strategy prevailed.
wtf has combat experience centuries ago got to do with a present day army?
tanks vs light infantry? clue up?
also your glorious marines who took over in sangin had the highest casualty rate of any US battalion in afghanistan.. within 5 months of taking over, gj there.
your strategy prevailed because you made peace with a northern helmand tribe, which essentially slowed down resistance in that area.. and i'd imagine the amount of ANA soldiers that were sent to the meat grinder wasn't recorded?
The USMs that took Sangin were all light non mechanized infantry, 3/5, 3/7 and 2/9 battalions all worked there at one time or another (never at one time) loosing 30 KIA and 80 wounded fixing the mistakes in strategy the RMCs made over the previous where they lost around 105 KIA (+5x that amount wounded)
It worked, instead of hiding behind little FOBs, USMs actually went out on long range patrols and pushed the enemy onto the offensive, that wasnt the case with RMs
@USMarineRifleman0311 you truly are a fucking idiot. go watch royal marines mission afganistand then try and chat shit, look at my other comment aswell. and if you are trying to say that we lost 105 in sangin and 5x that wounded then you need to get your facts straight. go look at the personnel that have been killed then come back.also the usmc are about 3 or 4 times bigger and have way more deaths then british forces (RIP to both)
Helmand will go down in history as a British stalemate and a USM victory, just like Bellau Wood 1918.
Nobody has criticized the conduct of the US Marines in their work, except being to agressive which we cant help. We're veterans of fucking Al Anbar, Fallujah, Tarawa, Chosin reservoir, Khe Sahn, Hue City, Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal not the fucking Falklands and Suez Canal police actions
you never send boys that surrendered to the argies to do what elite heavy infantry has to do.
you send elite heavy infantry to defend a couple of middle-of-nowhere islands with more sheep than humans?
the main british force that took back the falklands kicked the argies out in no time, name the last country USA went to war with that had decent jets + a navy, not fucking old migs flown by amateur iraqi pilots,
as usual you're just going into a third world country, kicking some arse and acting all tough about it. doesn't always work tho does it? vietnam? somalia?
Let me clear up that I dont care about the strategy of my country, the us army is a gaggle fuck. My argument was in the defence of a fighting force, not the armed forces in general.
Marines, rangers, grenadiers, we win battles not wars.
Our units are small so we only see a portion of the big picture. I think its very useless to brag about the overall performance of a nation when you come from an elite (fire brigade type unit) You can only make a difference as a Marine not win wars
@USMarineRifleman0311 And those Viet-Cong citizen soldiers handed your asses on a platter, please the US Marines are very over rated, like a empty can they make alot of noise, but don't do much.
We dont do much? We took Fallujah twice, we pacified Al Anbar and the NW Iraq(the sunny death triangle) in less than 4yrs and now we've turned our attention to Helmand.
In Fallujah we killed 1,200 insurgents while loosing 49 KIA.
All the while the british could only give up basrah and create a quagmire in helmand. We deserve every rating we get. From Chosin to Khe Sahn to Fallujah.
@USMarineRifleman0311 You took Fallujah twice!!! That is one time too many. And what is with the body count haven't you guy learned from Vietnam? that you guys killed 2.5 time more of the Vietnam population in that war, if that happen why is there people in Vietnam, they should all be dead. Fallujah was probley 55 insurgents to your 49KIA, Can a US Marine even count?? Haha just joking around no hard feelings.
@USMarineRifleman0311 - remember 41 independent cdo RM helped you boys get out at Chosin- they were awarded a Presidential Unit Citation (same as the 1st Marine Div) You've heard of Force Dysdale?
@USMarineRifleman0311 you are really pissing me off, its either you or somebody with the same name but different number. you call your self usmcrifleman but your probably just some fat kid thinking he is. the us marines hate cunts like you and respect the royal marines and have mentioned how they are among the best in the world so fuck off you keyboard warrior

The Royal Marines were born by copying the soldiers of the sea in Venice ...Why do not you write to wikipedia??????
You have also copied the motto!......
You should make more honor to the "soldiers of the sea of Venice ".... but you do not even name them!!
You English and your American friends do not deserve the name of "FANTI DEL MAR" !
